  • Hysterical. Win.

  • Boy, there's some rabid fans here! Did you ever see The Sound of Music film? The real Maria Von Trapp intervened when Hollywood was doing the film and said most of the story was way of fact. But she was told..."Lady, this is Hollywood! We do what we like here to make the story fit our own design ideas". So, I know that ALWebber wanted to do a modern romantic and passionate musical/movie. He did just that with the movie. I love the film, Gerry Butler ,Emmy Rossum & all the young'uns in the film.

  • 0:50 and throughout the rest of the video was from Ferris Bueller's Day Off

  • @ghostflyable23 I know.

  • @TheaterRaven thats a great 80s flick btw lol

  • @ghostflyable23 Indeed, it is. It's one of my favorite movies.

  • "Lets see the gross half of your face! C'mon! Lets see the gross half of your face so I can get outta here! That nose better be piggy!"

  • horrible movie, horrible.

  • Haha, this is perfect. The lack of deformity was what I disliked most about the 2004 film. It looked like a bad sunburn, nothing more. All he needed was a little bit of aloe vera and he would've been fine.

  • ffs yeh the make up wasnt great but i've definitely seen worse. besides i love this film the music is epic and so is the story. i wasnt even paying attention to the make up lol. lon chaney's make up was amazing an still scares the hell out of me, but i feel the stage show and this film are in a different league as they are updated and musicals all 3 have thier place and deserve it. lon chaney is awesome and i so wish i could see london after midnight. shame its lost.

  • Schumacher is a hack who only gets work because he is gay.

  • Is that really gerard butler singing?

  • @tommynicks Yes, it is

  • @TheaterRaven That's Awesome!!!

  • @tommynicks I agree! I like him better than other perfomances I've heard, but the newest Phantom Ramin Karimloo sings really well in my opinion. He is a well trained stage actor, he sings in the style Patrick Wilson sings in.

  • Its really sad that make-up designed over 90 years ago is better than the make-up in the 2004 version. Chaney owns all.

  • @BillieJoesGirl06 He does indeed. Chaney is King of Phantoms. :)

  • Emmy Rossum was the best part of the movie. I don't care what anyone says...

  • Ferris Bueller. xD

  • I LOVE THIS! He really should appologise. The minute I saw the disfugerment, even the first time, I was like "Woah man. You don't really have to cover that man."

  • I also reckon given his statue, build and good acting skills

David Tennant would be a brilliant phantom !

  • My idea for the phantom would be either Johnny Depp or Gary Oldman ( both must be dubbed when singing though ).

Perhaps people should submit a dream cast as amusement

Ya never know the powers that be may take interest !

Anyone - who would your dream cast be ?

  • Another director who would have been true to the spirit and book of phantom would have been Richard Donner ( people might not agree ) on epic scale film.

  • Totally agree I never liked the phantom film

The singing was crap and it lacked atmosphere.

Tim burton would have done a better job !

  • @jaaaaaayynnee YES!!!!! A film of "Phantom" done by Tim Burton would be absolutely EPIC, especially if it stayed true to the original book.

  • @jaaaaaayynnee ooohhh i would love to see tim burton do a Phantom of the Opera. better yet they should turn Susan Kay's Phantom into a movie XD

  • That remake sucked!!! 2 hours of shitty singing!!! the 1 with Lon Chaney and it's 1940s remake didn't have singing and they were awesome

  • The make-up for this movie annoys me so much! It's basically a rash/ sunburn/ allergic reaction, NOT a disfigurement! And Joel should apologise to Chaney (who even did his own make-up). Even if he's no longer here, lol.

If a movie almost a century older than yours has more effective make-up, then you're in trouble!

  • Gerard Bulter couldn't sing, his makeup was too focused on being "realistic" to be any good.

Emmy Rossum was gorgeous and a fine singer but her acting was not good.

I hope they will sort out decent casting for the film they'll probably end up doing for the sequel

  • @ChildOfTheWilderness Agree with you about Gerard and Emmy, although I thought her acting was good. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible, either.

And I will drop a chandelier on ALW if they do a movie of the sequel. II don't even like the idea of a sequel in the first place, God forbid they make a movie of it.

  • the 2004 film not only rined the 1925 Chaney make up but also the stage version 1986 make up the libretto describes the phantom having a visible 'skull' in that and you can see from bootlegs and things (on youtube) that he has cuts and scars and all that..the 2004 make up was a disaster to both.

  • Man, even the 1920s phantom looks so much better what Schumacher made and that was before there was even sound. I guess after ruining batman he had to go ruin of the another classic charater.

  • Who were the voices at the end?

  • Alan Ruck and The Principle in Ferris Bueller's Day Off

  • If you ask me, if they should make a Funny poster of POTO, It should be the still from 1:07 with big lettering "Pardon my french, But your an ASSHOLE!"

  • You go Lon! :)

  • Whooo, Lon rocks! :)

  • Yes! Fianlly a Lon phan! My never-ending search is over!

  • Are you kidding me? Lon is AWESOME! :)

  • Who DOESN'T love Lon? Erm, besides those obsessed with the 2004 movie. I received a DVD set of the 1925 original and the 1929 remastered version. I love the movie so much (although I'm not too fond of the ending) and so do my younger cousins.

    Lon Chaney is amazing. ^_^

  • Hilarious!!! Thanks for posting! :D

  • Oh my, I laughed so hard at this! Thanks for posting, it was quite amusing! ...And true really... Good job, dearie. :D

  • We don't have to put Michaels voice into Chaneys incarnation of the Phantom. MICHAEL WAS A HELL OF A PHANTOM. Michaels acting and body language along with the make-up and his heartbreaking acting and passion were PERFECT for Phantom. I respect both Michael and Lon very much . I just don't know why Michael gets so abused by even the people that say they like him. Know other actor who has created a stage role gets as much disrespect as MC! Yet Mike is one of the nicest guys on the planet.

  • Oh, I wholeheartedly agree, I just meant that if we put Michael's voice into Lon's incarnation, it would be the perfect Phantom going by Leroux's original description. I mean, for obvious reasons of it being a live show and everything, they couldn't do a full-faced deformity with the stage Phantom. :)

  • And "abused"? That's a bit harsh, don't you think? I think Michael is a fantastic Phantom--he IS Erik--I was just saying that combining him and Lon Chaney would be interesting. I was not lucky enough to see Michael in the role, but I have seen him in concert and I can only imagine how amazing he was in the role--he becomes the Phantom in his concerts, without the costume or makeup or anything, so to see him in character in the show must have been amazing. :)

  • i've gotta say dat waz hilarous especially 1:33-1:38 i was laughing sooooo hard!!!!

Lon chaney waz an awsome phantom!!!!

  • HAHAHAHA!!!! The make-up design in 2004 th version sucks! xD Lon Chaney rocks!

  • The 2004 makeup job is ridiculous (and that's putting it lightly). :)

Lon Chaney will always be the king of Phantoms as far as makeup designs. MC's got the Phantom's voice, Lon has his looks--if we could put those two magically together, we'd have the perfect Leroux Phantom.

  • HAHAHAHA This was the last thing i expected to ever see, Cameron Phantom RULES!!

  • Thanks, haha, he's great, isn't he? :)

  • You should do more Cameron Phantom's they're awesome, BTW what song track plays in :42? I have heard it somewhere else before but i can't put my finger on it...

  • I'd like to do more--any particular scenes you'd like to see?

The bit of music that starts at 00:42 is in the movie of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"; it's the part where Rooney is answering the phone when he realizes he's talking to "Mr. Peterson" and not Ferris.

  • XD Go figure, I KNEW i heard it somewhere, and i couldn't put my finger on it!! Umm

i dunno, i like being suprised so, i guess you can do whatever,

  • I love Lon Chaney as the Phantom to but to me Michael Crawford is the King of the Phantoms "TheaterRaven". I adore Michaels acting as well as his orgasmic voice and hes a great guy offstage as well. I respect both guys a ton thought! I just wish you could be with all of Michaels fans in June in Long Beach, California. It will be awesome and MC will be there!

  • Oh, I know what you mean, colinmcphan! I love Michael's voice--it's purely angelic. I think if we could somehow put Michael's voice into Lon's incarnation of the Phantom, we'd have the perfect Phantom, because Lon has the looks as described from Leroux and Michael has the voice. And yes, I will be at the members' only event this summer. :) Can't wait for it.

  • THIS IS HILARIOUS! BRILLIANT! Lon Chaney was the best and still is and forever will be! I mean, look at that make-up job! HOLY CRAP! It still blows my mind every time I see it! He was a genius! And nothing less!

  • Thanks, and I agree, Lon Chaney is the king of Phantoms. :)

  • Amen. Lon rules. :)

  • Lon kicked all your butts and it's the 21 century not the 1920's. Look and learn from the master RIP Lon Chaney.

  • Amen! Lon Chaney is the king of Phantoms. :) If they could take Michael Crawford's voice and put it inside Chaney's incarnation of the Phantom, we'd have Erik, ladies and gentlemen. :)

. . . Well, at least, in MY opinion.

  • Hillarious.

  • Roger Ebert hit it right on the head when he said that any red blooded woman would choose the Phantom over Raul in the 04 musical. The Phantom has to be repulsive. Gerry Butler as the Phantom still is very attractive

  • He not only insulted Lon Chaney, he and Andrew Lloyd Webber insulted the musical the movie was based on. DAMN YOU BOTH!

  • Amen!

  • Yea the phantom actually looks ugly in the stage version not this bad sunburn rashed getup thats going on and i like how parts of his face that were fine before the mask came off are now sunburned!

This is a hilarious vid btw

  • @AlbinoTanuki It's Andrew's play he can take whatever liberties he wants! He did a damn good job on the film. He didn't control the makeup, Joel probably did. The point is, the distortion was not his outer appearance, it was indeed the ugliness in his heart. He was insane from being obsessed with a young woman he knew would never have him without force.

  • @JolSummerville I know the phantom's ugliness isn't just skin deep, but I just don't think looking at the movie phantom appearance wise would make him an outcast in the real world; he's just... too pretty (not to mention, his voice sucks).

  • @AlbinoTanuki I disagree ha ha, many people would stare and gawk at him, especially in today's world. I personally love his voice in this film and in PS I Love You. He did a Doors song on Leno a few months ago I think, and it was terrible. But they do say in many interviews, they were not too focused on the music in the film, Joel was more obsessed with aesthetics. I do agree that the makeup was minor but it still was enough to make many people cringe in the first place. Here's to respect!

  • @JolSummerville Pfft. He sounds like he's singing into a foghorn. Don't get me wrong, he can be a good actor of you give him the right roles, but he's DEFINITELY no singer.

  • where did the first clip come from of Gerry messing around with his makeup?

  • It's from the "Behind the Mask" documentary that's on the 2-disc DVD of "The Phantom of the Opera". It's a whole documentary done on the history of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom".

  • Thanks very much :)

  • Thank you for a good laugh. (And you too, Princess.)

  • You're welcome. :)

  • The 2004 film is miles above the Lon Chaney one. I do like the original of course but it's not better than the 2004 one. Of course the 1990 one with Charles Dance is #1!

  • Oh, yeah, the Chaney film is WAY better than the 2004 film any day! :D
