  • A touch screen! And here i was thinking our phones were the latest technology!

  • Imagine if they asked Miles to come on.

  • Oh My God! Tatyana Ali!!

  • The little girl that said her name into the Fairlight is THE Tatyana M. Ali from 'Fresh Prince of Bell Air' Fame. It was great to see the Fairlight, a bit unusual of it being on a kids show like Sesamie Street though.

  • I like that back in the day kids on sesame street were kind of dicks. That one kid on the right was totally bossing herbie hancock!

  • Hey is that Bob Lazar sitting behind Herbie lol

  • i wish i had a cmi... even though my iphone does that stuff now

  • his watch is so cool

  • And then youtube poops were born.

  • WHAT THA HELL?? AINT THAT CUTE GIRL WITH THE PURPLE SHIRT IS ASHLEY BANKS AKA TATYANA ALI FROM FRESH PRINCE OF BELL AIR??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THUMBS UP SO EVERYONE CAN READ!

  • Ten people hate Sesame Street. Disgusting!

  • U know he wanted to smash!

  • OMG ITS ASHLEY

  • Steve Horlick use to have a computer like this. Look for it in the episode "Ty's One man Band on Reading Rainbow

  • I wanted him to just start fucking with her voice and mangling the sample granularly until she cried.

  • Wow i remember seeing this when i was a kid. Awesome.

  • It 's the little girl from Fresh prince of Bel Air. Cool.

  • Happy Bday Mr. Hancock. At 71 years young, unbelievably he still looks the same. Man this was a long time ago, with Tatyana being so little then. By the way, who are the buttwipes that hit the dislike button on this? What is to dislike about this video? Stupid idiots..........

  • Jammin' on the 1.

  • What year was this anyway? I think I only saw it once as a kid, and the memory has remained vivid ever since. I remember being fascinated by what could be done with sound. (RockIt scared the crap out of me at the time)

  • @bruisedweasel I believe that this is 1985...I'm not 100% sure.

  • Herbie Hancock and Silent Slave Band!!

  • how cool is herbie hancock - he's a total dude

  • hey thats ashley banks!

  • The black child on the left looks like OMFG i want one... :)

  • Sesame Street got 2 great synth demos, first Stevie Wonder then Herbie Hancock.

  • who are the 10 assholes who "disliked" this? Herbie Hancock + Tatyana Ali = Gold.

  • i like herbie pyjama

  • Is it me or did Maria act as if those kids were hers? "You know everybody..." Ummm...other than Tatyana Ali, who are those kids?

  • Herbie's awesome :) I remember this from sesame street

  • the computer voice was sweet

i remember this one as a kid me and my brother liked herbie still do

  • Anyone know what watch that is??? I MUST HAVE IT

  • i miss a time when people had names like clive and herbie.

  • Maria's a stone-cold fox!!

  • he made tatyana ali's career in that segment...her name was repeated like 50 times...he also perved out on the lady "you know what i want you to do? play this" as he points to the "key"

  • he made tatyana ali's career in that segment...her name was repeated like 50 times...

  • Now if Dr. Teeth from "The Muppet Show" had shown up as soon as Maria and the kids left, and brought his Fender Rhodes with him....THAT would've been entertainment.

  • is the little girl at 1:36 the girl of fresh prince of bell air?

  • @Roodacris Yes,she is. Her name is Tatyana Ali.

  • Herbie & kids sooooo cute!!!

  • Awww.. look at Tatyana Ali she was soo cute

She has grown into a beautiful young woman

  • I'm surprised these kids minds didn't explode

  • @Lasse3030

what does the bildberg group have to do with this:P?

  • Synthesizers are fun things to play around with, glad Herbie shared this with the kids.

  • all I can think of is Herbie bumming Tony. Fuck.

  • boy i havnt seen this 1 in yrs

  • me encanta ver estrellas compartiendo con los niños y hacerlos sonreir,.. herbie hancock one of the best,..

  • Ever since Miles Davis gave him the Rhodes back in the cool blue age of Jazz, Herbie has taken electrical music to another galaxy. Chic Corea is the other monster.

  • Herbie is so good with the children...

  • What's with the creepy white dude in the background.

  • @Iliketoboard "Don't mind me. I'm just creepin'."

  • @Iliketoboard the white dude is controlling the sampler, Not Creepy since it was the 80s

  • @Iliketoboard

His job is to absorb Herbie's awesomeness.

  • @Iliketoboard its herbie hancock computer slave

  • Doesn't get any more old school :)

  • Tatyana was so cute then

  • Tatyana was so cute then and now she is very very sexy now

  • Side note - that table was one of the best products from Ultimate Support Stands, famous for their "A-frame" stands. I used one on stage for years, holding a Rhodes Chroma (which Herbie H also used on "Rockit" and others. This table was very flexible and handy in smaller venues. It's still in use in my studio.

  • That lttle girl who spoke her name was Ashley in the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Did anyone know that?

  • @paulwall1981 Tatyana Ali

  • @paulwall1981 im pretty sure everyone knows that but thanks anyway

  • I know that he's a legend and all, but this one sounds like Ross from Friends in that episode in which he has his own "sound".

  • 6:40 NICE BEATBOX, little boy ;)

  • Clive was assembled from the spare parts of Kraftwerk.

  • so children, as you see this synth works with that computer and this nerd.

  • Back when you had to buy a computer nerd slave with your synth

  • wish i was there

  • is that Ashly from fresh prince?

  • @j1mbafr0sty yup that's her

  • Clive is the man!!

  • I tried one of those wonderful Fairlights back in 1990 at Manny's New York! Its price was near 73 grands!!! Incredible instrument!!!...and Herbie knew it like the palm of his hand.

  • @Minimoog7

When you're the thing, you get all the stuff for free. lol

  • @ORUPRANKSTAZ Absolutely. You even get big bucks from the manufacturers for showing the gear onstage.

  • wow. thats awesome. watching kids brains just go exponential. love it. not to mention a fairlight in action with herbie!

  • That's Tatiana Ali of "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"

  • The watch is a Seiko UC-2200. It can be attached to a docking station with a full qwerty keyboard and a printer!

  • Anyone know what kind of a watch that is?

  • Awesome, Awesome!

  • so oldschool!

  • la petite tatiana ali elle me dis quelque chose, pas vous?

  • The King!!!

I wish i had a Fairlight CMI in the eighties :-)

  • tatyana ali sampled by herbie hancock ahaha great!

  • I remember being six and having such a crush on Tatayana Ali from this episode when it first aired.

  • That girl telling her name, Tatyana Ali, is the actrice playing Ashley in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

  • the little black boy knows all about it !

  • @fuckingharpsichord he was schoolin herbie, lol

  • OMG I remember this when it first happened. Then years later when Tatyana Ali was on Fresh Prince and I saw her name in the credits I put the two together ~ this is great to see it again! She hasn't changed a bit!

  • @Donlakyounomoah visit cumad11 s chanel/watch wrong birds live/is this chick corea or herbies song? has this man coppied this shit!!!

  • @Donlakyounomoah

    she hasnt changed one bit?

    growing up is not changing?

  • Now you're just splitting hairs. Her face is the same face as when she was young. Not everyone is recognizable after so many years.

  • omg I remember this! I had no idea who the guy was but it was cool! this is the guy that made the axel foley theme!

  • @coolbluelights Alex F them was actually Harold Faltermeyer.

  • @chriscoxtv ohh ok my bad :P

  • Holy crap there's the keyboard he uses. That thing is AWESOME. Such a cool computer program and hardware for that time too!

  • he is talking about the llittle girl from the fresh prince of bel aire that is her when she is little. lol

  • What year is this?

  • According to wikipedia, 1985.

  • absolute genius...thanks for the upload

  • What programs/PC did they use for the background beat, rythm? I know a video (probably the same guy sitting back behind Hancock) where the same hardware equipment is used.

  • tatianna ALI (ashly Banks)

  • i didn't know herbie hancock owned a nerdy slave background for setting his keypads up

  • I remember working with one of these in the late 80's at UMKC's Conservatory of Music. One night we sampled a variety of burps and sequenced a waltz which had us on the floor laughing so hard. Great memories

  • state of the art then and still sounds good today (Timeless) PEACE from Texas...

  • jesus doesn't love you anymore @cannabischristian!

  • amazing! a brainless nazi can write. jesus must love him!

    kid: 0_0 yea...

  • Beautifull

  • he has a nice pijama

  • ashley banks: Tatiana M. Ali.

  • lovin his watch :D

  • A wonderful synthesizer, but not nearly worth $20,000

  • So this is why I wanted a synth so bad as a kid!

  • tatyana had a little accent when she was a kid....well, she is latina and trinidadian, so it's possibly a combination of the two. io guess she had to learn how to curve it once she got in showbiz....she was so cute! :-)

  • 1984 ??

  • Hey Its Ashley!!

  • 3:24 = sick stuff !

  • Sound geeks note:

He's playing a Fairlight CMI, (Computer Musical Instrument). One of the first commercial samplers invented.

The guys who invented it started their business just down the road from me, in Darling Pt, Sydney. They called it Fairlight after the Fairlight ferry that passed their workshop, and here's Herbie Hancock playing it, amazing.

Great footage, only possible with the internet. Thanks,

  • Knew is was an Aussie that made it...didnt know why it was called Fairlight...thanks fot the GEEK info!!!!.....Aussie Aussie Aussie (had to say it)..Catch

  • make it stooop

  • only herbie could play with little kids in a room with no windows wearing a sweatsuit. Funky Bastard!

  • Too hip. But he doesn't make any of the sounds the kid on the end asks to hear. And did you really need somebody else sitting by a computer to use a sampler back in 1984?

  • @mvkean the only reason the other guy is there is so he can bring up the sounds and effect thats herbie is talking about as he is talking about them so that he doesnt waste time doing it himself. the fairlight was intended for one person to use

  • Probably not. The guy with the glasses was probably his "programmer". Seems like a lot of keyboardists hired people just to program their synths and samples, because apparently it was too complicated for them to do it themselves. I've forgotten who it was who said that if spent all his time programming his synths, he wouldn't have time to make music.

  • _WELL THAT FIGURES.. //it's funny that today it won't take anymore ,rather than a 12 jrs old plus a cheap pc sme ripped musicsoftwareZ(wich not implies ..that i'd evr'd do such thing as..)..but seeing this really prooves for me in my case : TV IS A VERY BIG INFLUENCE _EVEN IF YOU AIN'T ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THIS AS AN EIGHT JEAR OLD //herbie was one of thzose who really draught me into electronic music[..but i'd nevr in a lifetime will get even close to his jazzy_SKILLLZ!] he is an awesome musician

  • Cool, thanks for posting man Herbie Hancock on Sesame Street. Awesome.

  • @DaSkullBoyz lovin #HerbieHancock

  • oh my fucking good :O

  • awesome <3 herbie

  • Fairlight CMI

  • write in wikipedia Tatyana_Ali and see...

  • Awe

    som

    e

  • That woman's last line made me chuckle:"Say goodbye to Herbie Hancock!". How often do yo hear that?

  • she looks bomb now

  • Man kids were easily amused back then.

  • That's because they were not so spoiled and fucked up!

  • I was enjoying this, until the little general opened his mouth...

p.s. I'm rapped to see my favourite musician is a soft spoken gentleman...as apposed to his mentor

  • mjnin vfy

  • That computer monitor has some old school midi software! :D

  • @macjsus

Yeah but wasn't the top-of-the-line when it was made?

It was not old school at all back then.

  • I don't doubt that for a second! At my school when I took AP Music Theory/Composition, we had a lab of all Windows 95, and they all worked great.

  • @macjsus

Buddy this was 1984! WAY before windows 95!

  • Yeah I know, just saying just because somethings old doesn't mean it doesn't work well.

  • @macjsus

Yes. I know what you were saying. I agree.

  • Man they had to get politically correct kids? Asian, White, Black , and two are boys two are girls. lol

  • hahahahahha yeah you re right

  • Sesame Street was always like that, from the beginning. The whole point was to make the cast as integrated as possible. Same thing with the adults...you had Latinos, blacks, white people all living in the same neighborhood. And they also had a deaf woman on the show too during the late 70's.

  • omg i tot it's one piece hancock lol

  • tatatatatatatatatatatatiana ali lililililililililililililililililili

  • Woah! Tatyana Ali! Ashley from Fresh Prince!

  • man them kids r fake

  • seasme street! w00t

  • tatiana ali was in fresh prince of bell air

  • Ok the technology is out of date. that's what happens dudes, things progress and the stuff ur hung up on now will be, like, full of fail in a coupla years. BUT the dude with the fast hands and talent will always rock da house and be ftw.

  • Exactly. Machines cannot replace talent, but are used by talented people. Herbie Hancock for the win.
