im so confused...... doesnt "post" mean after... so why is punkish music before the whole PUNK scene called post punk? shouldnt it be called pre-punk?
@toomanyangryidiots post punk formed after 1977. Punk changes though. It's basicly a term used for garage bands from the late 50s and early 60s till now. Ramons were not the first Punk Band. They were mimicking the early 60s garage rock called Garage Punk. the mod scene took over then psychedelic until the Ramons were scene at CBGBs.. magazine called them punk, Brits saw it.. took it a step farther, died in 78 when The Jam tried to revive Mod and they called it Post Punk.
@dianalee84 Well I hope what I learned is close enough. I always thought punk started in the 70s as well until older people corrected my knowledge of Punk. I wish I could have experienced CBGBs but I was maybe 9 or 10 and on the west coast at the time. to late for the 60s and too soon for the 70s
This is all Hollywood nonsense.I haven't actually seen the "Control" DVD as of yet but I suspect it's an over dramatized account of what JD and Ian really were like back in the day.I take exception to some American actor imitating Ian's vocals -so totally fake.I still own a well worn vinyl copy of "Closer" unto this day plus all their other official albums and a couple of bootlegs on CD.Sorry I sound sound so precious but I've revered them since my early teens -I'm now 40.

Well maybe you should before you come to a conclusion like that.
I got the 2 first albums, before the majors, from Factory records, on vinyls, bought at portobello and punk's market .If you want them, I can put them on youtube, as I already put them years ago on mp3 on the net.
allow me some weeks, I have no turntable working for now and my originals rips seem to be dead :(
Unfortunately I have not seen them, Melody maker was wrong on a Gig date, and we come one day late in england :(
the movie seem to be very accurate, so go get it, or dl it...

Kind of deceptive to someone who's never heard Isolation.

@jonVomit well isolation certainly isn't as clear sounding but i'd say it's close enough

Sam Riley is from West Yorkshire. He's not an American. And the movie is based on Debbie's book 'Touching from a Distance'. It's worth a watching.
