i'm learning driving recently, just one question... why do people have to briefly step on the accel while opening the clutch for lowering the gear? just curious coz when i was taught driving the manual, my coach only tells me to reduce to a certain speed and lower the gear for example 2nd gear before going into a round-a-bout @ 20
that's what they call rev-matching... race drivers did that during downshifting in manual tranny. if they do that while braking, it's called heel-to-toe technique.. go google them coz im not really good in explaining.. cheers ; )
@kenny062300 It's done in order to match the flywheel speed to the gearbox input shaft speed. This in turn is done to avoid a compression lock-up which would result in the back wheels of a rear-wheel drive vehicle to momentarily lock-up due to the difference in engine/gearbox speed.
You would not normally do this in every-day driving if you drive like a normal human being. This is more for race drivers, or if you know how to do it, for those sticky situations on the road in real life.
@SpirtualSuzie; spastic... probably the perfect word to describe you! in gt legends, as well as in the P&G-mod for GTR2 and this sim itself, you have to do EXACTLY the same movements on the wheel, throttle, brake and clutch like in a real car, on a real track. it took me almost 2 years to learn drifting with most of the cars in gt legends - the reason i learned it in real life so quickly... if you don't know anything about sim-racing, SHUT UP and go on with forza, gran tourismo or some other BS!

to use a g25 on such an old game that doesnt have the realistic's of newer games is a shame, but none the less great video, maybe make one of a newer game ;)
There aren't any new games that are anywhere close to a true driving simulation....You could use it for grid or dirt but the newer games aren't calibrated to recognize or translate any of the fine precision this wheel has to offer any better than a $25 one. So that said,, its a shame to waste a G25 on a NEW game.

I have the G25 but in GT Legends it really isnt setup properly. How did you use the H gears, especially how did you have neutral. For the steering can you have it so it moves the same as the G25? Just can't seem to get the clutch or gears to work, thanks in advance.
go to the controls and on the controls it wil say game accesories extra etc. go to accesories and when it will say 1st gear and so on put it in first on YOUR H and other gears

Try braking with left foot at the DUNLOP bridge turn, where you don't need clutch. this should give you at least two or three tenths. Very good driving.
dude,nice driving but try to be more percise on braking and accelerating!it'll make the car fly faster around corners and you'll improve your time...dont think that cause you hit the pedals like that you're driving aggresively!Just be simple and fast.
Ok a little tip here, don't keep getting on and off the throttle in a corner. It unsettles the car a bit and you lose corner exit speed. If you do want to get on the throttle, stay at the same rate, dont go on/off/on/off. otherwise cool vid :)
There are perfectly good reasons for MODULATING the throttle, or unsettling the car as you say. Its going to change the attitude and balance of the car. Better to get the car to dance thru a turn than to be stuck with understeer, or whatever else. Have a Look at Senna driving the NSX at Suzuka. watch?v=PbieKUQ-UrI

That is heel and toe down shifting. Trail braking is a totally different thing.
Trail braking is a technique to optimize braking by first threshold braking before a turn and immediately followed with progressively decreasing in brake forces as steering increases for the turn.

yes the car will stall just like the real car does...during launching..gear and clutch engaged when not moving...spinning without proper control of clutch....etc
NetKar Pro probably has the most realistic physic, but it only plays F3 or F3000. Followed by Live For Speed, then RFactor. I personally like RFactor the best, because it's got good enough physic, and it just becomes a new game when new car or track mod comes out. Mods are of cos all free.
Nice vid. Try this: remove brake pedal and attach a 20mm this piece of wood and then reattach pedal to the wood but place it right of original position by about 25mm. This will give you a pedal config closer to a real race car and make heal toe easier. Easy mod.
Great driving dude, heel toe is right on check. Maybe you should start breaking first for 1 sec or 2 and then press the clutch and heel toe. Youre going on the clutch too quick! hey, i have that wheel as well. i play gtr2, and the only problem i have with that game is that whenever i drive and have every option set to work with clutch n gearbox, i dont have to press on clutch when driving 50+mph and i can switch the gear without anything happening to the car. does this game has the same thing? or do u really have to press on clutch when going fast the track?
Hey, I really want to know! How *real* is this sim setup with these pc racers and this steering wheel? The only racing sim games I've played are GT and FM series, no pc stuff and no FF wheel. Does the wheel give realistic feedback and is the clutch system robust enough to feel like you're taking off a real car instead of something like say arcade machines with clutch\h shifter(ferrari f355 challenge comes to mind). thanks!
Well, race sims did a very good job in simulating car behaviors thru program physics and visual/audio/steering feedback. They did a pretty good job "simulating" the real thing especially with a FFB steering. The clutch works just like a real car in the sims, and coders will include clutch grab and shift delay to simulate clutch and transmission. Not to mention "shift lock" during down shifting, which can be eliminate/minimize thru "Heel & Toe" down shifting.
I don't wear the shoes when playing game, but I do wear gloves to keep the steering clean. I wear the shoes for the video cause I don't wanna show my feet...LOL.
Not exactly. Its called heel to toe downshifting. It allows you to rev match while braking to prevent and "shock" to the drivetrain which could cause a spin.
It's called a heal-toe or heal to toe...It's just rev matching so you don't get any excess wheelspin out of the apex. It also takes advantage of engine compression for natural braking so you don't overheat your calipers and get a redout.
lol it doesn't cause spin when u downshift without heel+toe, it causes shift lock. Regardless, the result is similar, ur wheels lose grip, no traction = bad (unless ur a silly drifter)

Yes it does. This adds a lot of realism to the game as you will stall the car if you release the clutch too quickly at launch, or upset the handling of the car braking for corners without heel & toe down shifting.
Are you driving a Ferrari 250 GTB? Kudos to you if you are, though I don't know how fast you really are going, I can't drive that car that (seemingly) fast and controlled. You've obviously had some experience driving a 5-speed at speed, looking at the heel-toe action going on, nice work with all that. Tsukuba isn't an easy little track, very technical.

GTL has quite a lot graphic settings which can be used to improve FPS. This looks like the eyecandy has been scaled down a bit indeed, DX7 at least.

Nice driving and demo of the game, wheel and pedals. Good heel and toe work. Would of rather had lower volume on the music, though I am guilty of doing one with music also. The engine roar is music enough heh.

hey, i have that wheel as well. i play gtr2, and the only problem i have with that game is that whenever i drive and have every option set to work with clutch n gearbox, i dont have to press on clutch when driving 50+mph and i can switch the gear without anything happening to the car. does this game has the same thing? or do u really have to press on clutch when going fast the track?

Hey, I really want to know! How *real* is this sim setup with these pc racers and this steering wheel? The only racing sim games I've played are GT and FM series, no pc stuff and no FF wheel. Does the wheel give realistic feedback and is the clutch system robust enough to feel like you're taking off a real car instead of something like say arcade machines with clutch\h shifter(ferrari f355 challenge comes to mind). thanks!

Well, race sims did a very good job in simulating car behaviors thru program physics and visual/audio/steering feedback. They did a pretty good job "simulating" the real thing especially with a FFB steering. The clutch works just like a real car in the sims, and coders will include clutch grab and shift delay to simulate clutch and transmission. Not to mention "shift lock" during down shifting, which can be eliminate/minimize thru "Heel & Toe" down shifting.

I don't wear the shoes when playing game, but I do wear gloves to keep the steering clean. I wear the shoes for the video cause I don't wanna show my feet...LOL.

Not exactly. Its called heel to toe downshifting. It allows you to rev match while braking to prevent and "shock" to the drivetrain which could cause a spin.

It's called a heal-toe or heal to toe...It's just rev matching so you don't get any excess wheelspin out of the apex. It also takes advantage of engine compression for natural braking so you don't overheat your calipers and get a redout.

lol it doesn't cause spin when u downshift without heel+toe, it causes shift lock. Regardless, the result is similar, ur wheels lose grip, no traction = bad (unless ur a silly drifter)

i noticed in the begining when you start off, you still have the clutch depressed.. in GT legends does it support the clutch having a friction/grab point?

Yes it does. This adds a lot of realism to the game as you will stall the car if you release the clutch too quickly at launch, or upset the handling of the car braking for corners without heel & toe down shifting.

Are you driving a Ferrari 250 GTB? Kudos to you if you are, though I don't know how fast you really are going, I can't drive that car that (seemingly) fast and controlled. You've obviously had some experience driving a 5-speed at speed, looking at the heel-toe action going on, nice work with all that. Tsukuba isn't an easy little track, very technical.
