  • Evokes images of a peaceful empty city street on a clear, quiet Sunday morning with a slight breeze blowing as one walks down it--Venus yes I can bring that to mid as well but all music is subjective to the hearer.

  • Love how the song goes on after it reaches the end time.

  • I played the whole suite once in Jr high and once in High School and it continues to be one of my favorite peices to play and listen to. Being a String Bass player it's hard to get music that moves me.

  • I remember when I first commented on this piece 2 years ago, and I kept saying I had a vision in my head when I'd hear it. Well, as it turns out, not that much longer after that, when I bought each planet's piece and started playing them on shuffle, an entire storyline started forming itself in my mind, like a movie. I only end up doing that with songs and pieces that really move me and mean something to me, so that tells you something. Look what The Planets Suite can trigger for the mind. :)

  • This is the number one song I always use for Music Therapy. Love it. Great for imagery travel.

  • THIS IS ON PLANET EARTH - "Seasons" or whatev the song is called omg! llolololol

  • I either imagine myself being on a boat in the middle of the ocean, admiring its grandness, or deeply in love. It's really weird.

  • Beautiful piece of music <3

  • I see the Estuary to the river Exe in all it's peace and beauty whenever I listen to this music - the flow of the water, the birds - can't describe, my command of the English language is disgraceful, how do you describe an emotion, you have to be there to experience it. As dawn breaks Winter or Summer - i am privaliged to live in such a place!

  • Bringer of love and VD

  • @chunkluv1972 Not that it's your fault or anything like that, but just like the user cheeeston says, if one clicks the bar it starts the video to the beginning; additionally, if one clicks the minutes and seconds in your comment here, the video doesn't stay at that spot, but drops back to the beginning again. It must be some sort of glitch in the upload.

  • wierd vid

  • @chunkluv1972 me too :-)

  • I think the most important thing about music the emotions it stirs, and this whole collection represents separate emotions which is what makes it so absolutely stirring.

  • the symphony orchestra at my university is putting together the whole Op. 32 at a concert next week!! Can't wait.. it's going to be awesome.

  • sweet ear candy

  • This piece makes me think of what it might be like to float around in the intergalactic void (without freezing, dying etc.).

  • this song kept playing for a good 30 seconds after it got to the end.... kinda freaked me out

  • i hate how this video brings me back to the beginning when i click the bar

  • ☮ Merci ☮

  • First of all, this piece and artists are GREAT. Second, its not SONG, its a freaking PIECE. And this piece came from the composer, not a movie. It was IN a movie (not sure which one), not FROM one..

  • Celesta's an octave low.

  • helps me sleep at night i suffer with bad arthritus the lot but soon as i put this classic cd on especially this song i fall into a peaceful sleep :)

  • isn't this in some disney movie, any way yeh 4 only 9 thumbs down

  • @starfireandraven If it is in a Disney movie, the song came before the movie.

  • @xena91388 yeah I know that, but does anyone remember which movie?

  • Heard this song the other day on tv. Fell instantly in love.

  • DUDE, this is just... masterpiece,

  • This song reminds me of the book "the little prince" who leaves his home on a far away asteroid to visit earth and learn about life in his exploration

  • right now theres a girl that i wish could be in my embrace while listening to this song...

  • When I was a very young child ,maybe 8 or 9 I remember going into my dads study and climbing up on to his lap and listening to this music. My dad would say to me 'a planet for every mood' at the time I didn't really understand what he meant .Now 40 years later I can really appreciate what he was trying to say.

  • @debzpoet

    Totally agree

  • @debzpoet That's awesome. I have a four year old, and when she was a baby, I used to play this song to her on a compilation that I made for her (both classical and jazz). She enjoys "listening" to music with me too, sitting on my lap watching You Tube videos. Your comment made me realize I'm doing something right by exposing her to great music, even if it's on You Tube.

  • it makes me feel like im in a black and white mystery movie..ah the good old days:)

  • one of my all-time favorite classical suites. Still a magnificant piece of magic..

  • Venus has been stunning lately (mid-December 2010) -- get up before dawn, maybe 6 AM int he middle north latitudes and go out and look east -- huge and brilliant. It's been said this vision of Venus rising was the inspiration for Tolkien's silmaril on the prow of the returning Earendil's ship.

  • I would like to die listening to this piece.

  • it makes me sleepy...no offense! :o

  • it makes me sleepy :o

  • Such magnificent irony, Venus a planet of serene beauty and called a planet of peace is in fact one of the most hellish place's in the solar system.

  • @ZOLTAR802 Coulda been worse; they could have named it Io.

  • This is beautiful.

  • Comment removed

  • I've listened to all the planets and this is by far my favorite planet. It's so soothing and calm...I just never get tired of it

  • Oh Lucifer, O Aphrodite, O Isis O Ishtar... fallen one, I love you...

  • allah can fuck off, all heil the glory of god-king HOLST

  • I find it funny that every one is arguing heatedly about a peace called Venus, bringer of peace.

  • @allenmischief Of course, it's v.hot in Venus, so I'm told .....

  • @allenmischief No pun intended? Haha. Venus is the bitch of our solar system. Rightfully named.

  • @allenmischief a PIECE called Venus, Bringer of Peace*

Please learn your grammar before you make a comment...

  • @allenmischief beautiful really beautiful, such great words of love and respect x

  • Just because she is the goddess of beauty, does not make her any less of a woman. As the old adage goes: "Hell hath no fury.." I think the solar system (and Holst!) have both decided to show us something.

  • Let's not waste our time debating about something we'll never know the answer to.

  • It's ironic that the name of the goddess of beauty was attached to the most fiendish and hostile planet in our solar system.

  • @TehComs it's ironic that you are wrong about venus, get ur info from the 'jnr encyclopedia of space' (reddwarf fans will know that)...Venus is actually closer to US as a planet than you think....anyway enough spat....a brilliant track..just chill

  • @sparkyjeff2 Like the atomsphere of sulfuric gas that constantly reflects most of the sun's light back towards us, giving the planet a sheen not unlike that of a star in our nighttime sky, the extreme air pressure that could crush a man flat and...oh...you were referencing a British comedy show. My humblest apologies.

Back to listening to the peaceful music to get my blood pressure down.

  • @TehComs 3 million years into deep space ..etc etc just me the cat and a hologram of my dead m8.....but this is classic , keeps a guy happy ,the whole suite.!

put your speakers on max ..(headfones if ur married lol) and enjoy!

  • This is beauty.

  • From my understanding, of Gustav Holst, he was a believer in mysticism. He believed in realm of spiritual existence. If anything he was a deep thinker about life and I'm sure it influenced his creativity as a composer.

  • Just let it go and enjoy the music.

  • The piece is marvellous, i've been looking for this for a while now.

  • @EnrySimmersen I have a wonderful recording of this suite by the London Philharmonic Orchestra; Conductor Owain Arwell Hughes; Choir Cambridge Singers. Try the LPO website and their recordings under 'Here Come The Classics'

  • It really disappoints me that these are based on astrology; astrology's shit.

  • @Daruqe who gives a crap about what they're based on, listen to the music, not the story behind it, and you'll realize that the planets suite is one of the best ever written

  • @bendl2

That's why I find it disappointing; I love the suite.

  • @Daruqe Great opinion; keep it to yourself. Holst found a great deal of interest in astrology, so he wrote about the celestial bodies that held so much mystery from him. And thank whatever lord you worship that he did, because these pieces are fantastic. :]

  • @Otherworldly101

Again, indeed they are fantastic, but astrology is nothing but ancient unvindicated superstition. If it's about finding wonder in the celestial bodies, there's plenty of wonder in them simply as worlds, not supernatural forces.

  • @Daruqe It sounds to me that he'd have more of a reason to compose music about them if he found more interest in them as supernatural forces that affected aspects of his life rather than simply big rocks or balls of gas hanging in the sky.

  • @Daruqe

Yes, I know as an amateur Astromoner. And avid reader of the books of Brian Cox, Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawking. I find Astrology retched and horrid. But if it inspires something as serene and as beautifull as this, then so be it . If I may quote Sir Patrick Moore though.

"Astrology proves only one scientific fact"

    "There's one born every minute"

  • Parade of planets! Horizon of events! Beautiful things, thanks!

  • pluto would have been the second last, right?

  • @MMOPalace i dont think so, since it was the outer-most planet in the solar system before it was named a dwarf planet

  • @MMOPalace Pluto wasn't a planet when this written. It was written when we only knew about 8 planets.

  • @MMOPalace i dont thing so it was out there a lil ways out there with planet x (xena)

  • @MMOPalace No. The suite is based on the astrology, not astronomy. So, Pluto is not included.

(besides, can you imagine how choppy the asteroid belt would be?)

  • @BunBun002 i wouldent think to imagine how choppy the astroid belt would be

  • @BunBun002 i would have thought the real reason pluto wasnt included was because it hadnt been discovered yet, no?

  • Wow, this certainly is the Bringer of Peace. I've found my headache has just melted away as I've listened to this! Amazing!

  • i still remember the moves of my 8th grade marching band jupita this one and mars =]

  • my marching band is paying this song 4 r show this year and jupiter and mars! :)

  • @moodyM13 Our marching band is playing Mars and Jupiter as well!! And Mercury... I'd love to play this one.. Lucky!

  • @moodyM13 Not really a good marching song...but Jupiter is just spectacular. And Mars...I've never seen anybody march in 5/4 time.

  • @aubreyprosper1994 My band has, just keep your feet going, and be aware each measure alternates foot. It took a few hours of practice, but its not that hard.

  • @SquallLionhart409 marching in 5/4 is so anoying :/ its not HARD just...annoying

  • @aubreyprosper1994 marching in 5/4 is so anoying :/ its not HARD just...annoying

  • As a hornist it has been a dream of mine to play that opening solo. <3

  • This music reminds me as I felt in my first love...

  • @Ownatory

    guess im a hypocrit x'D

  • I was in love with a boy a time, and this music really shows my feelings for him!

  • Everytime I remember this, it always brings some memories of my early childhood back. I'm not sure why it keeps doing that, but the only thing I know is that this truly is a very, very wonderful piece of music that I hold close to my heart.

  • This makes me cry!

  • june 6th 2012

  • Whenever I listen to classical music such as this I feel dirty and unclean.

  • @SeedsofJoy pls say that's because the music is so beautiful and pure and in comparison human beings are pond scum.

  • @SeedsofJoy

How could anyone feel anything but joyous, cleansing, peace when listening to this? That's strange at best....

  • @SeedsofJoy

In comparison? I don't really see what so dirty and unclean about this music at all.

  • This sounds like it would've wored will in the pixar movie Up....

  • gran obra de Holst

  • My favourite of the Planet Suite would have to be Jupiter Bringer of Jollity I love Mars Bringer of War and also this one, Venus Bringer of Peace.

  • verry good

  • I think war is somthing that humans create for amusment. when a world power gets bored they start a war. it also is out of greed and hatred. but for peace is true amusment. peace will bring salvation. war kill and will end the worl if we keep going.

  • @aidansayshi123456789 It's nice that you're noticing a trend, but I really strongly disagree. There's usually a war going on somewhere because A) there's always something that everybody wants, but only one can have, B) it is actually good for the economy, and C) everybody wants to rule the world. I think you're personifying countries when you say that they even can get bored. So yeah... just my opinion.

  • my favorate from the planets!

  • It ends at 8:20, but it goes well over ._.

  • @n8ames creepy isn't it?

  • @n8ames Your comment made me laugh. The little squished face. Haha.

  • awsome

  • God is the bringer of prosperity in whatever form, therefore god is every religion because this is what all religions seek

  • @Tommanc1

No. God is Truth. All religions (except Satanism) seek to know and love the truth. But some religions are definitely closer to the whole truth than others. To claim all faiths are equal is to call God a witness to contradiction and falsehood, which is against His nature as Truth.

  • @oursbebe lol

  • How about all you imbeciles argue about religion on your own time, so we can all enjoy the greatness that is Venus: Bringer of Peace.

  • "close your eyes and listen to this. let your imagination take you to where the music makes you feel. It means that you will be wherever you want to be. That is true freedom, if not religion. No matter who you are!" - Me. (just now)

  • Haha!

chriswynevs, your all right in my book!

  • @chriswynevs Too bad no one will ever reference you because you're using a screen name.

  • @RoboRobotnik There is no need for you to worry sir/madame, for I, unlike most people, use my real name.

  • @chriswynevs i chuckle'd at the quotations

  • @TipOfTheBlade I aim to please ;)

  • @chriswynevs "I find it really annoying when people quote themselves. It defeats the purpose of quoting" - Me. (on many an occasion)

  • allah did'nt create the world. created some nutcases.

  • I don't see Holst in a country garden thinking about Venus. I don't see him in a lot of usual places in society writing this kind of music.

Where was he, and who was he thinking about?

  • I get choked up when I listen to this... and I have no idea why.

  • sorry i don't mean to join in this Christian video i was jus try to listen to the music after i go to sleep and if you are thinking another thing no its not another thing that you are thing maybe

    and iam sorry agian

  • No problem, just remember the composer of 'the planets' was a Christian, meaning He did not believe Allah created the planets from which He made these classic pieces to.

  • God=Allah

    They are the same thing.

  • @abdalla1823 Allah, God, Jesus = Love.

    Peace my friend.

  • Nonsense. Allah is not creation, and love is.

  • Permit me to say ... they are playing too slow !!! The title is yes "Venus the bringer of peace" ... not "Venus the bringer of sleep" ...

  • Peacefulness can be found in sleep. When we are a sleep, we are in a different world where are all our worldy problems do not exsist. Also faster paced music has been associated with anger which would be the opposite of peace. So I find this tempo to be acceptable.

  • @elicandondo you're elicandondo, the bringer of bullshit

  • hehehe yeah probably you've righ !!! :)

  • I wonder why holst never made an earth LOL

  • I guess it's because it's so hard to embody a planet we know alot about ( although very little at the same time) into music, where as the other planets are a mystery, so he can write anything he likes.

  • @natsumiscarlet31 Because it is from a perspective of astrology, not astronomy.

  • that is because he was writing about astronomy and earth is'nt in the sky if you know what i mean lol

  • @natsumiscarlet31 its because holst's planets is based on astrology, not astronomy

  • God this is so beautiful. It's perfect.

  • great this when ya relaxing in bed cnt sleep put this on out like a light

  • I would've expected Venus to be a Love Suite...

  • yeah a planet that is basically a boiling pot

  • the guy who is practically my bf at this point said this reminds him of me. <3 its so pretty... =)

  • Very beautiful, a work of art, Peaceful

  • Which symphony performed this!!!!

  • boston pops orchestra, the same orchestra used for the score of star wars, indiana jones, and more

  • that was the london symphony for those recordings.

  • sorry, it's the london symphony

  • BEAUTIFUL.....

  • One of my favourites, while playing chess with Dad. That was 30 years ago; but who's counting

  • @eddie100 The years come and go so fast don't they?

  • a memory worth preserving.

  • doesnt have the whole thing?

  • omg thanks to you i can now do my Gustav Holst project!

  • Beautiful

  • yea learn it jerks

  • Absolutely outstanding performance!!!! Thank you VERY MUCH for sharing this with us!!! Is this from Haitink's recording on Philips with the London Philharmonic? It sure sounds like it.....

  • I really love this music, it's wonderful

  • THis music is beautiful, very relaxing, soothing sounds of music I have never heard of such music for a long time...

  • got to love the horn solo at the beginning I can't remember if I played it or my friend did in our concert

  • Composed for Gustav Holst en *1914*.

  • my teacher likes this kind of music so all our class listens!

  • I think Seiji Osawa's interpretation must be among the front-runners.

  • What Orchestra/Philharmonic Is Playing This?

  • All of the planet's are beautiful. It's a shame Holst was ashamed that they were so popular. He just wanted attention for his other pieces.

  • truly beats rap this is cool

  • The planets is a master peice. No one will ever match it for it's atmosphere and moods.

  • All these pieces are beautiful. :)

  • Why doesn't my local orchestra ever play this?
