@chen94oi - Well, aside from the lack of proper infrastructure, the entire premise around traveling to Chau Doc is a big scam. Desperate Vietnamese people spend their hard earned money to go to a temple to worship a lady that clearly is failing to live up to her hype. There are too many beggars and people in poverty just standing around outside of the temple- yet the goddess' mystique can barely afford to throw them a bone.
@burgernuds Look at all the people who don't believe in superstition and see how successful they are. The whole thing is too commercialized to be anything "religious" or "spiritual". I would never recommend this place to any visitors to Vietnam, especially because there are so many other unique cities well worth the time over this pretty pedestrian place.
@burgernuds i feel bad for the poor people, i don't have anything against them. but i'm Christian xD so i agree with you on the temple part. and i agree that people DO spend too much money on that and can't even afford to be helpful enough to give them a DOLLAR even cuhz i saw a video of these people to vietnam, it broke my heart </3 hahah oh well, no matter what, i love my hometown regardless (: thanks for sharing, bud (:
@chen94oi I'm going to be teaching English and hopefully I'll reside somewhere along the coast. Hopefully, Vung Tau or maybe the Central Highlands if they can pay me well enough. I'm purposely avoiding Saigon because I'm afraid of big cities.
@burgernuds omg that's so nice! i went to vung tau there when i was like...idk hahah real little; had a horrible time:P but now i'd love to go again:) and awh, hahha what do you not like about saigon ? personally, i think it's beautiful! and oh(: i thought so (: haha, you seem like an english teacher o_o
@chen94oi Great, I hope you get to come back to visit soon. If I can survive staying in Vietnam for longer than a month, feel free to visit me. I don't really consider myself an English teacher yet. I'm more like a recent college graduate with nothing better to do. hahahahaha
