@prznt C# is a great tuning but they've only been using it since like 2004. All their stuff before hand was in drop D and E. The reason why they use C sharp is because it's right in the middle of heavy and light tunings so it's virtually perfect. Wether they may "abuse" it or not it's absolutely perfect for there sound where they don't use much gain and bass so it accents there heavy parts well. But the newest single has drop A# check it out if you haven't already.

I've figured most of them aren't heavy and I enjoy heavy music a lot so I just check out the upcoming Jrock bands from this generation. But frankly, most VK bands sound the same these days or they rip off other bands completely. I forget the band but someone stole Uroboros from Dir en grey and did a release in that name I think. It's too many bands trying to be like everyone else.

But dir en grey itself was some kind of "Kuroyume cover band" (kuroyume was important in the growing 90s visual kei business) in their early years, but theres nothing new in that fact, because visual kei (and non vk) bands nowadays abuse the compositions of old vk (and non vk) artists with plagiarism and etc. Yeah there was light music in 90s but at least some 90s bands created a basis for heavy japanese metal bands.
