when we speak of punchlines, puns, metaphors and similes, we must consider the impact the inner city had in making our music our own....Curtis melded a groovy beat (lol) with a conscious flow that affects us while we let our bodies loose and this enlightening spirit in....the fact is....I cant but help see Kanye West In this man...I just cant help but see this flow, so simple, yet profoundly influential (also, by a certain standard...those two cant sing....how interesting....?....nope)
nothing against curtis i love his music but im personally not really a fan of his live performances in the 80s, with all cheesy 80s keyboards and the groove isnt as tight as his stuff in the 70s. like the old grey whistle test

I miss this type of Music, this is back when artist cared about music, now all they care about is the money and the fame. The artist of today would rather sit around and be "puppets" as opposed to recording or preforming a tune that is innovative and talks about changing the world for the better. They would rather record shake your ass music that does nothing but continue to bring down our communites. SHM, when are these new artist going to learn they are being used and not for good either.
man i'm 43 and my dad had the superfly album back in the day. man thats the difference between people our age 38 & older,we grew up on music like this through our parents & when my era hit in the 80's loved it up until the mid to late 90's then music turned to shit.these kids todays have no concept about music like this or the 80's. their so caught up in the thug life & gangster shit. how in the hell can u not love any of curtis mayfield's music?the future of music is fucked starting now
@queenbeethatsme9 oops I meant to type " I loved and I lost" 'I loved and I lost, it happens to the best--yeah, I loved and I lost and I might as well confess'
saw him live at town and country club , never to return. he was awesome that place was packed out full of love except for my ex missus. a truly wonderful lovely man , sang and played sweetly. next night same place gill scott heron what a weekend in cold breezy autumn london town . love and peace
curtis mayfield rip the ultimate!! i have the cd of the ronnie scott's concert this clip came from. gonna shoot for the dvd next time. if it's still available.
On December 24,2006 at 8 o'clock in the morning, a young 14 year old boy by the name of Scott Jackson was found dead.Doctors couldn't come up with the cause of his death. His mother checked his emails to see if she could figure out what happened.Turns out he was still signed into myspace. She found he had gone to sleep after he read and didn't repost a chain letter.if you don't repost this to 6 videos a girl with no face will kill you tonight. Sorry, don't wanna die.

just like dat!...what a shame, it's such an exquisite piece of music!!...can anyone help out??... I would be truly grateful...and sho nuff not only me!..
I discovered Curtis Mayfield while I was working at a local record store just before he died. I was soaking up as much old school funk and soul as I could. When I listened to the Superfly soundtrack it was awesome! What an amazing feeling to find music made before I was born that speaks to me like that.
right on, welcome to world of real muzik and its so much out there, type in 19urban72 you will see what i mean this person channel exploits all the lost great artist and songs, peace mayne
@tomahawk420 --so really, you just discovered him--he's been around since the 1950s--where were you before then? Busy being white? (sorry--I could not resist that)
@CoreDesignerAZ YOU should actually find out what the term racist means. The fact is, whites routinely ignored or berated black artists until the mid 1990s, after that --the younger gen and some older finally admitted to appreciating the music--the loss in revenue and validation to those artists can never be repaid--Mayfield is dead as are many black artists who finally are getting their due--or at least the record co are getting it for them. Bittersweet--that's all.
@CoreDesignerAZ ..and you do not have to "give blacks Curtis Mayfield" he is ours from the git go--for blacks --music is an EXPERIENCE and all the music,instruments/copying, appreciation in the world cannot define or create what black music signifies or how it identifies with the black experience. In other words--music is more than sound it is a mnemonic device--but you can't GET to that if you never been there in the first place. So yeah---CM is OURS and he is not something YOU can give to us
And let's not forget, the soundtrack Short Eyes, where he wrote the songs from the perspective of penitentiary inmate! So excellent, I can't promote it adequately! Check 4 it!!
Curtis Mayfeild wrote the soundtrack for the movie "Superfly", He wrote he music not to glorify the drug culture, but to give you a lesson in its destruction of a people....Peace
no its about children that grow up in the ghetto, he "never smiles" cus he is in the ghetto. he is sad and mad because he is in the ghetto. "when he was a nothing child" = before he was born and so they should have "let him be"
Bass player is awesome. The whole band is great.

Curtis shall always remain as one of the best black artists ever for various reasons:
1. Owned all his recordings unlike many black artists of that time.
2. Was at the forefront of civil rights movement helping black people.
3. Preached peace and love between black and white even after his own poverty, deprived upbringing.
4. Produced, wrote, performed music and vocals of all his music.
An unbelievable phenomenon. Thank you God for allowing me to see him twice in London live. wow.
RIP.
