i agree it does so like a 787B but itsa r20b rotor not the r26b but still you cant really tell the differences butdammif iheard thatcomeing downmy street or any punk ass ricer around were i live oh boy they better hold on
@spvensko It's a four-rotor engine built out of 12A components, rather than 13B. Displacement comes to 2,292cc by Mazda's calculation methods, but since it's made out of 12A parts, it's called a 24A. The four-rotor R26B found in the 787B race car shares modular dimensions with the 13B, so its displacement comes to a comparatively massive 2,616cc, again using Mazda's numbers.
@foxydj2012 hey did you know the pistons were triangle shaped instead of being circle? yeah and the cams are triangle shaped also, so they open 3 times once every cycle. That's why it sounds so agressive on a WANKEL ENGINE!
I SO WANT THAT CAR!!! And the righthand-side steering wheel and everything is just perfect in Thailand where I spend more than half the year. I think I'll buy one in Japan and import it to Thailand! The sound alone is enough almost, but they're great cars otherwise too! : )
I'm one of the biggest rotor heads around. The rotary displacement wars needs to stop. Mazda rates the displacement of each cylinders volume per 1 combustion event per housing. That means a 1.3L rotary will MOVE 1.3L of air for every e-shaft rotation. A 1.3L rotary will also MOVE 2.6 liters of air for every two rotations of the e-shaft. That's why in competition it's comparable to a 2.6L piston. The numbers don't lie. A 13b based 4 rotor moves 5.2L of air for every 2 rotations of the e-shaft.
..."Sounds awesome when revved up, but listen to how it sounds like it took a dump down low. That's what it would sound like most of the time on the street. "...
I want to go to Japan and import one of these to Thailand. They drive on the wrong side of the road here too, so it's a perfect Thailand-car for me. I think I'd fire it up at times just to enjoy the fantastic sound.: )
Torque is acceleration. And the only way one of these runs in the 6's is with forced induction. I don't care if the race is downhill there is no way 600hp is capable. Well over 1000hp is needed. Turbos make a ton of torque thats why little engines use them.
@07speed3guy Yes and no... Torque is what pushes/forces the car through a gear in a given amount of time. If an engine assembly is easier to rev, it will pull through a gear faster. Try this experiment: Take two of the exact same car, equip one with 40 more hp by any means necessary. Now take the second car and lighten the rotational assy with pulleys, a flywheel, and lighter wheels. The two cars will be just as fast as one another, and possibly the lightened one edging out the other...
I am the small engine big power guy. Haven't owned anything but. I would give my left nut to own a car that sounds like this. I just dislike when people have their ideas and are stuck in them. I love power in all its forms.
@07speed3guy this engine (the 26B) regardless of being a little low on torque (I think it's something like 428 NM (whatever that is in ft lbs) is like a freight train. This motor is an exception to the displacement rule. At 500hp, each rotor develops 125 hp, versus a V8, where each piston produces 63 hp. Lighter, more powerful / cubic inch = winning combination.
Again, the engine is 2.4L. And if you search out "rotary power" you'll see 1.2L engines running low to high 6's on the 1/4 mile. So I wouldn't ever put all my money on torque unless I was betting on a tractor pull.
@zebatov I know your comment is old but where is there a 12A pulling 6's in the quarter?? Sounds like you made that up considering the world record is like 6.5 ish on a 20b turbo making like 1500 hp. Just sayin
I saw it on here a while ago. I didn't make that up. It's a beasty tuned engine. I know of a guy (heard of him on the internet, but my friends know him) from the Vancouver area who has an 890 hp 13b. That was a while ago so it might even be almost 1000hp now. So I don't think a 1.2L engine would have much problem doing about the same.
Not quite. The rotary lags the torque. even if it makes 500hp it is still only 2.6 liter. Which means it doesnt make the torque of a V8. As they say, No replacement for displacement.
well that fact is that a V8 is piston powered, v.s. the wankler still engine. it's just the physics behind both. But the would you think that a littler engine producing more power would be nicer?
@07speed3guy Don't get me wrong though, I love displacement, M5's, RS6's, C-GT's, R8's, Gallardo's, Enzo's, Corvettes, Vipers, but I can't help but love the rotary for it's simplicity, versatility, and raw power. What other engine can you modify in so many ways to get so many combinations of power, and usefulness. 13b, 20b, 26b, all made from the same parts....essentially.
@ghoulunaticzdylan A piston engine fires every other rotation. So a 12 cylinder fires 6 times per rotation. The four rotor fires 12. So at 8000 rpm the rotary sound like a 12 cylinder at 16000
@ghoulunaticzdylan A piston engine fires every other rotation. So a 12 cylinder fires 6 times per rotation. The 4 rotor fires 12. So at 8000rpm it sounds like a 12 cylinder at 16000
@ghoulunaticzdylan A 4 cycle fires every other rotation. So a 12 cylinder fires 6 times. The 4 rotor fires 12 times and turns 8000rpm. twice as many combustion events as Steve Matchet says.
Basically what he said is that they sound like they're reving higher than they are. And no, most rotaries redline at 8. With p-port they'll redline at 9-10k rpm.
Yeah, I'm sure the guys that dyno the Scoot Motorsports vehicles are complete idiots... Why don't you show them how to do it properly in your well established performance shop.
@sc62391 Yes, it sounds like it's running at a much higher rev than it actually is..that's because a rotary fires on every revolution and this one fires four times every revolution. The ignition/crank is offset exactly 90 degrees between each rotor, so you get an extremely even and high-pitched sound. Like I said, it's like music!: )
Except for the 787b which fires 3. Which is a 4 rotor engine itself. This engine (a 4 rotor, obviously) is made up of 2 12a's. Which fire twice, as you said.
I'm confused. The first time you said a rotary engine fires twice per rotor per each revolution. That's correct for three turns of the e-shaft and one turn of the rotors in a 13b, regardless of them being offset 90 degrees.
Now you've said "3 times per revolution". That would imply to me you are talking about a 20b.
In the 787b 4 rotor engine, there are 3 spark plugs per housing. Therefore the engine fires 3 times each rotor revo for a total of 12 times per e-shaft revo.
Whoaaa ok I see why you told me that the 787b's engine fires 3 times per revolution.. When I said a rotary engine fires twice per revolution per rotor, I meant to say a power stroke. I did not mean anything in relation to the spark plugs. You are totally right that the 787b's engine has 3 plugs per rotor, while a factory production Mazda rotary has 2 spark plugs per cylinder. To my knowledge, all Mazda rotary engines have 2 power strokes per revolution per rotor.
They made it this way so they wouldn't have to put a huge ugly wing on it. Basically instead of a big over sized wing to keep the rear wheels planted, they used a big over sized diffuser. It's not too bad, kinda makes it look like a Mercedes though. Sounds amazing.
its sorta not an Rx7 at all. its a brand new chassis made by Scoot, and what they have done to it is added more rotors to the engine. if i knew more about rotaries id explain. And as it says in the title it has 4 Rotors
Oh ok I see. I've never heard of Scoot and I saw RX-7 in the video info so i just assumed. I know roughly how a rotor engine works but if you tried to explain the intricate details I would probably be totally lost. I will have to look up these guys ;)
Reading some of these comments, I love how every asshole who doesnt have a clue about a rotary engine, has never worked on them IS ALWAYS THE GOD DAMNED EXPERT on the subject LOLOL these fucking people

Rear end is Damm ugily, orginal RX is far prettier!!!

They made it this way so they wouldn't have to put a huge ugly wing on it. Basically instead of a big over sized wing to keep the rear wheels planted, they used a big over sized diffuser. It's not too bad, kinda makes it look like a Mercedes though. Sounds amazing.

That's an RX-7??? What have they done to it?? That kit looks amazing! ..if that's what it is.
scrustle 2 years ago 2
its sorta not an Rx7 at all. its a brand new chassis made by Scoot, and what they have done to it is added more rotors to the engine. if i knew more about rotaries id explain.
