Chris Bristow ejected from his car and landing near a barbed-wire fence, beheading him. He might have survived the crash had he not been thrown. Who knows what his career would be like.
Almost all of these drivers died at the tests of new cars. That shows the new cars were not safe enough. The mechanics of these cars shold be guilty of their death, not the drivers. R.I.P. to all these drivers
On June 20th is the 100th Birthday of Paul Pietsch, the last driver of the Grand Prix Races between 1930 and 1938.
A living history book, and a lucky guy who hasn´t lost his life at the dangerous times of motor sport... R.I.P. to everyone in this video, you´ll never be forget.
holy crap that crash at 2:09 is tragic! I go to the GP every year at silverstone and think to myself all this fencing etc is annoying for viewing but my god, if they had it back then! Nice tribute. People still dont realise how dangerous f1 is and still is to this day. You should check out a video ive just put up of the 2010 season.
There were more deads in the Formule 1. Around 1953 till 1959 the track Indianapolis (indy) 500 was a part of the FIA World Drivers' Championship. On that track died 7 or 8 drivers between 1953 and 1959.
And someone of them will won the championship if he was'nt died (Collins, Von Trips, Bandini). Poor Alan Stacey, he died because a bird hit him! Very unlucky
Fucking Pilots what the fuck you doing? You see a car burn a really strong crash and you don't stop to help/how is your Friend? For me isn't important a fucking race i want the life of a pilot of a my Friend Money don't make me happy. Thumbs up if you think same :) RIP To all Pilots doing this things :D Better die like they... Doing a thing they like and be remembered :)
far too many great drivers, truly great drivers lost their lives over the years. the best way to get across just how dangerous it was is something that jakie stewart, lets face it a world authority on such things, points out to express it. if you were a racing driver for 5 years around the time he raced, so from about the time of the end of this video, bare in mind they all raced in numerous formula, you would have stood a 2in3 chance of having died either racing or testing. 2 IN 3!
@coland1982 Henry died at Silverstone, but it wasn't a Formula 1 race - it was a BRDC event. As Jim was arguably the greatest F1 driver that ever was, it's only fair to include him in a tribute.
At that time, many drivers raced and died at other classes, & they were a loss to their families, motorsport and to the world. To leave out a 2 times F1 world champion on a pedantic point that he wasnt actually killed in an F1 race, is frankly trite and in many people's opinion derogatory.
Very well made compilation....if we must have music rather than original soundtrack then this is how it should be done.
Are you listening? all those of you out there who insist on using pounding rock tracks or even worse that rubbish that is called 'rap'... if you put a C on the front of rap then it's about right.
They are making the bets on the risk management of the situation every second.....for hours? They make good and bad bets. Sometimes its not even their decision. To even start the race requires lots of responsibility to the driver.
Fine video. There are some other great F1 drivers who died not necessarily in an F1 car, but racing or testing, like Alberto Ascari, Jean Pierre Wimille or Mike Hawthorn, just to name a few.

Yes, it defies belief now that the Italian GP should have carried on after the Von Tripps crash. Several spectators also died in the incident. Likewise after Bandini's crash the race carried on around his burning car. I am not a great fan of modern F1 but at least the welfare of the driver is somewhat higher on the agenda than it was in the 50s and 60s.
Bel video!!! Forse però potevi anche risparmiarti di mettere i video delle puntate di sfide( per esempio, nell' incidente di bandini è stato tagliato il pezzo dove si vedeva il contatto con le barriere)
the roger williamson crash looked TERRIBLE! was that the driver slumped against the fence in that crash??? and the von trips crash looked horrible too! there had to be some injuries with the crowd standing right there too!
I remember watching a car racing movie from the 30's. Similar style cars. The guys were crashing and flying out of them becaues they wore no seat belts.!!! you would have thought they have figured it out by then. A lot of these could have survived.
no you have got it wrong, there was no advantage in those days to be strapped into the car, it was seen as an advantage to be thrown from the car because the cars of the 30s, 40s, 50s 60s were not taking corners so fast(no wings) and therefore there was less G force and because they were so fragile you would easily be crushed inside the car therefore it was better to be ejected although it was better not to crash at all! Many drives walked away after being thrown away, many did not, it is luck
You are right, furthermore many of the 60s and 70s drivers was extremely worried about fire and so they didn' wear seatbelts because they feared they could remain trapped in the car if a fiery crash occurred. Furthermore in the early years there was no roll-bar so being sticked to the seat would have been simply deadly in case of a roll.

Agree. Medal system sucks - under such sustem the driver with the best car, which, however, is unable to finish the race (eg due to crashes) will beat the driver in the slower car who is more reliable and intelligent. That's unfair.
Under Bernie F1 becomes a sport for Arabian sheikhs. That sucks.

At the crash of Von Trips it looks weird.
You see it's like he flow to the other side of the track. And then he stands on the other side of the track!

I agree. What the fuck about the shitty medals system!

Agree. Medal system sucks - under such sustem the driver with the best car, which, however, is unable to finish the race (eg due to crashes) will beat the driver in the slower car who is more reliable and intelligent. That's unfair.
Under Bernie F1 becomes a sport for Arabian sheikhs. That sucks.
