The Qing Dynasty 1644-1911 Beijing is opposed to past Western and Japanese imperialism, but sees nothing wrong in claiming Tibet based on the Manchu Qing Empire. This claim doesn't stand up either. The Manchu rulers of China were Buddhists, and Tibet's Dalai Lamas and the Manchu emperors had a special priest-patron relationship called Cho-Yon whereby China committed to providing protection to the largely demilitarized Tibetan state. Chinese nationalists may see this as sovereignty but it wasn't.

True, but China has imperial intentions just like the U.S. Look at their influence over/exploitation over Burma (timber & jems), Tibet ($218 billion in NEWly discovered mineral resouces, plus massive wind/solar potential, and habitaable land for their massive population), Xinjiang (oil), Africa - Sudan, Congo, etc (where resources are mined but construction almost all done by Chinese labor - little local jobs or training, weapons sales, and bad regimes supported, just like US/Europe has done.)

Yes, free Tibet supporters should clearly distinguish between a state & a quazy-state, like Tibet before Chinese invasion. A term "occupation" would be accaptable in a case of its being an independent state, not a quazy-independent buffer zone. By the way, how to be with Kham & Amdo? Dalai-lama admits himself, they didn't control these areas. So what's the independent Tibet?

tibetan buddhism is just a very small branch of buddhism. you know "kungfu"? it's originally from the shaolin temple, which is a temple of buddhism as well. but those monks are truely peaceful, nothing like monks in tibet.
