They have a unique and consistent style. It's what I like about MTB. Plus, look at how much energy they put into the song, when the song itself sounds so relaxed and mesmerizing....it's amazing.

For me minus the bear's double handed taping and dl-4 and other pedal action is really unique and shows lots of talent and imagination. Thrice is good, but for me they are just average musicians cause' I don't see what's so special about them. In my case talent = innovation, imagination and performance and minus the bear has all that in my humble opinion :P

damn right they are ground breaking. they push further with every album too, whereas minus the bear takes no risk and just creates the same songs with the same formula. dun matter that he was in botch, mtb is much better than botch in my opinion, that may be the only good transistion that dave knudsen has made. but you are right about dave knudsen, and that is the only reason minus the bear has anything. this singer is horrible live too by the way, and no chemistry. just four musicians playing..
lol There are five members, so I don't take anything you say as credible. And none of the albums sound different? MTB's sound is a very distinct sound, but you can definetly hear a change in that tone from Menos El Oso to Planet Ice.

hmm, i don't think people listen to thrice too much before they go and judge them. minus the bear is tight and all but i don't think the guitar parts are that original. these guys just took a fairly uncommon style of guitar playing and innovated it into a more modern rock sound. they may be innovative but definately arent ground breaking. thrice on the other hand, is a ground breaking band. everything they do is pure gold. you can sum up minus the bear in a couple songs, you can't with thrice.
Thrice is an amazing band. The alchemy index is so many different styles and sounds in 4 EPs. Minus the bear is an amazing band. Planet of Ice has given me chills eveytime I listen to it and so does this song.

i'd disagree, at least with the newer alchemy index releases from thrice. the fact that they could mature after being a relatively big name in a generic mainstream hardcore/rock/whatever into the ep's they've released lately to says a lot about their musical ability. planet ice isn't breaking new ground for mtb, it just sounds a little better produced and innovative with certain instruments.
