Well, Hitler killed 6 million Jews because he felt he was superior, Hirohito killed 8 million Chinese to expand his empire, Stalin killed over 5 million Ukrainians to "cleanse" his society. Ethics are something that are taught by society, they are a result of peer pressure and success.

That's what's so good about them, they can improve over time, unlike "the word of God" which is actually just a snapshot of the ethics of the time in which humans wrote them down, incorrectly believing their morals were insurpassable.

Ethics are not always taught by society. How does peer pressure teach ethics? lol, it does the exact opposite. Ethics are only taught in upper class families or functional families (we have a 50% divorce rate so those are quite uncommon).

Society applies peer pressure which dictates morality. For example in the UK if you say you aborted your child at 36 weeks term people will be horrified, but aborting it at 4 weeks many won't be. That's an example of society forming morality.

There is a time in the future in which religion will start to do more harm than good because of intellectual growth, BUT THIS ISN'T IT.

Everyone in power in at least the U.S. abuses it. The ends justify the means in this country. Credit card companies charging huge interest rates and hidden fees, trying to get people into debt. All our actions overseas in the last century have been paving the road to our destruction at the expense of millions of lives.

Those who aren't satisfied with material wealth seek POWER. The human life needs a purpose, when it doesn't have one (religion teaches that purpose of life is to worship), it goes after what it thinks purpose is only to be proven wrong.

The only people that have mastered living without a religion though, is the Asians; the Japanese in particular. Their culture revolves around finding one's niche and devoting his life to it, whatever it may be. Here in the U.S. we seek MONEY, and only that.

A religious group might give them the support they need, but that support is available outside of religious groups (and better too).

Usually it is their desire to change their life that leads them to religion, and not religion that leads them to the desire to change their life.
