I have bolth emulated and by far Diddy Kong Racing is better. Mario Kart is still awesome though. But I still hate monkeys.

Both games offer a unique experience despite the kart theme. Generally DKR is considered the better single player game, while MK64 is regarded as the better multiplayer game. DKR has some nice merits though. Besides the karts, it also offers a plane and a hovercraft, so you've got flying and water tracks It has weapons that can be upgraded with each pickup. It has boss races. There's a lot of variety, and it's a nice display of the N64's power. MK64 makes do with less but it's got great gameplay

I Loved both, mario 64 concentrated more on the racing side were as didi kong had a story line which was defeating wizpig... but i have to give it 2 didi kong racing...

i like this comparision alot. i actually like both games alot, I would say diddy kong racing tho. I could give a harry potter's book length in detail of why, but thats too much for youtube. I will say this did u ever notice that in mario kart 64 whenever u did manage to gain a big lead, the cpu's would always catch up to u. in diddy kong whenever u got a big lead it was pretty much a wrap for the cpu's lol

After the time a replayed the N64 classics. I do not know , how is possible, that people rate MK64 higher.MK is probably pure simplicity. DDKR has much more to offer. Graphics, story, length, more vehicles and in my opinion much better circuits. Far better than MK64.

I'd like to compare both games to cereal:

Mario Kart 64 = Alpha-Bits

Diddy Kong Racing = Marshmallow Alpha Bits

Both cereals are delicious and awesome, but Diddy Kong Racing adds that little extra something that makes me seek it out, rather than it's comparison.

Continued.. I know for a fact my family had much more fun in multiplayer on DKR with trophy races, and the battles such as icycle pyramid. We spent countless hours beating each others time trials by tenths of a second it was actually really competitive considering it was a 'kid's' game. The game has also aged reasonably well, go back to Mario kart and Im sure you'll be surprised how bad it looks. I've gone on for too long!

The only reason most people think mario kart 64 is better is because it is the Mario cast and nintendo fanboys would never betray them. But come on DKR is clearly superior. For a start the best racer wins not this 'everyone is a winner' belief that nintendo has by punishing good players. The controls were much more responsive, the graphics were better, the race designs were more imaginative, the adventure mode gave it a hub world and bosses. The challenges were better, silver coins? continued...

The items are not as good as MK64's but the controls are a little smoother and sharper and I reckon Nintendo could of released another Mario kart game throughout the N64's lifetime considering the systems RAM was able to be expanded there could of been another Mario kart and it would of looked similar to MKDS.

They should of released another one around 1999 or 2000

During the launch of Mario kart 64 Nintendo had not used the full cabability of the N64's hardware.

The Mario characters were in sprites instead of 3D models which was alright but I hate the slow acceleration in Mario kart 64 and there aren't enough tracks.

By the time Diddy kong racing came out Rare had a lot of time using the N64's hardware cabablities in order to make DKR slightly sharper and smoother controls, full 3D modeling, more tracks and changing music seqeunces.

IMHO Diddy Kong Racing has Ok multiplayer,while Mario Kart 64 has Ok single player.

But Diddy Kong Racing's single player is like a mix of racing and adventure game.

Racing and adventuring in Karts,Airplanes and some sort of Boats.

It last's very long time to find everything.

Fantastic game!

How do you know that Mario Kart is better if you never played Diddy Kong Racing?

IMHO Mario Kart is far superior than DKR in multiplayer,while DKR is far,far superior in Single Player.

Overal Diddy Kong Racing has more interesting tracks,and vastly superior visuals. Only Jungle track from MK is worth mentioning when comparing visuals IMO.

Diddy Kong racing for the win!! DKR had better graphics, level combos, cheats, and playability than mario kart. I wish Nintendo 64 had come out with a new DKR game before releasing the DKR on Nintendo DS.

Mario Kart was always the party favourite because of the easy learning curve and the weapon variety,

but I think Diddy Kong Racing has aged better by not being succeeded by any sequels.

Once you get to grips with it, the depth, the ability to use planes and hovercrafts and the extra battle modes (egg collection/bananna collection) it is a better game. The single player is also more fun, though much much harder.

@TheZonegamer the only thing i didnt like about Mario Kart 64 was the fact that no matter how fast you went, the com would start going at super speed and catch you. then slow down when they got to you. bad programming
