  • I was in my late teens and did not get into Nirvana until a few years after their break through because I was FED UP with this song playing on the radio over and over and over and over again. I think Kurt would agree.

  • Gear is so fucking expensive these days it sux :(

  • Something in the Way is my absolute favorite Nirvana song...and someone did tell me he lived under a bridge once. Whatever man. That was the song that made me realize Kurt is actually a really good singer. Forgive me, but I used to think he just kind of yelled everything.

No worries, I know better now. ;]

  • That guys an idiot, when kurts mom kicked kurt out of the house when he was 18 he ACTUALLY did sleep under that bridge

  • @PBANDSNOW there are a lot of contradictions about that... i do know that that's charles cross and he wrote a very convincing novel about kurt... however, it's pro courtney love and very voyeur and he takes great liberty coming to conclusions about things he couldn't possibly know... i really don't like him as much as i dislike courtney love

  • why destroy their gear when they could've donated it to the poor (me) XD

  • The story surrounding "Something in the Way" is one of the most chilling & profound moments in rock...

  • @mitchroushart and whats thats story?

  • I'd give my right arm just to go to 1 show

  • isaw one vid where kurt hurled his guitR LIKE a javelin right into an amp

  • ugley betty 2:56)

  • @blindandbailing He already did change the world with his music.

  • @Vanjal no, you would kill yourself if you had a horribe taste in music like nirvanaispus, had vaginadick and always has dicks in his mouth...... oh you do? oh ok. well then jump into a tub of water full of piranhas and a toaster.

  • i know this is completley random. but the Producer reminds me of Tony Prince from GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony.

ANYWAY, so i dont get hate comments replying back telling me the dont give a fuck. Something in the Way, is one of the best songs ever made. there's so much meaning and emotion there. if there was a picture to go along with this song. it would be that soggy looking bridge in the cloudy town of aberdeen. it's really fucking beautiful. words couldnt describe it.

  • wow, this is awesome...the "something in the way" portion is crazy, n great....so smart...almost a whisper, n i love the live electric version of "something in the way" he gets loud when its live, dats 1 of my favorite live nirvana songs when on electric

  • Cross, Shut up. Everett True kicked your ass.

  • For Fuck's sake- why does youtube keep putting fucking Pearl jam adverts on the video? kurt hated pearl jam, even if he was friends with Eddie Vedder :@

  • He didn't like the music of Pearl Jam. I'm sure he would not care that much if he was alive in all honesty if little ads came up like that.

  • Cheers for posting this - the Classic Albums series is cool. I can even watch 'em on albums I don't like. Not that I'm including Nevermind in that list - it's awesome!

  • True that

  • Making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel.

  • you got that from the simpsons douch

  • Someone ordered the London Symphony Orchestra, possibly while high. Cyprus Hill, I 'm looking in your direction...

  • stop it whith that simpsons episode!!!

i have to admit though, that was a good episode, hahah

  • Yeah we think we did lol

  • @0ut0fn0thingdrumer Yea he is,but still,what a great comment!

  • The girl at 2:55 is Suzanne, Weezer wrote a song about her awesomeness.

  • cool

  • R.I.P Kurt. You have the BEST FUCKING VOICE EVER MAN

  • @lowercaseff have to disagree , even as a huge fan .

  • sorry but the new album of green day sucks

  • no it doesnt?? better then that shitty American Idiot they did, but Dookie was the best

  • @santiagocastillo95 Greenday sucks in general but Nirvana was amazing

  • @santiagocastillo95 Thank you that's an overrated dissapointment

  • @santiagocastillo95 Listen to Horseshoes and Handgernades by Green Day off there new album.

  • @santiagocastillo95 listen to peacemaker

  • @santiagocastillo95

In Butch Vig's defense you can only go so far with what an artist gives you.

  • @santiagocastillo95 d

WTF does that have to do w/this clip? are you a child born after Kurt died? Christ, the stupidity is so annoying. I never liked Green Day, but so what?

  • @eqsmooth He said that in his comment because the guy who produced nevermind (Butch Vig) produced 21st Century Breakdown

  • @santiagocastillo95 Your mom sucks cocks in hell.

  • What's annoying? The fact that this shit makes it seem like Nirvana was the first one to smash their fuckin gear... ever fuckin heard of The Who? Gimme a fuckin break.

  • @TonyDanger they suck

  • @slimshady1997ful Your mom sucks fag.

  • @TonyDanger so does the who they suck cock dude

  • Too long time since i last listened to to nirvana. Don't think they're amazing and and i'm not a fanboy, but you would be a moron to say it's bad music.

  • Butch Vig did a great job on "Nevermind", and also on the new Green Day CD "21st Century Breakdown". He's one of my FAV musicans/producers.

  • kurt did take it serousley,he killed himself over it,how more serous can it get.

  • I'm more a metal fan now but I still love Nirvana. In Utero was their creative peak, in my opinion. The best album. It was melding the Nevermind sound with classic grunge

  • I don't know if it's because I'm older now, but i always think it's stupid when bands smash their gear. It's like, just give the stuff to somebody and let them keep it and keep the show going. That's better.

  • Nirvana themselves even admitted that when THEY smashed their gear sometimes it was because with smashed gear they cant play anymore but they still get paid. So for them they seemed to have a good idea

  • @xBadOmen i love how people bull shit through stuff and try to sound smart

they destroyed there equipment only on the last song of the set

  • @dcdude171, well you didnt have to be a dick about it but if you watch at about 4:15you can see where Krist Novaselic himself says almost exactly what I said before.

  • @xBadOmen they smashed their gear cuz they were tired... they just didnt wanna play anymore.. and the ritual became famous.. people loved it.

  • i'm not normally a big fan of Vig's production work, but it is SO COOL to see him picking apart these mixes. dang.

  • 2:40-2:50 I love the way he changes the lyrics.

  • if you like nirvana live defiently check out nrivana live tonight sold out

  • Music just isn't the same as this.... no one puts in the full 100% anymore. i miss it

  • Kurt is awesome.

  • id love to see this show on the album Loveless

  • Heh, its just impossible XD.

  • it deserves to though!

  • fuck. yes.

  • Yes. Loveless kicks so much ass.

  • What's the story behind the smiley face?

This question has been fucking my mind ever since I "met" nirvana...

  • same ive never known where it came from or what it means

  • I wont give up... And when I find out I'll let you know xD

  • ok thanks alot :D

  • And your nick... so true...

  • kurt would draw it on the bridge he slept under while he was homeless. it kinda became their logo

  • Hum, I heard that he lived under a bridge but then people told me that people only thought that he had lived under that bridge because of Something In The Way, and that it was bs... So are you sure? :S

  • well im not 100 percent sure because i wasnt there, but the rumor is he did and since he was homeless for a time i wouldnt doubt it.

  • its a fact, kurt was homeless for a long time while f'd up on heroin. Read the biography.

  • He did live under the bridge after he droppped out. He was a janiotor for the school he dropped out of

  • hoquim high... my teacher went to school with him.

  • wow your teacher went to school with him?? thats awesome. i would have loved to go to school with him

  • He never actually lived under a bridge, its a myth. trust me.

  • He hung out there Krist said no one could ever live under them muddy banks

  • yeah, i actually think he lived under there too... maybe not for long, but just some time

  • he Did when he was a Teenager ...and the Song something in the way proves it =]

  • thats not proof, i can wirte a song about myself beening the queen of an empire of enemic fairies who all have HIV, doesn't meen it's real

  • he said it in interview ...jee -_-

  • hahaha

     nice

  • No. its a myth. he never actually lived under that bridge. its pretty well known that he never did, most people assume he did because of that song.

  • Just something Kurt drew...

He was an artist too, ya know

  • Yeah I do know... He had a really weird obsession with fetuses xD

    Thanks ;D

  • No prob

  • drain you live sounds so fuckin awesoem

  • anyone know what tv station this was on?

  • vh1 classic.

  • originally it's a BBC program

  • the watermark bottom right corner is SBS, an australian channel.

  • Teritorial Pissings... Great song

  • krist has a groovy playing style

  • 2:45 I lol'd

  • just because you're clicheeee, don't mean you can't act gayyyyy

  • he calls the cello in 'Something in the Way' "eerie" but i don't see it that way. I see it as very, very sad. not so much creepy or spooky or "eerie" in his words.

  • yea i c it as all of thee above

  • butch said mournful good adjective

  • he didn't really call the cello eerie..he called the whole track eerie

  • 9:00 very chilling

  • what concert is the live footage from?

  • live tonight sold out dvd

  • 1:57 irritating

  • kirst looks like a grandpa now

  • At 2:40 something when they're playing Lithium, does Kurt say "just because you're patient, don't mean you can't get raped"

If so that lyrics is fucking genious.

  • the song is territorial pissings and the lyrics he sings are "Just because you're paranoid, Dont mean they're not after you"

  • I hear it again and it sounds like he says "Just because youre cliche, don't mean you can't get paid"

    I think I'm going crazy

  • Yeah, it's "Just because youre cliche, don't mean you can't get paid" - or possibly "get laid." Either way, lol.

  • no, its on territorial pissings he says" just because your paranoid, dont mean they're not after you"

  • Sure, we all know he says that on the recording, but I was asking about what he said there. He cleary doesn't say paranoid.

  • 5:37 the guy looks so sad, like back in old memories from a big lost. This documentary is awesome, I'm learning so many things I just didn't known about one of my favorite band from the 90's!

  • yeah the Classic Albums series is incredible. you do learn a lot about a band that you thought you would never have known about.

  • Wow.Ive noticied something,on all of the live nirvana videos, the guys that jump on stage and stumble around, and crowd dive off really look like douchebags.

  • just because your clean shaved dont mean you cant have blades.. Got to find a way a better way!!RIP Kurt.

  • I love it when the band roars into "Territorial Pissings" and the audience just goes apeshit. Why can't more rock bands be like that today?

  • B/c the corporate backers that own rock bands nowadays wouldn't stand for it.

  • 1000

  • yeah kslice8, I fucking agree (not the scare-part tho). So simple, but so fucking powerful.

  • maaaarius123 I gotta agree with him on the scary part, though it's not that it's scary, it's just really eerie and spooky.

  • Kinda eerie though hypnotic almost.

  • something in the way is so amazingly beautiful it could soothe and scare at the same time. give it to anybody and they'll just have a crazy expression on their face

  • its haunting...beautiful but haunting..the good type..

  • Chills up my spine while Butch Vig explained how they recorded Something in the way. I honestly feel privileged to have witnessed that.

  • fuck yea

  • something in the way man. thats whats up.

  • .:word:.

  • The 2nd part doesn't work

  • na your comp is just shit

  • no johhnyg2424 it aint overrated. this album destroyed all the hair n wank rock scenes at the time and gave a spotlight to a new generation. best 5 sngs on here: in bloom, teratorial pissings, something in the way, lithium brred.jus a shame kurt went out the way he did. shoulda quit gone home sat under a tree n played the blues, legend still in tact.

  • Man. Butch Vig seems rather disingenuous to me in this one.

It seems like over the years bands have disowned his production on their albums. In Nirvana's case, I can understand- he put a lot of polish on there and the chorus on the guitars is a little too thick (which is saying alot;I thought The Smiths' s/t had was less overdone with chorus).

In the case of Pumpkins' Siamese Dream, though, I think he made it sound pretty organic. Especially compared to how processed Mellon Collie sounded...

  • butch vig is one of the best producers of all time without him nirvana would of not had as much sucess on nevermind because butch knew how to make the songs sound the best he didn't dictate how it was suppose to sound he let the band do that he only had it even greater
