  • Ok, sorry, obvously I don't follow directions well, lol. I did go to the link and read what happened. Heartbreaking. I am so sorry for your loss. I am going to ask my vet more about oroquin....even if she had a good last week, it worries me it was her last. Seems awfully coincidental to me.

  • @boghi99 There could be a lot of other things that happened. We just don't know. The EPM was probably a factor that made her more susceptible. I could guess all day what might have happened, but honestly we don't know.

  • @ceffylaedui I was reading on the Oroquin site something about some kind of drug-induced enchephalitis that is linked with EPM/EPM treatments....it is technical language so I couldn't fully understand it but I did ask my vet to ask the Oroquin people and NCState (I live in NC as well). I know she never went there but I bet they have had some experience with it.

  • @boghi99 I went back and re-read about the allergic enchephalitis mentioned on the site. It does make me wonder if Isis had that, but it was so fast between when she was normal and when she was bad (a few hours at most). Keep me posted on what you find out. The treatment really helped Isis. You can see how much she improved in the video.

  • Oh no!!! I am so sorry!! Are you sure it wasnt related to the Oroquin? It seems so strange she looked so good and then several days later she passed?? Do you mind telling me how she passed?

  • @boghi99 My vet came out for my other mare today. She noted that she didn't think that Isis' death was caused by the EPM, but rather by some brain trauma. Unfortunately we won't know because we didn't have a necropsy performed.

I'll be happy to answer any questions that you might have. Certainly pass my web page with Isis' case history on to your vet.

  • She looks much better already!! How is she doing now? are you riding her yet? My gelding is going on it next week.....

  • Hi, @boghi99. Isis did very well on Oroquin. I was very glad she was on it -- it made a world of difference for her. (Check out the video of Isis and Kasane from Oct 9 -- amazing difference!) I did get to ride her the weekend of October 9th, one week after her last dose of Oroquin. Very easy bareback trail rides, but it was such an amazing thing considering how bad she had been. I was so tickled with her.

  • @boghi99 Even though I was thrilled with how Isis did on Oroquin, I think we were simply too late. Her disease had progressed and caused brain damage or swelling or *something*. Enough that there was little to no chance she would recover. Isis left this world on October 11, 2011. (I don't think anything was related to the Oroquin, but no necropsy was done.)

  • @boghi99 YouTube isn't letting me post the URL for Isis' case history... Look in the video description for the link.
