  • Bass player is awesome. The whole band is great.

  • Mas bass line! So powerful...

Lady Gaga and other justin timberlake / bieber can go hide themselves now.

    What, EMI say they can't?

  • This has just as much meaning today as ever. Long live Curtis and love.

  • I thought that the applauds at the end were rather timid.

  • when we speak of punchlines, puns, metaphors and similes, we must consider the impact the inner city had in making our music our own....Curtis melded a groovy beat (lol) with a conscious flow that affects us while we let our bodies loose and this enlightening spirit in....the fact is....I cant but help see Kanye West In this man...I just cant help but see this flow, so simple, yet profoundly influential (also, by a certain standard...those two cant sing....how interesting....?....nope)

  • @JelaniWAZO, do you have to write so much...ugh...

  • AS FAR AS MUSIC IS CONCERNED,I BELIEVE AMER ICA HAS SEEN ITS BEST DAYS!

  • @bobbyaustin1

Musically, culturally, economically, spiritually and every other way. We're in serious decline and it's only going to get worse, I'm afraid.

If music is any indication, then just two words-Lady GAGA! Nuff' said!

    Lord help us!

  • @n8tureboy well said!

  • nothing against curtis i love his music but im personally not really a fan of his live performances in the 80s, with all cheesy 80s keyboards and the groove isnt as tight as his stuff in the 70s. like the old grey whistle test

  • I like this even better than the studio version. . .that guy on the bongos is amazing.

  • hot shit

  • What happened to music again?!

  • @macboogaluejames It still exists? :)

  • Healing music. Memories of how I felt during that time in my life come back to me and heal my soul.

  • PURE GENIUS!!!!

  • Love our Curtis.

    Amazing.

  • It's like Marvin, Donnie, Luther, the Ladies of this Industry from the very beginning down through the years to date: You get this 'thing inside' as you listen and even moreso as you sit and view available videos of thes very Wise INDIVIDUALS [operatives Wise-INDIVIDUALS]. Low Profiles in life kept for a reason which is another story. It's pretty much necessary in Society/Generation as down through HIS-Story. These Guys and so many more are Loved Even though we are unable to be around them.

  • This is music people. I hope Kanye is listening so he can change his ways.

  • @LeBigMoneyShow I'm sure he is considering this is the song he sampled for "Flashing Lights"

  • support our youth today. we don't need no "nothing child"little child"

    "runnin wild"!

    love

  • Peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I miss this type of Music, this is back when artist cared about music, now all they care about is the money and the fame. The artist of today would rather sit around and be "puppets" as opposed to recording or preforming a tune that is innovative and talks about changing the world for the better. They would rather record shake your ass music that does nothing but continue to bring down our communites. SHM, when are these new artist going to learn they are being used and not for good either.

  • man i'm 43 and my dad had the superfly album back in the day. man thats the difference between people our age 38 & older,we grew up on music like this through our parents & when my era hit in the 80's loved it up until the mid to late 90's then music turned to shit.these kids todays have no concept about music like this or the 80's. their so caught up in the thug life & gangster shit. how in the hell can u not love any of curtis mayfield's music?the future of music is fucked starting now

  • This man went through every fuckin thing Paralyzation, Amputation, still he sang his spirit is amazing I would have quit a while ago

  • all time favorite curtis mayfield

  • I discovered Curtis Mayfield while I was working at a local record store just before he died. I was soaking up as much old school funk and soul as I could. When I listened to the Superfly soundtrack it was awesome! What an amazing feeling to find music made before I was born that speaks to me like that.

  • right on, welcome to world of real muzik and its so much out there, type in 19urban72 you will see what i mean this person channel exploits all the lost great artist and songs, peace mayne

  • @tomahawk420 --so really, you just discovered him--he's been around since the 1950s--where were you before then? Busy being white? (sorry--I could not resist that)

  • Comment removed

  • @CoreDesignerAZ YOU should actually find out what the term racist means. The fact is, whites routinely ignored or berated black artists until the mid 1990s, after that --the younger gen and some older finally admitted to appreciating the music--the loss in revenue and validation to those artists can never be repaid--Mayfield is dead as are many black artists who finally are getting their due--or at least the record co are getting it for them. Bittersweet--that's all.

  • @CoreDesignerAZ ..and you do not have to "give blacks Curtis Mayfield" he is ours from the git go--for blacks --music is an EXPERIENCE and all the music,instruments/copying, appreciation in the world cannot define or create what black music signifies or how it identifies with the black experience. In other words--music is more than sound it is a mnemonic device--but you can't GET to that if you never been there in the first place. So yeah---CM is OURS and he is not something YOU can give to us

  • @tomahawk420 hell yeah!

  • that has to be chubs from happy gilmore playing bass

  • i now know where hendrix got "machine gun"...

  • ja si tenes razon!! (agree with you)

  • curtis wrote music to reflect the times,...civil rights(keep on pushing).inner city crisis(superfly).great songwriter who songs was real classics.

  • And let's not forget, the soundtrack Short Eyes, where he wrote the songs from the perspective of penitentiary inmate! So excellent, I can't promote it adequately! Check 4 it!!

  • "Where is the Mayor who Makes all things Fair?....He lives outside..Our Polluted Air.

  • understanding of love and culture

  • all those of you who didnt grow up in the seventies missed the influence of many super stars unlucky

  • Curtis Mayfeild wrote the soundtrack for the movie "Superfly", He wrote he music not to glorify the drug culture, but to give you a lesson in its destruction of a people....Peace

  • Thank you for this posting!!!

  • Great live version of this.

  • Charismatic, composed funky black man! I love old time black musicians.

  • This was sampled in Kanye West's "Flashing Lights," but they sound nothing alike!

  • Yea they do, the guitar solo, i couldnt hear it at first, but it does.

  • Also sampled by 2Pac "Ballad Of A Dead Soulja"

  • because my dear Mr. west is a genius

  • Perfect Music

  • "The Great Philosipher" Curtis Mayfield.

  • Somebody please invent a time machine so we can go back and enjoy artists like the Impressions and Curtis Mayfield again. Thank you for this post.

  • @galaxyworldwide877 true that! i would also use the time machine to go back to save curtis from being paralyzed from stage lighting equipment.

  • @galaxyworldwide877 YES, I would come with you !!!!

  • is this about heroin?

its like he sings about me

  • no its about children that grow up in the ghetto, he "never smiles" cus he is in the ghetto. he is sad and mad because he is in the ghetto. "when he was a nothing child" = before he was born and so they should have "let him be"

  • Partly! Just one of many examples that the song convey about life in the ghetto, especially in the late 60s and early 70s.
