This is just indescribably good, the harmonies are so deliciously complex it's impossible to completely appreciate this work without listening to it over and over again. Which I shall happily do
I think in this case, it's even less harmonious than late-romantic, however because of the unique technique that is used by the perioud, it works well with the dynamic.
The harmony at 1:00 is absolutely amazing. The other qualities of the song are top notch. Purcell has to be one of the greatest choral composers ever.
@jrankey, low tech im afraid. There are probably better ways, but i just scanned in the images and then used windows movie maker to put it together. You're right about choir training. Great idea.
Thank you for posting this. A technical question; What techniques/software do you use to create the score and music moving together? I'm a choir teacher and think it would be a great way for my kids to learn their music.

This is among my favorite choral pieces, and Oxford deliverd with heavenly beauty. The one thing that is prime, other than the marvelous intonation, modulations and dissonance ,is the TEMPO. Many choirs that I have heard sing this piece sing it TOO FAST, including Clare College. If the tempo is marked too high, the beauty of the peice is compromised; you can't rush such richness. Great job Navdon on this selection!!!
@realias The organist has realised the final chord as I in C minor. The singers have accurately sung the written parts. You can hear the alto drop from the Eb to the C.
@greenmoss123 ah ha....so you need to sing it first before being able to make a fair judgement? Singing is not all about xfactor...singing with a microphone...it's bloody hard work.
Stunning.

1:48 to 1:52 makes me feel all warm. Reminds me of a few Beatles progressions. Just beautiful.

My choir director called this piece sexy. He is correct. Purcell is my new favorite composer.

@izzybaggs A wonderfull interpretation, reminds me of Gregorian singing in a way. Still Clare college makes it rock and roll...

Thanks Navdon! Slower and without basso continuo. The dissonants come through even more spinechilling. Tnanks for sharing.
You may enjoy Stabat Mater from Sances. Also recommended is Ad Nos from Lizt on organ.
enjoy
