  • ONLY ONE MORE YEAR? WHAT THE FUCK MATT.

  • He never said this next year would be the last, he said he had another year. I'm going to miss this cast so much! :'(

  • WHAT!? How did I not hear about this...? I thought he said he "wasn't planning on leaving anytime soon"!

  • i heared he was on until end of 8 gues i was wrong

  • i just want the dr to age a bit between regerations not just live 4 years...

  • When the characters start hinting at the "death" of the current Doctor you know he only has one season left.

  • catherine tate needs to be dr who next.

  • I had a feeling he was leaving soon. Just as you fall in love with one Doctor they take him away and bring you someone else to judge and ridicule till they find a way into your heart later on. I am curious though as to who they'll pick for 12 but just like Matt they'll keep him a secret.

  • I know I want to see how the 12th Doctor looks like, but this is a bit too soon!!! Darnit Matt.

  • Please Matt, don't go! It won't be as funny without him!

  • He's by actually leaving it's just the filming time until they start again....... He and Karen both said they'd be in the 50th anniversary special anyway so :-)

  • @reidrules45 He is staying until 2013, the first part of series 7 will be this year and the second part next year, according to Stephen Moffat

  • DON'T LEAVE MATT WE <3 U!!! (=

  • @hath5712 No.

  • AAAH! NOOOOOO! MATT SMITH HAS TO BE THE DOCTOR UNTIL AT LEAST 2013!

  • So who's going to be the 12th Doctor? *coughs - Benedict Cumberbatch? - cough*

  • Who's next?

  • What? He's not really leaving, is he?

  • HOW CAN HE SAY THAT SO CASUALLY??

  • He needs to stay a couple more years at least for the show's sake

  • I've been a fan since 1979, and I want Matt Smith to stay a long, long time!

  • I DON'T WANT HIM TO LEAVE!!

  • We have a spare room for him to live in :)

  • If he goes, he needs to be replaced by Benedict Cumberbatch. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @hath5712 YES!

  • I'm glad Matt's staying for one more year. But, please don't go! I've only just gotten used to him as the Doctor!

  • @XxLi3rose123xX Same here. I just got over the loss of David Tennant, and when I started watching the first season with Matt Smith, I loved it. I kinda hope that Matt stays just a while longer. That would be great...

  • @ApprenticeofTime Same. :'(

  • Matt is way better than Tennant, but we need to stop moaning about the possibilty of him leaving. When Matt leaves; I would love the next doctor to be either Robert Englund, or Julian Richings.

  • @Cenobite1991 Or one of the Phelps twins.

  • @marisajts Who're they?

  • @Cenobite1991

Looooool David Tennant is way Better!!!!

  • Matt - Dr. Who is cooler than Spider Man!!

  • @saynsaso oh shut up!!! Every actor had thier turn now matt has his turn. Just accept Davids gone , or if the moff is nice he may apper in the 50th anivversary special.

  • *cries* please don't leave me Matt!!!!

  • NOOOOOOOOOO ;_;

  • it means he is currently only contracted to do one more year. it doesnt mean he will definitely leave once that year is up but it s a possiblity. i have heard him rubbishing so called speculation that he was leaving, now i know where those rumours originated.

  • I think what he means is that hes definately back for another year and he doesn't know after that

  • i heard a rumour that he was staying until the 50th anniversary....guess thats not true

  • David tennnt where are u u were wonderful

  • Jeez, is 3 years all we can expect from our Doctors now? That's a great shame, Matt is brilliant as The Doctor, for me one of the best ever, but come on, 3 years ain't a long time, and many shows have incumbent actors for many many more years than that, so come on Matt, sign up for another 2 to 3 years, give the fans and the role everything, you'll still be young, hot property and a desirable commodity in the US (although don't forget DT hasn't made the inroads in the US he hoped).

  • In the classic series, the average time any actor played the Doctor was three years so don't be too surprised. But I do agree, Matt's great, I think the 50th Anniversary (2013) would be perfect timing for him to leave.

  • @ironjoker101 If you exclude Colin and Sylvester, both of whom lost their jobs because of politics at the BBC, not because they were ready to leave, or that the production staff wanted rid of them, then the average time in place in classic who is 4 years.

  • @ironjoker101 The famed Troughton Rule (why Chris Eccleston.couldn't at least do that much, I'll never know). And you're right, the 50th Anniversary would be the perfect time for Smith to leave.

Of course, some people will still be hoping for David Tennant to return.

  • @lkgrave All the remaning docs should return!

  • @XxLi3rose123xX Of course. And yes, this includes both Colin Baker and Paul McGann.

  • @lkgrave :D

  • @XxLi3rose123xX With mentions (tributes) to the ones that came before!

  • @themccrimmon Yes! :D

  • @lkgrave

I think Chris was never dedicated to the character, just the series. So he did his work and buggered off with no interest with reprising the role.

by the sound of his interviews it seems that he just wanted to work with Russell T Davies, he didn't give a shit about the Doctor

  • @Adammarketis They should have just went with David Tennant in the beginning. Than again, I would have offered CE the role of the Master.

  • matt smith is a brillant doctor he at least needs to do 3 seires but i hope they chabge the regenration again because that gold flame crap only really works a few times in the classic series the regeneration effect was different each time as the fx got better.

  • Wait.... The Doctor is coming over to live in America?

    O.O

    AWESOME!

  • he said in 2010 that he was only staying until 2011 so he probably will stay longer.. maybe...

  • dudes dnt worry about it remember david tennant he said he only had one yr left of doctor who and he only said that coz the bbc only comiossioned 1 series at a time. so like every chill and take this with a pinch of salt. all we know is production on who is gunna be a yr coz of the anniversary. and as we all suspect but not fully know we reckon well get 8/9 episodes as a series and the remaining 6/5 episodes well be specials for 2013. so every1 relax and dnt worry,.

  • Well. This is severely depressing. D=

  • ONE YEAR LEFT! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • ...what...what?...what!...WHAT?!...WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTT???!!!!!!!

  • Matt is making a wise decison, to leave DW after 3 years. He will leave after making Dr#11 unique, and before his portrayal becomes tiresome.

Had Tom Baker left at the end of Season 14, after 3 years, he would still be considered the All-time top Doctor, as his popularity and ratings in seasons 12,13&14 remain the consistently highest ever in DW history, with no one else even remotely close. Tom's ratings in his final season 18 were dismally low, almost as bad as the worst of C.Baker & McCoy.

  • CONT: My dream would have been for Elisabeth Sladen to remain to the end of Season 14, and at the end of Season 14, she would have left with Tom, & Phillip Hinchcliffe. This would have allowed an entirely new approach to WHO in Season 15, with an entirely new production and TARDIS team.

Tom Baker hanging on through Season 18 hurt WHO as much if not more than BBC management caving in to Mary Whitehouse and insisting on WHO changing the highly sucessful track it had been on since Season 7.

  • Okay. If they need a twelfth Doctor, where do I send my headshots?

  • @trueorbetter probably to some sniper man.

  • isn't it suppossed to be taking a break anyway? Probably means hes got one more designated year, then he might have time on his hands before the next series

  • Comment removed

  • I hope that Steven Moffat goes after next year. Matt Smith is way better than most of the material he's given.

  • I'm hoping that they're just doing this on purpose. Remember how everyone knew the Doctor wouldn't die at the end of Series 6 because they (Matt, Karen, and Arthur) were all confirmed for Series 7. Maybe this is Steven's way of making "the fall of the Eleventh" more exciting and less predictable.

  • Definitely praying to Santa that he doesn't leave.

  • @TomoTalks I KNOW! I mean, we just lost Tennant! No more! D:

  • well, if he does leave before the 50th anniversary we'll have ANOTHER Doctor in the episode.. but personally I don't want him to leave.... I love Matt's Doctor!

But the "one year left" could also just mean that he's contract says one more year, and then he has to sign another contract to stay longer =P *fingers crossed for this option*

  • why can't one good british actor actually stay in britian for once!? his talent will be wasted away...

  • it says in the brilliant book that he's staying for the 50th anniversary. Also, he said "another", not "only" :/

  • He was my first doctor. I am going to miss him so much.

  • JON PERTWEE, Then you Matt. You Rock!

  • british friends....... Alex Kingston? ;)

  • Woo this guy has the exact same names as me lol

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MATT!! D: YOU CAN'T LEAVE!!!

  • @ThatRandomGuy118 Seriously? People are STILL crying over David Tennant? GET OVER IT!! HE REGENERATED!!!!!! Matt Smith is an AWESOME Doctor and I'll be sad to see him go

  • @thenextbroadwaystar1 It doesn't stop the ten fans to still be sad about his departure just like you will soon be sad when Smith leaves the show. Get over it, he has to regenerate!

  • @thesixpwr2 David Tennant was my first Doctor. I probably love him as much as all the people saying "bring him back". I am willing to say that I love him more because I was willing to let him go. But people saying "Bring David Tennant back!!!" need to wake up. It's been almost 2 years. Do I miss David Tennant? Yes. Do I want to see him again? Yes. But WITH the 11th Doctor. Matt Smith is an AWESOME Doctor and his run has been TO short. He needs to stay for at least 2 more years

  • @thesixpwr2 the old bring DT back gag. That still going? Like you said the Doctor has to rengerate. DT fans are funny if not a little worrying, They do understand that the very man who they suck up to is a Matt Smith fan right? Also DT fans can hardly be consider Dr Who fans. Loyal to David yes but if they stopped watching becuse he left and Matt took over...well not the actions of a fan. DT fans in my experince are just horny thick silly girls. No actor is bigger then the show.

  • @TimelordTVRevolution I am a DT fan. I am NOT a girl. I think matt smith is GREAT. I LOVE DOCTOR WHO, I AM STILL WATCHING. The moment the doctor regenerated, i did not turn away in disgust at this stranger, but i immediatley tried too see if he had the doctor factor. HE DOES. I think David Tennant is the best doctor ever, but i dont think he should come back. Everything has it's time, and everything ends.

  • Tbh, this doesn't necessarily mean he's leaving. Remember guys and gals, he did a lot of stuff in between Series 5 and 6. His contract is over after his 3rd year, same with David Tennants but he has been offered an optional 2 more years after that.

  • My favorite doctor is tennant but ur cool as well! dont leave!

  • NnnooooooooooooooOooooOoooOooooO!!!!!

  • NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! D': I only watched Doctor Who cuz Matt!!!!! Hes my doctor!!.....charlieissocoollike i blame u for making me addicted to Doctor Who!!!!! :'(

  • He's the best thing that's ever happened to Doctor Who. This is awful news. :(

  • awe sad only one year left? He's a great doctor he can't leave so quick.

  • Us "Ten" fans have survived 2 seasons without him now. I think it's time for a fresh start. Otherwise the show is gonna get old and fans are gonna lose interest in the show. It's time for "twelve" to come along!

  • @thesixpwr2 'survived' ? I resent that... these seasons have been brilliant

Moffat and Matt were a brilliant combination

  • @2Scribble I'm not saying that they weren't. Moffat and Smith are great, but for ten fans we enjoyed Tennant and RTD a lot more cause they were something special. I am not trying to be mean or anything lol

  • Hi everyone, I run a Doctor Who blog which posts news and stuff. I'm 14, it's not that popular after 5 months now and I'm just looking for something to help kick it off. I post least once daily, and I think you might like it if you're a doctor who fan. Anybody doong me a favour and checking it out, I'd be most grateful! The URL is whoniverseblog . com

  • The Fields of Trenzalore, "the fall of the eleventh" and the question. Saw it coming the moment it was said. But either way, I can't wait. Every Doctor has been amazing, who ever picks up Smith's place, I believe will be just as awesome!

  • No!!!!!!! Matt is the best doctor.

  • ONE MORE YEAR!?!? Bloody hell. Time goes by too fast.

  • I'll be the doctor! I'll be the first female doctor and be the youngest with the age of 18! :D

  • Regenoration of 11th doctor :.(

  • He needs to stick around for at least the same time as David or more!

  • To me Matt still feels quite "new" as The Doctor. Sure we've had 2 seasons from him now. But still it feels like he hasn't been around that long. We haven't even seen him with different companions yet, so he has alot of potential to still perform.

Hope you don't leave Matt, for all us Whovians :)

  • This has happened before get over it, NU-Who fans!!!!

  • Dear Matt Smith,

    Please do not leave !

Another Brilliant, Loved, Awesome "Cool" Doctor leaving Two times in a row!

Please dont Leave us fans !

What do we do to keep you huh ?

Too soon ! Please Please Please stay for another series or 5 ;)

    Please???

    Yours Truly,

    Crystine <3 xox

  • matt come visit me at losangels california Laguna hills

    steret califia

  • im wearing a doctor who hallowen coustom

  • @rafcins im going as Amy Pond, or Rose, or Martha (:

  • He's planning to leave already? He's on record elsewhere saying he intends to stay in the role for as long as the fans will have him and that he hopes to break Tom Baker's record. (Colin Baker said the same, and look what happened to him. . . . ) I suspect and devoutly hope that the truth lies somewhere in between.

  • @aperson22222 - what he actually said was that he hoped to make it to the 50th anniversary

  • @2Scribble Seems he's said several different things at different times, actually.

  • "Another year of Doctor Who " =/= "One year left of Doctor Who".

    God, I hate you people.

  • Time can be rewritten.

He for sure has to stay at least another 2.

  • I think he means one more year of filming, A series filmed in 2012, would air in 2013,

  • NO MATT SMITH!!!

  • "One more year on who, then I'll try to break America" could mean one year of filming a break then back again. Enough time to try America!

  • If he is going to leave in a year, I'll be really sad. Matt Smith has really done well with the role and is my favourite New Series Doctor alongside Christopher Eccleston.

I'm hoping that he doesn't leave until 2015 or so, but that's me being selfish.

  • Does this mean there are only 2 regenerations left? The doctor only has 13 right?

  • @christopherpsull he has 507 regenerations, was said on sarah jane adventures

  • @christopherpsull Actually when matt smith's doctor was in the sarah jane adventures he said he can regenerate 500 times. Also, don't forget david tennent regenerated twice. at the end of stolen earth he put all the regeneration energy into his hand. i realise originally there were only meant to be 13 regenerations but the Master has had more than that. :) so i'm sure there are many regenerations left. :P

  • On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a Question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered.

At the fall of the eleventh.

At the fall of the eleventh.

AT THE FALL OF THE ELEVENTH

  • Please don't leave Matt!

  • im guessing that he leaves at the 2013 50th anniversary as what better to end the 50th anniversary with the famous regeneration of the doctor it will spark a new era in the show - hopefully a better one I miss Russel T Davies

  • @FredtheRandom - oh yeah, more Blingleks. Sobbing Time Lords and Jack's sexuality jokes

Please bring back the RTD era

    /sarcasm

  • Oh, good lord, people: we *knew* from the outset that his contract to do DW was for 3 years (with an option to pick up another 2, for a total of 5), and historically the general median of how long a given Doctor lasts is about 3-4 years. This is no big deal. Seriously. He *might* still continue into or beyond the 50th anniversary, or he may not -- it would all be par for the course. (Personally, I'd like to see a 2013 regeneration, but that's just my opinion...).

  • I would like to see a Doctor stick it out for a good while, I think there is a feeling with Who these days that you don't really have to commit for a long period of time, seeing as we have leads for only a few years. In a show without regenerations, you would have a lead actor for sometimes seven or eight seasons, it's be good to find a good actor and have them last more than three seasons.

  • @fso520 - actually Tom Baker was the exception, 'these days' are just like 'those days' the general life expectancy of a Doctor WAS three years

  • i love how the reaction at the moment is "NOOOOO!" when back in 2010 when he took over from david tennant, we hated his guts. which i feel really guilty about now- he's amazing! we'll miss him, he may not be remembered as much as david tennant but he'll leave us rembreing how cool bowties are and how jammy dodgers are the best way to scare a dalek. still, i look forward to hating the guts of the next actor, then feeling sorry for myself later on... hopefully...

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MATT DONT LEAVE lol

  • hes CONFIRMED for another year of doctor who (contract signed etc...) but after that he doesnt know. So there could be a chance for him to do another few series, he just hasnt been officially offered it yet, thats what he means!

  • he said i got one year of doctor who it doesnt mean hes leaving he might just go on a break do other stuff and come back relax guys

  • Why Matt just why

  • wHAT THE HELL

  • Omg nooooo my heart is breaking!!! He can't go yet!! :(

  • He will be in the anniversary for 2013 but he will probz regenerate then! When he says he has one year left he means one year of filming! also they will probz show half of series 7 towards the end of 2012 and the other half in 2013 but by the time we see the episodes in 2013 he would have already filmed them and left the show! But I think his time as the doctor as gone pretty quick and I can't wait to see whats in store for him before he goes!

  • Woo hoo

  • Yes at last woo koo

  • He's leaving before the...50th anniversary? :'(

  • Andy as in Andrew Garfield? :O I don't know how far behind I am but holy crap Matt's friends with Andrew Garfield, that's awesome :D

  • Nooooo ;____;

  • The Master & Jenny's gotta come back 2 - I'd love the big bad behind The Silence & Kovarian 2 be Omega & for him 2 be revealed next series or at the 50th - once The Doctor regenerates at the fields of trenzalore when his name will b revealed that's when we're gonna see his dark incarnation - The Valeyard oh & the next Doctor should be ginger! Rupert Grint maybe?

  • @LFC007Matt Agreed but hell no to Jenny!

I think Matt deserves at least two more series, he hasn't been given enough time for character development, a sontaran ep, proper cybermen ep, epic dalek story, master ep et ceterer

  • @TheAdamTowers

That's true but if they could fit all that in for Matt's Doctor next series or into the 50th i'll b pleased but what have u got against Jenny? The Doctor's got a daughter out there somewhere & he doesn't even know she's alive they need 2 b reunited & her character's a great plot device waiting 2 be used

  • @LFC007Matt I just despise Jenny, she isn't the Doctors daughter its just a lifeform with the Doctors DNA in it - his real daughters on Gallifrey and has never been recognized visually on screen so why would I want a poorly written and blandly acted character.

  • @TheAdamTowers That's true but they kept her character alive for a reason & that reason should be fulfilled yh I agree she was poorly written in 'The Doctor's Daughter' But with better script writing like the Moff's then I'm sure her character will be better portrayed on screen otherwise if they just leave it it'll be a massive plot hole

  • @LFC007Matt: Please god, no main actors from Harry Potter.

  • Makes sense... - The Doctor should regenerate at the 50th anniversary don't get me wrong, Matt's Doctor is brilliant & my 2nd fave but it all makes sense if he does regenerate in the 50th but i want 2 see an epic episode with some of the previous Doctor's back such as 10, 9 & 8 or some of the others 2...

  • Hang on does this mean he's actually leaving in one year? "another year" just makes me feel as if he's saying that he has another year until he's back off filming.

  • That's hardly an official announcement. He could just be referring to his contract. Obviously he'll be back for the 50th anniversary.

  • Don't leave, not before the 50th Anniversary :O

  • @BarneystudiozFilmz Matt Smith has confirmed he will be in the 50th

  • He would be stupid to give it up.

  • So who will be the new doctor ?

  • NOOOOOO!
