Considering Shaq's height, if he started swimming from a young age and he had the flexibility of Phelps and trained as as hard as Phelps does, Shaq might have been an olympic swimmer.
hahahhah gundam your an idiot. that can be said about just about anyone. if you start anything at a young age and train as hard as phelps did. then you will be great at it
Actually what you said is incorrect. You also have to be gifted with biological abnormalities such as height or flexibility. Michael Phelps has double jointed ankles and is 6'5, those are two very important factors that have contributed to his success. Most swimmers are 6'0 or taller. Think about it, if Michael phelps was 5'9 and not double jointed but still trained as hard as he could would he be able to beat even Ryan Lochte? Lochte is behind Phelps in most world records.
7'1 is too tall for swimming, Phelps is such a phenominal swimmer for two reasons, 1 - he trains very hard and 2nd - His body is perfect for swimming, from his total height to the length of his legs, to the webbing of his fingers and toes
An Olmpic size pool is 50 metres in length. It's about 164 ft. The taller you are the bigger advantage you have. If a swimmer that was 5'5 competed with a swimmer that was 7'1 and they trained equally hard who would logically win? You right about Phelp's body, that's the point I was trying to make to the other guy.
and if a bullfrog had wings... 17 years of intense training year round got Michael to where he is, So few people can do what it takes to swim year round.
i was there to. it was boring as hell. sitting around for 4 hours to see 3 min of swimming. i was more interested in dana vollmer, araina kukors, and rebecca soni. michael could barely even swim cause of his ankle lol
phelps won by like .1 sumthin..xD

My point is biology and your physical characteristics have a huge role to play in your development as an athelete.
Heart and Spirit alone can't make you good at a sport. If that were so, everyone who ever played a sport recreationally would be incredible at it.
