if u have family that live in the city or suburbs and u live in the country or just not near a city it is good to talk with ur family and show them side roads country roads to get out of city and to u were it may be safer
Storms and bush fires rain havoc in my region. Being prepared is essential and easier then most think.
When i lived in far north Queensland I had an emergency cyclone kit ready to go all the time.
I've kept that habit when i moved down south. Having had to fight fires close to my town and being cut of with flood waters, i've become an advocate for preparedness.
I live in Florida . This is a everyday type thing for me . I've seen lots of hurricanes and millions of power outages! We have non perishables and canned food in coolers ( which aren't cooled) just for storage and there easy to move. We have a generator and a mini grill / stove for travel or cooking. A small solar panel to pack n carry. Lots of different utility knives. A few guns. My favorite item is my collapsible water containers. You fill them up and go. No water to store. So,
For the past 20 years or so, I have been packing together into backpacks items that are useful and giving them away. As I have gone through the years, I have realized that every person in your household should have an emergency backpack. One that is size appropriate, and fits comfortably. Also, layers of clothing and hiking boots. One kit each. Easily accessible Now I'm thinking it is a good idea to have drills in communities where friends and families make plans and meet up in designated areas.
Simon Templer? Really? Am I the only one to notice the name? lol. During the Great Depression it was called not being wasteful. Today we call it prepping, surviving and other names. I've always tried to keep things stocked up. Hated running out of something while cooking. I hope others wise up to this.
You dont have to have a room dedicated to this as i do, just a few cans here and there, water, and some first aid. you should be able to live well for a week, or 21 days sparely.
its a real threat ppl, get prepared in case their is a economic collapse or if there is a solar flare that wipes out all electronics on earth. You never know what could happen and it doesn't hurt to be prepared for any scenario
this is a hard one i mean you can have your all you need in your house/flat etc.
what happens if its a earthquake or flood and what do you do if you have nowhere to BugOut too. all a can say is think of your highest fear and go with that
if you try to think of all the disasters that can happen you will be over whelmed plus mess your head up.if you think it will be a pandemic then prepare fot that then move to the next one on your list
@lexilaad Just my opinion but I dont think most of these people are paranoid. Our govt. even builds survival shelters on a much larger scalre. Its more about being prepared than paranoid. I store also but its just because I dont believe that the economy will survive. I dont believe (unlike much of my country) in the govt giving me everything and depending on them for food, money, housing. It sickens me how many people do that here but our govt now is VERY close to financial collapse.
What I worry is if I stock up in supplies and ammo, got hit by an earthquake, and the house catches fire whether I can get out and not stuck under a ton of bean cans...
I'm a survivalist in the sense I bury everything in tactical locations around the yard. The good thing about living in a wooded lot is the lack of snooping neighbors when you dig a pit.
Excellent vid. I have been doing this for the last 10 years. I have been IN 13 hurricanes including hurricane Rita and Ike. I made both fairly comfortable and ate well with what I had prepared. It is not a want anymore ....its become a necessity. Charles
Finally ppl who think im not a crazy bastard who prepare for the worst but hope for the best! ppl who have stop sitting on their butts and decided to get rdy but still be a functional member of society till shit hits the fan!
here's a thought.. what if u lost your job (or are underemployed!) and wound up on the streets. homeless for a few months. it happened to me in 2007-8 it would really help to have a go bag in that scenario. a bag full of food rations, frst aid kit, and hygiene stuff, so u can look normal while you look for a new job. or if u r working so u can look clean cut, so they wont start asking questions and fire u over ur situation. that shit happens!
Heres what i base my preparedness on: what if i wake up tomorrow, and the phone lines are down, the stores are empty, the water's not running, and there are rioters?
If you live in the city, you don't have a chance. The gangs will take your food. Or when you run out of food, you will starve. There is no place in the cities to grow crops. Only people in the country stand a chance. Please give this some thought.
I am afraid you are right, especially in a really bad situation. Anyone who has seen what happens to a grocery just before a hurricane or a blizzard will understand. Millions will die within months to a year if our system of food delivery is interupted long term.
@joesphx19 Another thing. Most people would never see a fema camp. When people begin to riot they will shoot you down in the streets. Those fema camps are for the few necessary grunts to do the dirty work. Why would the government round everyone up and then have to feed and clothe them? Ain't gonna happen.
@TheSmackfan101 Yeah, the criminals are going to need those after they kill you and take all your stuff to find their way around in the dark, because one way to control a curfew is to cut power distribution.
Damn Strauss! If you aren't an ex-Marine... an ex-Marine like myself is gonna help himself to all your shit when he needs it. Especially those chickens. I love chicken.
That very last screen roll says it all "It's best to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it"...'nough said. I've prepared my family...and if you haven't...don't come knocking on my door. I used to think survivalists were loons...but it's a changing world and our government has repeatedly proven that they just can't handle major catastrophies. I agree with bwarrior...if you haven't prepared...it's your tough luck...period!
and your friends and loved ones that scoffed at you? I'm thinking about packing away food and clothes for my buddy, even though he's got his head burried in the sand, i'd rather say i told you so than see the guy die
@dirtTdude: My brother is the exact same way. I have mentioned this to him and he just give that "yeah yeah" response. I have enough for my family...but I have started looking into additional supplies for others...like my brother. You can always use extra food to barter with IF it comes to that. You can only do so much...right?
Join your local CERT Team! (Community Emergency Response Team) You get free training, equipment & in the field experience! After completing the CERT course you will be light years ahead of everyone! Even this guy in the video!!!

Get some propane tanks from Home Depot and fill them up as propane will triple in price within the next 1 1/2 years according to economists. .I have a 3 burner propane cooker which will come in handy if needed. Kerosene and a kerosene heater would be a great idea to have in your system.
When a survivalist store owner starts talking about some of her customers are Wall-Street investors and Executives that is when you know the economy is bad or getting worse...
It's not one or the other. Community is vital; it takes some very rare and stern stuff to survive alone. With community things are far, far easier.
However, community doesn't mean one person prepares for 3 weeks/months/years of self sufficiency, and when things go wrong the neighbours who ignored the warnings come around and go through those supplies in 3 days.
Community is a two way thing - letting others prepare and expecting them to bail you out isn't community. ("You" = generic)
13. Right , but i think the point of community is still missed with hoarding . In a SHTF situation folks Will come knocking. Being vainglorious with ones own stash is as bad as being unprepared IMO. Just another sign of our broken $ based culture to think "i am a rock" . One is only as "self sufficient" as they are allowed to be by those around them.
Community, is helping eachother; distinct from being unprepared and going scrounging from others.
Community is being ready when the time comes, helping those who's preparations haven't worked, who've run out or whatever; and importantly, helping those who COULDN'T prepare (elderly/disabled) - my "step 1" every time "the zombies come" is to check on my elderly neighbours.
The "don't come knocking" part as I understood, is if you don't have the foresight to prepare it is your problem.
@NWforager Hell no its not. Those people who stand around laughing at you and saying your crazy for getting prepared "for something that will never happen" . Those are the people who want to come knocking on your door asking for a hand out or help. Hell no. I would gladely help my neighbor in a time of need. Not in a major crisis though. Im concerned with me and my family. Thats why I prepared. Your tough luck if you didnt.
I loved watching the idiot @ 2:13 I bet his ass is out of work today. He will be one of the first fools to die if the SHTF

Don't use thin juice/milk jugs for water storage. They leak eventually if left in a crawl space like mine. I use the heavier plastic juice jugs.

Now I can show this to people who need a quick introduction to why people are survivalists in the first place.
