Um you know if you scratch or head BEFORE a relaxer, then you're gonna burn.DUH. Pointblank Period. You're gonna burn when you get a relaxer. Base or not. When I use to get relaxers,my mom just use to relaxed my hair. And guess what IT STILL BURNED!. My mom is a licensed hairdresser and hairdressers do what good for the health of your hair.Just because you want a trim doesn't mean that is good for your hair. The hair might be damaged and needs to be cut.Dont be ignorant. It's not a good look on you.
being that i am a licensed stylist i must say to things one i heard you say nothing about what she did before your relaxer. was your scalp based. was it in the summer time and you were sweating all of these things have an effect on your scalp and the relaxer process. and both among other things can cause you to burn. and i think that you are partly to blame for this your first service with a new stylist should never be a harsh chemical you should see there work first.

This is a really long video, that take a way too long to get to the point. And a hair cut causes permanent hair damage? This video is very confusing. I understand that the author had issues, but I think there was a better way to tell this story.
Thats really ridiculous but everyone has to and will know that beauty is purely trial and era, so i defiantly know how you feel but im at a point glad it happened because it happened at a time my hair was short, so what if my hair was long and i decided to do what i did, so shake it off and do what you gotta do :)
Not every licensed hair dresser is stupid, or thinks they know everything. Thats why you ask questions. I'm a hair dresser myself, and yes this story sucks..and it does happen...but thats why you need to be careful who you trust with chemicals near your head. and not to mention, YOU KNOW THE RISKS. so its not nessicarly all the hair dressers fault. you were informed.
@lovekisses011 I extremely agree with you! hair dressers work very hard for that "little license " I'm a hair dresser as well and I have fixed multiple haircuts that people tried to do them selves at home. And I have done many relaxers and never burned anyone's scalp like that. It's sad that because of that experience she thinks all hair dressers are stupid and don't know what their doing

lmfao! Haha hahaha! This shit is funny! I'm sorry about your bad salon experience but the way you explain the whole situation is hilarious! And the whole "I've never experienced such pain in my life, & believe me I've experienced some pain" comment was funny as hell! I have to agree, us women can experience & most have experienced intensive pain, so I know you ain't talking lightly when you say "it hurt like the devil" lmfao! Well I hope your feeling better. :D
Well maybe she accidently put it to close to the scalp. And you could of been very having a reaction to the relaxing solution. I wouldnt blame her. And yeah alot of people dont really get relaxers cause alot of people who are "Black" Do their own relaxers. It doesnt happen in the salon often. Your freaking out over nothing. And i am a liscenced hair dresser and we do not show off our liscence. We know what we are talking about. Quit complaining.
I went to a professional hair stylist about 2 years ago. The perm she used burnt my scalp very badly and didn't even straighten my hair. After that my hair just wasn't right anymore. I cut the damaged ends off and would even deep condition. Finally I just went natural, and pot holes (bald spots) finally are growing. Maybe the chemicals were stunting the growth in some way Idk...but I am happy with my hair now =}
And that's exactly why i learned to do my own hair. After i had a stylest cut all my beautiful healthy hair off after 3 years of cultivating & growing it, i vowed never again would i ever let anyone touch my hair again.
im young not like kitty young but im a teenager. i get perms. my hair is healthy. i dont like wen people are one sided. i love people with natural hair but mines was too much to handle for the way i wanted to wear it as a 10yr old(straight down) so around 10 and 1 half, i got it permed. just my edges the first time but after some more months a real perm. now if u love ur natural hair fine. but dnt b all DONT PERM UR HAIR UP WITH NATURAL, without saying that with proper education u can were perms
I had this same thing happen to me when i got my FIRST relaxer :( SMH i cried soo much and everyone in the salon was just looking at me with pity in their eyes not doing or saying nothing. I was eighteen at the time and knew NOTHING about a relaxer, didn't even want one but felt pressure to do it by a friend. Right now i am transitioning back to my natural roots and educating myself on proper hair care :)
did you scratch your scalp within 24 hours of getting the perm because if you did then you only have yourself to blame .... because you scratched away the layer of dead skin cells that helps prevent chemical burns ... the only time I got a "scab burn" is when I scratched.
Sorry to hear this all happened.. that Lic. hair dresser may have been just plan jealous of long hair.. and had other personal problems with women. I understand I had problems for years in California with hair dressers who cut too much, put to strong perms on my hair and putting the relaxer on already relaxed hair..
Don't pick at the scabs....you are absolutely right! This is the healing process! Plus when you pick at them you greater your chances of getting a nasty infection!!!!!!!!! Use a q-tip with perioxde and gentle rub the scabs if you have irritation.
As a licensed stylist. You don't have to use a base when applying a relaxer, but it is best 4 protection The relaxer is applied on the hair not the scalp. The stylist you went to was not experienced at all. It sounds like you received a really bad deal. Sea breeze should never be applied immediately after the relaxer is rinsed out, you should have a neutralizing shampoo rinsed several times to stop the chemical reaction, then a calming salution applied to the hair then slowly add sea breeze.
I understand aloe vera gel is good for damaged scalp caused by relaxers. I did the big chop yesterday. I'm completely bald. Believe me, it took GUTS. But I just could not be bothered to take the time to try and repair my damaged hair in order to achieve natural healthy hair. I'm now wearing a wig and will continue to do so for the next two years. I wondered if using Vit E Oil and Aloe Vera Gel will repair my scalp even though these burns are years old. Any help would be appreciated!
I've been getting my hair relaxed since I was 9? 10? Anyway, a couple of years ago I guess the frequent relaxers caught up with me 'cause I had such bad damage that I had to shave off my shoulder length hair. Yes, I said shave. I stupidly returned to relaxers a few months after. Last year my hair started breaking off badly and I just decided enough was enough. Decided no more perms and no more heat. I'm hitting month 10 now and couldn't be happier. It's difficult at times, but worth it.
When I was younger my mom took me to get a relaxer. It didnt take at all she ended up putting two in my hair! My right hand. I kid you not. So from that point on, I started perming my own hair. But then I went natural last year. But I only go to the salon for trims.
I've had people with liscense burn my hair out with the flat iron. I also had issues with relaxers too so where they would use child relaxers and even that was too strong for my hair. I gave up and went Natural but I am loving my natural hair.
I rember about 3 years ago I had long loucious natural hair....so i decieded i wanted a relaxer and i went i got one but then i went n cut my hair accidentally so i went to my hair stylist and she cut my hair she cut it right off to ear length and about a year later it grew back my same length and she goes and cut it again be cause she SAID it still wasn't even so after she cut it I LEFT HER AND NEVER WENT BACK
@booksmart8.......lol ....no it wasn't but I'm a mean person and in today's world you have to be...... nice only gets you walked all over and taken advantage of....... if I were nice or veiwed this vid and not made fun of her than she would only feel it was ok to make more vids of here stupid hair exp's and continue to breath into the mic.....she tagged it on some way to make it pop up while I'm looking at video of a totally opposite nature just so ppl would watch the stupid video.....she needs
@shellLV......awwww.....the mouth breathing fatty is mad cause I called her out......shut up you whiny little tard......you have no idea how to use a mic.......saying you almost died and she should have just killed you is an ignorant way to describe what you felt and finally calling someone out because of grammar on a YouTube comment is fucking retarded......I'm not writing a formal essay or applying for a job you moron.....don't come at me because you have no idea how to correctly tag a video
People thats says it was her own fault are just mean. She was about 13 or 14. No one things of asking the hairdresser if shes good at what se does or something when you are a teenager. HALLO!!! It was a normal relaxer that she had done before, so why whould she questioned it now?!!!
I wonder if it was mizani. I know other people like Miznani, but I can not use Mizani because it burns me the same way that you discribe even with a base. And I used the sensitive scalp.I always get scabs with or without base, so I have started to do my own hair because when my body hurts, I stop doing what ever hurts me and rise it out. When someone can't feel your pain, they don't know when enough is enough.
no disrespect but maybe you should of ask more questions before you sat in the salon chair if you didnt know much about the stylist.every one makes mistakes you should of been clear with her or any other stylist on their experence.......
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
let me tell you a story........there was a lady who made a stupid YouTube video but had no concept of how a mic worked......so during the whole video she breathed into the mic so everyone knew how fat She was and how out of breath she got from just talking........there's nothing worse in vid than someone breathing in a mic......learn to use a mike rere......
@Flomoshn There's nothing worse than a person with absolutely no comprehension of correct grammar. Way to try to take a dig at someone while showing just how ignorant you are, bb.
Everyone has up to 3 different textures to their hair. She should have based your scalp with oil, seen where your hair was weak, and gave you treatments so your hair was nice and strong before any perm was applied. Always use olive oil on the hair even with a perm - the oil helps the perm to get out, your hair is softer ...with proper handling, your hair is beautiful. Mine is down my back. My hair is stronger in the back. I don't perm the rest until the last 1 minute (total is about 3 min)
Ignorance in the hair styling industry is shocking! I always do my own research on everything and I enrolled in a cosmeotogly class at a local community college and the instructor was doing things that I knew better than to do just by reading and searching websites! I take care of my own hair and like Shima, only go to hairdressers for special occassions
I don't get perms, but I know you aint suppose to put that shit right on the scalp. I wouldn't be surprised if the woman who did your hair was envious. Don't let any and everybody put their hands in your hair unless you trust them with your life because hair is very sacred.
lool wow that hairdresser has clearly affected you thank you for the awareness now , now i know that its no joke to be serious with hair relaxer ty for the story
I had a very similar incident at a Dominican Salon, believe it or not in NY City. The pain was atrocious. My hair was on fire too, left with scabs. Luckily my hair did not fall out! I rarely go to the hairdressers, don't trust them. My hair is plentiful but with very fine strands, unusually delicate. Which I have been told is very rare. I notice they don't have mild formula for perms. Why is that? My hair is mid-shoulders. My goal is to my waist and then maybe longer!
I use seabreeze to clean my scalp in my weave but why would a hairdresser use it on the scalp after you complained of your head being on fire?? what? A hairdresser would never used that on your scalp either because they have other things like waterless shampoo to use on you.
check out my hair journey like no other.....i have permanent scalp damage. I had a sew in and it LITERALLY ripped my scalp open. And now I cant find a lawyer to take my case :(
i stick to texturizers nd if i want it straight i jus straightn it...if i wanna rock my curls i juss wet my hair and my hair is as healthy as ever!!!!
Ok i take serious offense to this. I've had my lisence for 2 years and i've never had any accidents. Those accidents are caused by careless cosmetologists, you can't blame over cosmetologist for the carelessness of one
Damn did you have to put my man MJ in your video! I can't believe we're coming up on his two year anniversary....SIGH, I wish I could bring him back. But yeah, I'm terrified to go to a stylist now to my relaxers and even wash my hair. I had two major setbacks b/c I had "professionals" do my hair and they hate when you tell them what to do. I know more about hair care then they do. It's just that my hair never comes out looking as good as when they do it but it's still healthy and almost BSL
why dont you ladies just go natural? stop depending on a relaxer to cover up who you are. and dont depend on a stylist to put unsafe chemicals in your hair that shouldnt be in there anyway. gosh.
@shyshybaby08 i think black hair is beautiful but hard to maintain. i have very thick hair. sometimes its just easier 2 let someone else take care of your hair especially if they suppose 2 b professionals.
@NiyaT17 there's a way to overcome that. it just takes time in finding a way to handle it. my hair is entirely too thick but i finally found the right products that make my hair really soft and tangle free.
@shyshybaby08 Everyone has the right to do what they want to do with their hair. That's why it's THEIR hair. I'm natural and I won't look down on someone who chooses to stay/be relaxed. Natural hair is definetly something you have to really want to do
i love your videos, you speak the truth in them.i use to have hair past my butt even when i got a prem it still stayed long.then i got a bad prem a prem i didn't want in the first place and all my hair broke off. right now its sorta past my sholders but in the very back, one section refuses to grow.i'm a african american girl with thick wavy hair. all my prem is gone.if i could just grow the back out to the same lengh as the front i'd be happy.i'm always looking at videos for advise on it.
well I am a licensed cosmetologist and in this profession u r 2 always ask the client of previous chemical procedures......if she did not ask then that was unprofessional of her....allllll hairstylist r not bad......their r those that work to make money and there r those like me that study my profession.....thanks
I went to a hair dresser for the first time last year at age 19 I cut off all my hair into a pixie cut, it was really nice but she insisted I needed a perm and it HAD to be done at a salon. Usually my mom perms my hair really well with Organic Roots stimulator perm kit. But this ladie insisted my mom wasn't doing it right. I had her perm it and she burnt out the nape of my neck I had headaches for days. I'm never going to a salon again the roots of my hair were brittle & the edges broke off ALOT
Omg. This happened to me one time. I was getting a relaxer and i notice the "stylist" didnt put the base/oil on and just applying the perm. I asked her and she said, Oh we dont have any more. What????? You cant be serious! This is a salon! Ur applying a chemical to my hair what do u mean? Smh. I will never let her touch my hair again.
This happened to me, and I had 2nd degree chemical burns on about 20% of my head. So deep, my scalp was oozy and I could not unwrap my hair the next morning,as it was stuck in the scabs. Didn't lose hair, thank God. My scalp is pretty strong and pulled through it. But it was excruciating. Turns out there was no base applied and it was medium strength. When I used to relax, I only needed a kiddie perm and it could come off almost as soon as it was applied cause my kinks relaxed very quickly.
im a new subscriber and i wanted to now do you ever get your hair cut or trimmed.i know thats also one of the key things that realy helps your hair grow longer and sometimes faster.
One of my best friends had a beautician and she did relaxers/hair out of her home. She always had ppl come over and she would do their hair and my friends hair was always laid out so I went to have my hair done. Prior to this I always did my own relaxer. That day she did my hair her daughter got sick and trying to tend to her and my relaxer, obviously she didn't rinse very well. A wk later my hair started to break off. This also happened @ a shop b4 too. That was it 4 me! No more relaxers
So, you recommended that people apply chemicals to their own hair as opposed to letting a licensed professional do it. That is the dumbest thing ever.
I got burnt eleven years back and the middle of my head is sensitive to date.Crazy woman doing my hair used super strength instead of regular and refused to listen when I told her it was burning.I got three weeks of headaches and all gross sorts of discharge.Thank God my hair grew back.I learned the hard way
what is it with some female hair stylist that either burn your hair with a relaxer or go scissor crazy? about 7 years ago, i asked a hair stylist to trim my ends and you know what she did? she trimmed it alright....she took off 5 inches!!! talk about wanting to "trim" her!
exactly, which is why i don't go to salons, and if and when i do, it is to a male hairdresser, i had a hair dresser burn my hair with a relaxer that I didn't asked for. fried my hair and had to cut it off and let it grow back. i was about 18 when this happened. never allowed women in my head after that. thank goodness my hair grew back as the stuff did not get placed on my scalp.
relaxers aren't supposed to burn period, if they do burn it means they've come in direct contact with your scalp. if you ever experience any burning, you should tell the stylist ASAP!
my hair dresser gave me migraines for one week and my entire scalp got burn so i got scabs. I had to be constantly oiling my scalp to sooth the itching, now am perming my hair on my own
I am a licensed hairstylist and my most important focus is healthy hair. I make it a habit to base my clients' scalp before a chemical relaxer application. I want minimal exposure and discomfort during their visit. If there is a noticable problem with their hair, I will deny any chemical service. I dod not cut my clients hair too short; I trim the hair unless they specific that they are there for a hair cut. I care; I have to sleep at night so I try to maintain my integrity. God bless you all.
shima good points about the picasso comments as some hairdressers don't know when to stop with the damn scissors, i let one girl cut my hair too short and i wanted to strangle her, it took a year to get my hair back to neck length and never again will i allow it to happen.
Women must set the pace the minute the step in the chair, tell their hairdresser don't cut my hair just trim it that is all.
@tanio12 I totally understand what you mean, when I was about 13yrs I went by a hairdresser to take out the braids, my hair was never shorter than shoulder length, however after that visit it was ear length. It took me 5yrs after a full hair cut i did myself before my hair started to grow as it did previously (I guess her hand didn't agree with my hair). So now I trim my hair, and like Shima, I only go to hairdresser to style nothing else as my hair is natural and i intend to keep it that way
And this person was Licensed.......wwwooow. You never ever apply SeaBreeze to your if you plan on getting a relaxer (with or without the base). She should be sued. I only use SeaBreeze if I have a itchy scalp or dandruff. Not before or after the relax. Besides it says it on the bottle too not to combine in any way. You wait 24 to 48 hours. Sorrt this happened to you. You should post her information.
I've heard hairdressers do this to ppl too. My mother told me she knew of one that every time this particular person came to get their hair done, this hairdresser would go to the bathroom before she did this woman hair. She come out and immediately start doing this woman's hair. My mom said she think she would go in there and pee on her hand or something. Because that woman had long hair, but it eventually fell out.
@trecey920 sometimes the hairdresser is jealous of your hair....and believe it or not in your gut you tend to sense this. So, for me at least, if the hairdresser's hair is not like yours (as healthy or long) try not to go by this person to do your hair, chances are you'll regret it
@meowlips thx for commenting back on my comment. I don't go to them. I used to couldn't afford to keep going. The person that I was going to was great I didn't have no problems with her. However, you got a very good point.
@NiKKiBSEXCii so true, so true. Or at least educate themselves on what to expect, and the right and wrong of hair care. Also, viewing the stylist at work before putting your hair in their hands.
I had the same thing happen to me, which is why I do my hair at home now. Now I know what my grandmother meant when she said that hairdressers beautify the hair, but don't make it grow.
Not only are they supposed to strand test, but apply the relaxer at least 1/2 of an inch away from the scalp before full application. Either that or she did not give you the right type of relaxer or didn't properly analyze your hair and scalp. She could have been sued.
she wasn't jealous. what she should have done was a strand test. I'm a hairdresser so i know that is the protocal. she was to busy trying to rush u out to make more money with the next client. she was giving u proper attention. smh sorry that happened to u.
I have eczema and I tried a perm at 12. And my hair fell out so bad. My hair and my mother side of the family hair has never been too thick My mother has soft 3c hair and she really does not need one. My hair is more 4a and 4b but it was already thin it just the way my hair is so I did not need a perm anyway. But after getting perms, getting those scabes and breakage i grew my hair back out natural a year later. I was so smart for that. Now my hair is to my shoulders.
@Arlenienj LOL, I know and Im trying to take care of my hair alot better now.. LOL I dont want you to think im weird but you have a very beautiful spirit ..Im a spirtual person and your spirit is so gentle, hopeful and courageous.. (: Congrats on your hair growth so much is more to come (:
Um you know if you scratch or head BEFORE a relaxer, then you're gonna burn.DUH. Pointblank Period. You're gonna burn when you get a relaxer. Base or not. im young not like kitty young but im a teenager. i get perms. my hair is healthy. i dont like wen people are one sided. i love people with natural hair but mines was too much to handle for the way i wanted to wear it as a 10yr old(straight down) so around 10 and 1 half, i got it permed. just my edges the first time but after some more months a real perm. now if u love ur natural hair fine. but dnt b all DONT PERM UR HAIR UP WITH NATURAL, without saying that with proper education u can were perms

Right now i am transitioning back to my natural roots and educating myself on proper hair care :)
sweetandsour365 2 months ago
did you scratch your scalp within 24 hours of getting the perm because if you did then you only have yourself to blame .... because you scratched away the layer of dead skin cells that helps prevent chemical burns ... the only time I got a "scab burn" is when I scratched.

Sorry to hear this all happened.. that Lic. hair dresser may have been just plan jealous of long hair.. and had other personal problems with women. Don't pick at the scabs....you are absolutely right! This is the healing process! Plus when you pick at them you greater your chances of getting a nasty infection!!!!!!!!! Use a q-tip with perioxde and gentle rub the scabs if you have irritation.
tythestylist 3 months ago
As a licensed stylist. You don't have to use a base when applying a relaxer, but it is best 4 protection The relaxer is applied on the hair not the scalp. The stylist you went to was not experienced at all. It sounds like you received a really bad deal. Sea breeze should never be applied immediately after the relaxer is rinsed out, you should have a neutralizing shampoo rinsed several times to stop the chemical reaction, then a calming salution applied to the hair then slowly add sea breeze.

@tythestylist I agree with you, I am a licensed cosmetologist. But you should always talk to your stylist to make sure you both are on the same page.

I know more about hair care then they do. It's just that my hair never comes out looking as good as when they do it but it's still healthy and almost BSL

What????? You cant be serious! This is a salon! Ur applying a chemical to my hair what do u mean? Smh. I will never let her touch my hair again.
luv2lukgood 9 months ago
This happened to me, and I had 2nd degree chemical burns on about 20% of my head. So deep, my scalp was oozy and I could not unwrap my hair the next morning,as it was stuck in the scabs. Didn't lose hair, thank God. My scalp is pretty strong and pulled through it. But it was excruciating. Turns out there was no base applied and it was medium strength. When I used to relax, I only needed a kiddie perm and it could come off almost as soon as it was applied cause my kinks relaxed very quickly.

God bless you all.
childofgod99 1 year ago 3
shima good points about the picasso comments as some hairdressers don't know when to stop with the damn scissors, i let one girl cut my hair too short and i wanted to strangle her, it took a year to get my hair back to neck length and never again will i allow it to happen.
Women must set the pace the minute the step in the chair, tell their hairdresser don't cut my hair just trim it that is all.
tanio12 1 year ago

Because that woman had long hair, but it eventually fell out.
trecey920 1 year ago
@trecey920 sometimes the hairdresser is jealous of your hair....and believe it or not in your gut you tend to sense this. So, for me at least, if the hairdresser's hair is not like yours (as healthy or long) try not to go by this person to do your hair, chances are you'll regret it

Not only are they supposed to strand test, but apply the relaxer at least 1/2 of an inch away from the scalp before full application. Either that or she did not give you the right type of relaxer or didn't properly analyze your hair and scalp. She could have been sued.
