This also includes people like Misato, Ritsuko and Nerv soldiers and scientists, who were reverted and complemented as well. Dr. Akagi may even finally make up for Gendo :) He repents all the wrongs he's done, after all.

And even most of the main protagonists, although they've suffered greatly during the finale in one way or another, are pretty much alive at the end of the day. The Instrumentality also reverted people who died just before it commenced, and they too are being revived due to Shinji reversing the process. This is demonstrated by the fact that Asuka (who was gruesomly murdered by MP Evas just before the Third Impact) is brought back together with Shinji in the final scene.

Furthermore, after this whole ordeal with Instrumentality, Shinji was finally able to make peace with himself and realize that he isn't totally worthless and actually can continue living in this world. He actually starts to recover from this emotional trauma he has suffered during the later episodes' events. Heck, even Gendo finally realizes that he was wrong trying to destroy the world just to meet his wife again and totally neglecting his son (which he admits when being reverted into LCL).

BTW, I can't agree with the notion that many people have that EoE doesn't have a "happy ending". I mean, sure, terrible things happened before and near the climax. Nerv getting attacked, many characters die or suffer horribly and all life on Earth is killed due to the actions of Seele, Gendo and (rather involuntary) Shinji. But in the end the Instrumentality was reversed by Shinji before it could be completed, and everyone killed by the Third Impact revives, which starts in the last scene.

IMHO the TV ending is also great in terms of character exposition. EoE is strong in terms of story and is nice ending to NGE.

EoE concluded the whole storyline around the Third Impact, Human Instrumentality Project, Nerv and Seele, what actually actually happened? with the characters, etc. It's essentially the supplemented final espisodes (the movies' parts are even called 25' and 26') of the show, not really an alternate ending.

The movie actually DID make up for this in terms of ending the series, because it had actual plot, unlike the TV episodes 25 and 26 that were basically psychological analysis of the series protagonists (mainly Shinji) without any firm connection? to the actual actual story structure and plot events ofthe series.

xD, Shinji's reaction is priceless. I actually enjoyed the ending, and am now off to watch the film, to see if they DID improve the ending. A funny thing is, when Shinji says they ran out of ink, it's true. I think Gainax was going through financial problems starting around episode 16, or something, and that's the reason for the ending. xD

Ok, I totally get the complaints about the TV ending, because it was objectively pretty horrible. But I always thought EoE made absolute perfect sense... sure it was depressing as fuck, but it tied up pretty much every single loose end, both psychologically and plotwise. Like someone else said, you just have to pay attention during the "mindfuck" sequences. It's not that hard. The only question it doesn't answer is "What now?" which is very deliberate.

@jdthunder - I agree, mostly - we still don't know much about Kaworu's past, why he's Adam's soul in a 15 year-old body, and the only hint as to why is that he was born on Second Impact, among other things I can't really think of right now. I understand that Anno is leaving things unresolved purposely, so that we can interpret Eva in our own way, based on hints given throughout the series, and I respect that - but some definitive answers would be nice...

heres my opinion, if anyone cares. last 2 episodes of of evangelion, complete waste of time. they made no fucking sense. first half of end of evangelion was cool and kinda made sense, last half, total mind fuck leaving everyone completely clueless. the rebuild better learn how to end it right or imma be pissed

Am I the only one who wasn't left asking WTF after the end of evangellion movie? It was pretty easy to understand. You just had to listen to what they were saying in the mind fuck. It revealed A LOT of plot in it. Plus it was a really deep series, I understand how most people would be confused about the ending though. You kind of have to try looking at it through a different view point. Plus reading the manga helps too.
