  • Cool

  • Will this work on some t shirts?

  • I wanted to thank for this great read!I really enjoyed reading

  • Would this method work on a sweater? Or would I be better off doing the tuck in the back?

  • this vid was pretty helpful, thanks guys! (=

  • Will this work with a sweatshirt?

  • I don't understand what to do with the armpits?

  • Oh my god this is amazing.

  • AHH i kiss the ground upon which you walk! A million times thank you!

  • Thank you so much ;)

  • this is such a life safer! i like unique fashions which i cant find in shops so i like to order online, but since I have a tiny waist if something fits my boobs it most definitely wont be fitting enough on my waist...

i can buy things now and ill just tailor them myself! thanks :D

  • omg thank you! I just bought a button up yesterday and was too dumb to try it on, and when I got home and finally did it felt like a tent! This really helped.

  • john paul! like john paul jones!!!!

  • Anyone know a video with more detailed instruction? I want finished seams without using a serger. It's not that I need one (I actually have one) but I want the shirts to appear the way they did originally, with 2 seams down the sides unserged. Any advice?

  • fracking awesome! thanks so much for sharing :D !

  • SICKNESS!! THE ONLY THING that blows is my moms sewing machine... the stupid thing u press ur foot on is missing. maybe il find the part online magically (its a singer from proabably a 13 years ago lol)

  • @dirosaga At least you have one, i handsew EVERYTHING.

  • @whowantsabighug umm, the ONE i have is useless without the foot peddle. Aka i might as well not have one lol. If you check out the singer website you should find some inexpensive ones in the selection.

  • Just one thing though.... once u cut off the extra cloth, won't that leave the fresh cut edges that will like... iunno how to explain it, ruffle up er something? iunno...

  • @dohboiii Don't forget that it's turned inside out. So the excess will be on the inside.

  • Just done it on a work shirt, i've always feared doing it because i had to loose about 6 inches but the key is starting in the armpit and removing the excess.

    Thank you Threadbanger

  • Thanks! I can't always afford to shop at nice places, so I have to get most of my clothes from thrift stores. You find some awesome stuff, but a lot of my shirts are just a teensy bit too big. I'm glad to see that altering them is as simple as I thought it would be. Yay, now I can have nicely fitted shirts!

  • So easy, a caveman could do it!

  • @ThreadBanger when I tried this the armpits pinch. What am I doing wrong?

  • I didn't just like this video I LOVED IT... while a lot people keeps themselves busy trying to make everything LOOK hard to do and make you believe only professionals can do it... you make it look so simple that I even felt a lil embarrased for not havin even imagined it at all, thank u and keep it up!

  • How does the finished seam work? stand up through laundering, etc?

  • @alangdell The seams would need to be serged with a serger sewing machine so that the raw edges of the seam won't fray. Someone that has a serger can definitely help you if you want to finish the seams.

  • OMG AWESOME

  • Do you have any similar techniques to shorten a button down shirt that is too long?

  • i did this with my snowpants... and brefore all you gangsta ass boarders say im gay and shit i want you to know im not homo at all and i fucked your mom last night.

  • @elementsk8er821 dude, it didn't even cross my mind from your innocuous comment to infer you were gave, but in your rush to allay this implication you have simply proven yourself to be an asshole.

  • @kaitzi its cause theres a lot of hate goin on in the snowboard community and its stupid.

  • My school uniform sleeves and the width of the shirt itself is different from the one I tried on at the store, it was perfect there, and same size... somehow it just.. got larger. I'm being very pessimistic about it and i don't feel like asking my mom to do it because I have no experience with sewing since I was 6... should I just ask her to do it now?

  • Thank you for the tutorial! I'm 17 years old, 5'9", and 110 lb, and have a long torso to match my legs. Companies just don't make womens' tops that fit me; they're either too short or too wide, so I usually go for the latter. I can't stand having a shirt that's too short.

I recently bought a couple of nice shirts that I definitely need to take in, and I was considering this method but wasn't sure if it would work. After seeing this tutorial, I now feel a lot more confident. Thanks again!

  • OMG this looks fantastic!!! i have the same problem with shirts - I'm a thin guy, and shirts these days are usually built for ogres it seems like. rather than spending a fortune on nice vintage shirts that are thinner, or a fortune on custom tailoring, i'd rather tailor myself. this looks so easy!! i'll try it with my mom's sewing machine. thanks!!

  • what kind of thread do i use? im doing thies to a pair of my snowpants for snowboarding.

  • Thanks for this but this method won't work on a lot of my shirts because the sides and sleeves use a parallel double stiching method... If I just used a single stitch from the armpits and go straight down the sides half of my sleeve would be double stiched and the rest would be single... not to mention it would look cheap and weird.

  • @nakata70 People look at your armpits to see if the style of stitching matches the stitching on the forearm? I believe we have entered the Twilight Zone

  • i tried this for my job interview at Carrabba's. totally got the job, why? because this video helped me look like a million bucks THANKS! message me for pictures

  • you ´can wear it the right side up and pin it, then mark the pin connections with some tailor chalk from the inside.

Turn your shirt, connect these marks and sew along these marks...

that s how alteration tailors do it. use a ruler along the marks to get a straight line.

  • I would like to say that as a professional seamstress you should NEVER turn your garments inside out. The reason for this is because your body is different on each side i.e.: one hip is slightly higher then the other or your arm might be a bit longer then the other.

I love what Thread Baggers are doing, but please stop turning your garments inside out when altering them.

  • @impalethebunny exactly - this practice could KILL someone!

seriously, as someone who is lop-sided (left everything is half a size larger than the right) turning stuff like this inside-out has never been a problem.

  • wish it was really that easy!

  • I'm a mechanic...and I found it easy. Ask your mom how to set up the sewing machine, it really is easy

  • you guys are life savers...........ok, wallet savers, I'm totally gonna fix this "gigantic" shirt i haven't worn in a while!!

  • can i tailor a hoodie or a plain tshirt using the pinch and pin method and how do you tailor a tshirt or hoodie length ways?

  • I think the answer is yes, but I would make sure to reinforce the sewing so you don't see the thread when your shirt is snuggly on you.

  • sweet! :D

  • What about the sleeves?

  • Awesome! Thank you!

  • That's amazing!! You guys are awesome!

  • Shear genius!! You guys are saving me a ton of $ that would have gone to sewing classes. Thanks. Take a bow!

  • I recent lost a lot of weight. 213 lbs. Can I use the same approach to get rid of excess skin?

  • Congrats on the weight loss!

hahah i have the same problem!

lost 90lbs in 4 months here,

I cant get rid of my xtra skin it sucks! i've been working out HARD and can never get the definition i want thanks to it.

I think our only way out of this is surgery ='(

  • what if you took heamorrhoid cream and rubbed it all over your body? that might shrink it down some.

  • I'm doing this to a T shirt as I type. I thought that would be the correct way,so I guess I was right. I guess learning to sew in high school paid off.

  • Hell yeah. It was boring then but it KICKS ASS now!

  • That's just great for dress shirts. Now, what about the loose fitting tee? No seams.

  • this video made altering clothing simple. Thanks!

  • when ur making skinny jeans out of baggy jeans, don't use pins to pinch and pin to make them fit.

use safety pins, they work a wonder and they don't pierce your leg when you slide the pants off your leg.

  • works for snowpants apparently. im hesh (H) nat

  • wow this actually just helped me out a lot not i can make my pants tighter fitting

  • My mom used this method to make skinny jeans back when she was a kid. ahaha. Now I use them to make mine. :)

    It's pretty easy.

  • XD im wearing skinny jeans right now ! love the vid!

  • no way, that is the best idea every. im going to do that right NOW!! thank you sooooo much.

  • this is very helpful! i'm gonna do this to my shirts now. thank you! XD

  • what are skinny jeans? do they make you look skinny or what?? i know im clueless ive never tried on a pair of skinny jeans in my life

  • there like leggings in a jean form, and not AS tight. but they are tight. girls with no thighs should wear these pants or basically if it looks good. i wore them untill i found out my thighs were huge and i looked ridiculous. so be carefull for i dont no what u look like

  • roflcopter

  • I have a question I Have never altered a shirt before does this take the shoulder size down too? I have INCREDIBLY wide shoulders typically XL at any store... My waist however... is always a Extra small.. Which makes buying clothes really difficult im kinda forced to swim in everything I own or risk looking like the HULK and ripping out of my shirts... is the going to solve my problem or am i gonna be a disproportionate mess for ever?

  • Yea totally, i do this to make skinny jeans =D

  • I am going to try this, it is cool idea !

  • i totally used this method to make skinny jeans.

worked perfectly. they fit me like a glove. :)<3

  • That's a really good itea! I hadn't thought of doing to jeans. Very clever, I think I'll look into that :)

  • Is there any tasteful way to *add* fabric to a t-shirt that's too short and too tight?

  • Omg it that easy.....!!

  • And of course the one video I really want to watch and learn how to do isn't loading....What the Hell.

Can I find this video somewhere else?

  • Oh thank god! I have just been given a star fleet uniform top by a friend but it is too big for me. I sooo want to wear it to a convention tomorrow.

  • That's sooo dodgy! I know coz i have done it before (and i still do! haha!) it looks ok, but really it's not completely practical coz it starts restricting your movement, which is where the art of your pro tailor comes into its own. But its cheap & easy. Where's my sowing machine?

  • what if your not happy on how it fits?

What would you do to make it fit better?

  • Yes they said turn it inside out. I want to do this to a pair of pants but I hate to say I am scared. Also if you don't want those Raw edges on the Inside you could probably burn that edge of line it with something. Snip on Threadbanger, Snip on.

  • or use pinking shears duhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • i didnt know it was THAT easy >.<

  • i altered my nightgown and it worked perfect!

    Thank you! :D

  • DON'T YOU HAVE TO TURN THE SHIRT INSIDE OUT FIRST? if it's a nice shirt like that you don't want raw edges. if you turn the shirt inside out and do that, the messy seam (raw edge) will be inside and the nice will be turned out.

    : )

  • they did say turn it inside out

  • i think thats what they did

  • it'd be the sensible thing to do :)

  • is it possible to do the same with some jeans?

  • sounds like it should work, but the denim might change a few things.

  • Yup! That's how you can make skinny jeans.

  • well there is the whole next step of finishing off your seams, or it will not survive dry cleaning and the entire exercise is moot. perhaps a video on french seams?

  • great tip!

  • if this works with jeans, this clip will have changed my whole wardrobe. thank you!

  • Wow, great job guys!!

  • o boy it's cool

  • oh man that's really cool.

  • Brill you guys.

  • Thats great!! Thanks

  • Second

  • What if you have big sleeves too? Does sowing above the armpit fit that?

  • yeah, and it's way easier to do this than it is to take the sleeves off
