  • Okay, just putting this out there. It doesn't say she killed herself by slitting her wrists, does it? She could have still died from AIDs, and have just done that to cope with the pain, like people tend to do in our society today.

If I'm wrong, tell me. We did this musical at our school and we're discussing this as well.

  • I saw the musical the other night, and here's the real story:

Roger's girlfriend slit her wrists and locked herself in the bathroom after she read the doctors reports saying she was AIDS positive. Roger found out he had AIDS when he found her alongside the report.

The live version is very good, I suggest seeing it. It was, in my opinion, a lot better than the movie. Theres more songs, and its funnier.

  • omg rogers my nu celeb crush

  • okay people, watch the live from broadway version and you'll see the line where they TELL (not show, tell) you that she slit her wrists in the bathroom. she did NOT die of AIDs!!! sheesh!!

  • ok, I don't know much about RENT, but i love the music. But I'm wondering, is this a musical where the set does not change every scene?

  • not really

  • Uh... The stage is set up at the beginning: There's a table, which is used as both a prop for la vie boheme and as the center piece of the flat. There's a balcony on the back wall, used for most of the Mimi stuff. Behind the balcony is a screen, which the project movie clips toward the end. There are balconies on either side. There'll be quick set changes in between a few scenes, but nothing too major.

  • she killed herself o.o

  • yeah, I thought it was strange that the movie took out any mention of April killing herself, it made it seem like she died of AIDS.

  • in the original, she died from killing herself?

  • thanks!

  • does anyone knoe what the song from rent is called when its like "225 600 minutes how do you measure the days in a year" or something like tht

  • That would be Seasons of Love

  • thanks!

  • seasons of love :D

  • seasons of love!!!

  • actualy, heres me nerding out here:

Jonathan Larson the composer of rent, based rent on Puccini's 'La Bohème'what is about poor and hungery artists in East Vilage, New York, who are living with 'TB,' this was interpreted by Larson as AIDS in the modern world. In the play Rogers ex dies from cutting herself, BECAUSE she has AIDs and thats what the wohle play is about, living with AIDS! Take this song, about trying to write a song, a classic song, before AIDs takes control of him.

  • Hey, you didn't 'nerd' me out. I'm impressed you know all that. Very interesting. :)

  • This song is all about living with AIDS. Its about how emotions and how humans dont own emotions but rent them, Hence the title of the movie and play. Yes, it has the aspects of living with AIDS as a musician and finding love gay or not. just so you know..:)

  • "his girlfriend april left a note, saying she got aids, before SLITTING HER WRISTS IN THE BATHROOM"

she killed herself because she had aids

  • Ya, actually, even if you look at documentry on rent, included with the movie, in the movie they just made it look like she died of aids because there wasn't enough time in the song to put the clip in. plus, if they had put it in, it would make the movie ratings go to an 18, instead of a pg 13, & they felt that this movie should be shown to a younger audience as well. =)

  • helllooo she died of aids not cutting! doi!

  • NO CUTTING I SAW THE PLAY

  • oh well I hadn't seen the play yet but now I have, sorry, your right. cutting. sad. great play. no need to be mean, i'm only 12 by the way. I m a real rent fan but I hadn't realy had a chance to see it :(

  • actually, if you've seen the BROADWAY musical like all REAL Rent fans, you would know she died from slitting her wrists. DUH

  • yep she is right i saw it on broadway and dont make me sent the claymets after you

    Purpleraven02

  • That's weird that it was too graphic because I have seen dozens of people in movies and tv that slit their wrist. It could have been that showing her death would not add to the story throughline because death at the beginning is too much of a bummer

  • I luv this song. I feel so bad for roger

  • either roger passed it to her by ummm making babies or herion

  • HE'S SO HOTTTT!

  • AAAADAAAAM!! shutup your too hot! AHHH! i cant take it! my eyes burn! its like looking at the sun!

  • Ummm she commited suicide thats how she died but it doesnt say that in the movie well thats what my friend said anyway =/

  • they got aids from using heroin you find out in light my candle

  • roger got aids from his girlfriend who died

  • well i suppose that you could get that impression from the song but all that light my candle really confirms is that roger used to do drugs

  • Does any one know where I can get Seasons of love with an Organ instead of piano...? I love the guitar thing at the beinging...this is so sad... did April and Roger pass to eachother, or get it from something else?

  • absolutly brilliant. just awesome. too good for words!!!!! been there seen it would see it a hundred times over.

  • This is my favorite song. Favorite song from Rent, favorite song from a musical, favorite song that I've ever listened to. :) Thanks much for posting the clip.

  • This is my fav. song from RENT!!!

  • Sliting your wrists means cutting your wrists till you bleed. The song's proper name is ONE SONG GLORY if you must know by the way. I'm one of THE biggest RENTheads out there.

  • I saw this play w/declan Bennett as roger and Harley Jay as Mark.. Marks eyes were very pretty LOL

  • what does slitting her wrist mean?

  • I love this song.

  • From the play : (mark) I don't suppose you'd like to see Maureens show on the lot or come to dinner. (Roger)*strumming his guitar* Zoom in on my empty wallet. (Mark)tu che *sung* Close on roger. His girlfriends April left a note saying 'We've got AIDS' before slitting her wrist in the bathroom.

  • Such an awesome, sad, melancholy song.

  • the song is also about how Roger wants to write one song to be remembered by before he dies. he wants to leave some sort of a legacy and he cannot find his one song glory.

  • yea the name of this song is "One Song Glory" and according to the broadway musical april commits suicide after she finds out both her and roger have aids, she writes him a note saying they have aids then she slits her wrists in the bathroom,

  • yeah I read about that.

  • The movie makes it a little unclear, but I wanted to say that Roger's girlfriend, April, committed suicide by slitting her wrists. Although she had AIDS, she did not die from it.

  • Yeah, in a bathtub. But it was too graphic for the movie or the play. :\

  • So how do you know about it?

  • actually they shot it to be in the movie but they couldn't fit it in!! it is called comintary!!
