  • Whoops should of watched the first half before I took it all apart.

  • Great video......easy to follow, Cleaned my 500A like brand new. Thanks !

  • lol nevermind, got it. that's a tricky one right there.

  • cant put the trigger housing assembly back in, tried everything

  • Thank you for the informative vid i just got a Mossberg 500 and i wanted to tear it down, the guy who had it before me spray painted the internals and every thing outside of it a olive green and i don't think he cleaned it either. now its clean and paint free thanks again

  • Great video man- thanks!

  • The screw to the stock of my gun seems to have been welded in or super-glued in. I wanted to switch it out with a better recoil stock, but it's stuck in there.

  • Awesome video. Just picked a used one and I am going to do a complete tear down, re-blue it and make some modifications. This will be quite handy!

  • Great video thanks so much for the help.

  • Thank you this helped very much

  • How do I remove the stock?

  • @Thunor232 unscrew the buttplate and inside is a flat head bolt...get a long screw driver and there you go

  • @DeanMLFlame What kind of head is on those screws? I can't see in there to tell.

  • @Thunor232 my 500 Persuader uses a standard flat head screwdriver

  • Well done. Thank you for posting this invaluable video.

  • excellent explination, very good video

  • Never tried myself. I got it on the first try. Thanks this video was a great help. I would have never got everything to line up if I used the drawing in the owners Manuel, this video made it easy. Thanks.

  • Great video, thank you for the full no camera trick view.

  • really excellent video thanks!

  • Learned how to disassemble my mossberg 500, and I only had to watch this video about 3 times. Awesome vid no I can do with my eyes close!

  • Thanks for the video....Your video was super helpful with an older 500 I have.

  • Thanks, very useful. Trigger was kind of a pain to get back in tho.

  • Great video, helped me a great deal with my Mossberg 590A1

  • Thanks, very useful! I also took off the stock using a socket wrench (long extension) and a flat head screwdriver bit. :)

  • I like the way u made sure the gun is unloaded.

  • The bayonet lug is handy?! How often would you even use that?! haha the shotguns are best up close, you dont need it as a poking stick

  • @thatsnotmickeymouse Well wouldn't a bayonet be also useful at close range? I mean it might not seam like the most practical weapon when discussing theoretical application on the internet , but I do think that it is better to have the lug rather than to not.

  • Very good video. i am restoring mine. i used your video for alot of it but i had to take apart the trigger system. please show me how to get the springs back in. can not figure it out for nothing. PLEASE!!!!!

  • Thanks for the tutorial! I can't begin to list how much stuff I've learned from guys like you posting stuff on YT. Thanks a bunch!

  • so the maverick 88 is pretty much the same gun, right?

  • hey man thanks you saved my shotgun bro, plus, I made my own video almost exactly the same as yers.

  • Hey guys I have a mossberg 535 n I was wondering do parts from the mossberg 500 fit my shotgun like stock barrel n forearm... Thanks

  • om fucking gosh thank u so much u saved me a lot of money with this video...wowwwwwwwww..btw people i use this video to put my mossberg 600at back together

  • I have a mossberg 1200A that i would like to reblue . Is the disasembly process the same as the mossberg 500 ?

  • make sure safety is off!!!!!!!!!

  • I could watch this a hundred times.....

I love my Mossy 500, Parkerized, 9 Shot, Heat Sink, Ghost Ring Sights, Pistol Grip or Speedfeed Stock(which I prefer), LimbSaver, SpecterGear 2 Point Sling

MrHurley795....I use M-Pro7 products on all my guns...super cleaned and oiled without the Hoppe's smell.

  • awesome video. i just got mine so this helped me a lot. do you have any recommendations on cleaning kits and solutions?

  • nice video. Thanks.

  • Excellent!! Thank you!!

  • I have used your video twice now to clean my Mossberg 500. very easy to understand and very helpful!

  • thank u

  • Is $370 a good price for one of these?

  • @Mr503Productions

It depends. Mossberg 500's can go anywhere from $300 for the basic model to about $550 for the special tactical or other such fancy models.

For $370, I would expect it to have some sort of special feature, like a heat shield, 2 different barrels to choose from, or at least a camo finish.

  • @Tezcatlepocatl or buy one in the uk where we pay what would be about $800 for the basic ones.

  • @shadowsteel5

I do feel for you guys over there. It's too bad that the Brits who understand that guns are simply just another tool (as opposed to evil sentient murdering machines) are in the minority in their country.

But my answer to @Mr503Productions, who lives in L.A., still stands.

  • @Tezcatlepocatl Just the other day i spent $686 (£430) on a remington 870 express with wood furniture and 28'' barrels. Shooting certainly aint cheap over here but ill be damned if thats going to stop me.

  • Very good video ! thanks for posting

  • Excellent instruction vid

  • If you have a pistol grip you must remove it before the trigger guard comes off. Some models of grips may be different.

  • good video, im leaning more to the 870 now as it looks a lot easier to strip and clean which makes you do it more often.

  • God bless this video I would still be trying to reassemble the thing lol.

  • I have 500 A and this does not work on mine. I pop the pin and nothing comes out.

  • @wvprepper26101 To remove the trigger assembly try moving the safety and or pull the trigger .

  • Great tutorial - Especially for a first time shotgun owner!

  • This video is a God send!!!!

  • Disregard my comment below. Found a link that indicates there is a difference in how the magazine tube is attached.

  • @Fotrane i have the same problem how did you take it out?

  • @spazzboy I didn't. I just left it alone. From what I can tell it shouldn't be removed unless you need to replace it and have a replacement.

  • @Fotrane do you know if the mossberg 600 can be field striped like this

  • @JUKEBOXX1990 Not familiar with the 600

  • I've got a Mossberg 500 manufactured for Western Auto under the "Revelation" brand. My dad bought this when he was in high school (late 60's). This video has been helpful. At 1:47 you show the slide coming right off the front. Mine just stops and does not slide off. Do you know if the older 500's were built differently? I'm not going to try to force it off, but would like to get it off so that I can give it a complete cleaning. Thanks for the helpful video.

  • Video was a life saver today. Very helpful. Tore down and cleaned my 500 today. Could'nt have done it without this video!

  • Great video thanks! Except I cleaned mine while it was apart ;-).lol

  • good video, but not much explanation and everything is hidden from view due to the angle the gun was placed at, I didn't see where the cartridge stop and the cartridge interrupter went.

  • Great video thanks. The manual sucks lol, but I was able to get my gun back together in less than 5 minutes thanks to the video. I just needed to know how to line up the bolt slide.

  • I have owned a 500A for long time, never took it all apart until I saw this video. How do you do it so quick? it is hard to find the sweet spots on the assembly.

    Thanks a million.

  • @DVDTracker is it possible to remove the stock of the mossberg 500 and replace it with a pistol grip? I know this is horrible for the accuracy and makes firing it more difficult when you want to place more than one shot in the same area quickly, but it would make for manuevering it in my home much easier. Thank you before hand!

  • thanks so much!! had a bit of trouble during reassembly, this solved everything.

  • I just took mossberg 500 apart for the first time !! thanks =)

  • Comment removed

  • Great vid, the Mossberg 500 manual is completely useless when it comes to this, very vague and the pics are absolutely useless. Thanks for taking the time to do this, very helpful and well put together.

  • I couldn't have done it without this awesome and informative video - all the step by step written guides I found started with removing the magazine tube. That was not gonna work on my shotgun. The tips on lining up the bolt carrier were priceless, thanks for saving me hours of frustration!

  • Excellent video. Don't mean to sound facetious but you used the right terminology for all the parts and everything! ;>

  • yea thanks a ton man i have had a mossberg 500 for about 2 years and this video was very usefull! very very very usefull!

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with greeandblue9771, this is the first time that I have had to break down my 500A so I could clean it and this was extremely helpful. If someone couldn't follow this, they probably shouldn't own a firearm in the first place. Thank you DVDTracker, it was a lot of help.

  • nice quick, clean, and crisp video; well edited. no dragging on and wasting time with foul ups, etc.

  • Thanks for the Vid. It saved me a couple of hours of trial-n-error. A dead monkey can re-assemble an 870. I was ill-prepared for the Mossberg.

  • I have a brand new one chambered in .410 im looking to sell. MSG me if interested, thanks!

  • Don't listen to the nay sayers. I am a novice and I had no problems getting my 500 back into working order. Thank you very much. You have been a big help.

  • to many parts... thats why rem 870 is more reliable

  • yoU REALLY DO SUCK...YOU TALK TOO FAST FOR THE NOVICE...II COULD NOT SEE SHIT ON YOUR VIDEO.....,

  • Gonna use this video in a week.

  • very helpful video thank you sir

  • Good video, helped me get my 835 back together again!

  • I carried one in Iraq, but that was about 4 years ago, was a great quick reminder. Thanks

  • Thanks! Worked out great.

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks Tracker I have a 590 persuader I have looked at a few videos on this subject and yours was very concise, it was very helpful Thanks again! Peace !

  • wow. youtube can answer almost any question i ever have.

  • Very good tutorial, I just added a new forend to my old mossy 500 and decided to give it a thorough cleaning and with the help of you video, I was able to do it with ease. Thank you!

  • I should say; would this be the same take down procedure as the 835

  • Would it be the same for the 835?

  • Do these have the same style barrel as a 600ct?

  • Man, this video was a huge help! I've never torn down my shotgun before. I tore it down, painted it, lubed it and re-assembled it. Thanks!

  • Thanks very much! Worked great for a Remington guy!

  • Man that's confusing compared to my 870

  • Thanks for the video.. New shotgun owner of a Mossberg 535.. Followed along with video and disassembly and reassembly went without any issues..

  • The magazine unscrews, but they put thread lock on it from the factory. I always heat them up with a heat gun(or hair dryer) and they will usually come off. I have had to use a pipe wrench on one once, I wrapped a piece of innertube around the magazine tube and many wraps of duct tape and it finally came off. Don't use too much pressure with the wrench or it can collapse the tube.

  • Now how do you take out the magazine tube

  • I just bought my mossberg last week and took it out today. I normally shoot my remminton 870, which comes apart very easily. The slide, elevator and bolt come out for each cleaning. The mossberg looks like I need to remove the trigger bay to remove the bolt/slide/elevator. Do I need to do this every time I clean? :|

  • Thank you so much for this vid! I took my Moss 500 apart to clean it for the first time and getting the trigger assembly back in was a bitch!...That is until I watched your video! I subscribed. Thanks a million!

  • Simple to do but for people that are new to this I think you did great and had a well put together video. Good job man.

  • im was going to get a new slide handle soon so this is extremely helpful

  • Great video, very informative and well paced. Thanks for taking the time to make it.

  • i like how you clear the weapon, disassemble, reassemble, clear the weapon, and functions check all in that order. are you prior military? thats the full process we use lol

  • i just broke my 500 and your video help me a lot thanks man

  • Thanks for the help, the owners manual is worthless.

  • I'm making a model for a first person shooter, and this video helped me a lot, thankyou.

  • Any videos on dissassembly for a mossburg bullpup 500 ? Please help

  • very proffesional nice job

  • im sellin a mossberg 500 for $250 holds 7+1 in the chamber it comes with a knoxx recoil reducing stock and a pistol grip i only shot it 4 times. message me if intrested

  • Very helpful. I just got a 590 today and wanted a basic run-down. This was perfect.

  • Awesome video, very helpful, and to the point! Keep up the good work.

  • Thank You so much for this video! i have always wanted to put a new pump on my 535 and this video certainly fulfilled that, i had no idea how to take it off before this video. Thanks.

  • I am glad I got a Remington 870z the only parts there are are the bolt, bolt carrier slide barrel and trigger mechanism. Much easier than all the little whatchamacallits on the 500.

  • @snohman007

I owned a Remington 870 for quite a while before getting my Mossberg 590 and they are not too bad. It's much simpler than it looks. There's only one way everything can fit and my dis-assembly and reassembly literally take less time than the guy in this video. And I just got it today. Simple simple simple. My Benelli M3 is much more complicated due to being pump/semi auto select fire.

  • Thanks! You saved me. My weapon was disassembled and I couldn't get it back together using the manual. I just took the barrel and the trigger assembly out, but then other pieces fell out of place and I was lost until I found your video. Thanks again.

  • i took down and cleaned my new 590a1 for the first time today after I shot it, and wow.... it was a long process the first time, definitely not like taking apart an AK or an AR. but, i eventually got it down, just disassemble it and re assemble it a few times and itll be like second nature.

  • @soviet937

I agree that the AKs are way simpler but the ARs? ARs are way more complicated than the Mossberg 500...

  • @geeknproud2110 if you start taking down stuff like the lower receiver components and gas keys and stuff like that then your right, i just meant like simply taking out the charging handle, bolt carrier, and cleaning it from there. But im used to taking my 590 apart now, in fact i think i can probably do it with my eyes closed.

  • Hey your video was very helpful. I made a one minute demo on a Magpul product. I think you'll like my attitude of all guns are always loaded. Maybe not. Truth is I enjoyed your video. i pulled out the moss 500 from under my bed today and decided to take it down and your video helped. Keep up the good work. I hope you enjoyed my video too.

    Randy Cooter

  • with this instruction disassambling a 500 is a lot easier, so thanks for this and greetings from Poland

  • a quick note.... when reassembling be sure the slide arms are lined up properly. I didnt fully understand that part and when I reassembled I had the forend pulled all the way forward and it didnt work right. the forend arms and bolt slide fit together perfectly when lined up the right way. Ya can really only mess it up once. Once you do it the right way you'll never screw it up again. Thanks again! this vid is seriously helpful!

  • very good vid.... helped alot! thanks man!

  • very good vid..... helped me out as well!! thanks!!

  • Good video, thank you!

  • big help. thanks alot. i watched it 4 times before i built up the nerve 2 do it

  • @orangeheaven7 hahaha meee too :p

  • Good job on the vid and verbal instruction... Clear, concise, and to the point.

    Thank you.

  • Do Mossberg shotguns need batteries?

  • Very helpful. Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • You are easy to understand, obviously know what you are doing and put together a great video. If you have the time, I'd love to see you make a video on cleaning this weapon.

  • Excellent clearly shot video. I have the Mossberg 535 - my first gun ever - and I was having some difficulty with the disassembly. Thanks for the great information.

  • whats the point in doing this

  • Are these better than the 870

  • @TheHeartOfTheLion for the price, yes.

  • yes when i'am reassembling my shotgun i like to prefusely hit it with my vintage klingon battle axe if i did'nt have a klingon battle axe i would never have been able to put this shotgun back together.

  • Thanks! There are plenty of videos on this but you had proper lighting and good camera work to go along with the clear instructions!

  • Thanks for the video - I just purchased one and I'm waiting on the silly California 10-day waiting period. :)

  • Thanks for this video helped a lot

  • How often should uclean a shotgun

  • @elvatojoker Everytime you take it out to shoot it you should clean it. If it is a closet queen then give it a cleaning and oil it up every couple of months. If you just bought a shotgun then definitely clean it before you fire it.

  • Thanks! Perfect.

  • thanx

  • THANK YOU IT'S HELP ALOT!! SPENT 3HRS TRY TO PUT IT BACK IN SHAPE. WATCH THIS VIDEO TAKE ME LESS THEN 10MIN...

  • I have a Mossberg 835 shotgun and recently got it really muddy and dirty goose hunting! I found this video very helpful in disassemblying the 835 and found it to be almost exactly the same as disassemblying the 500! Thank you

  • Do the Mossberg 500 and the 500A disassemble the same? I don't really notice any outer appearance between the two.

  • Thanks Bro.

  • Very brief and went WAY to fast, doesn't really explain a whole lot.

  • @SpykeZ0129 well that's because there isn't a whole lot to explain :P though when ya first watch it, it does go pretty quick... but he just didn't want to make a 15 minute video blabbing on about minor things :p i agreed with you at first

  • very useful video, thank you.

  • The stock instructions are like anything, throw em away and ask someone that owns one. Or in this case watch someone that owns one, thanks for the video.

  • Great video. I can disassemble a Remington 870, but the Mossberg is totally different. The Mossberg instructions are less than average and the video helps a LOT. Thanks for a great video. Subscibed!

    Ken

  • I own a Mossberg Maverick model 88and this video was very helpful with the dis-assembly and re-assembly of my shotgun, thank you.

  • @Ehawkins123 How is the 88? I always figured they were just shitty cheap budget guns so I never bothered to really look at one.

  • Thank you very much. I most definitely learned how to do this properly.

  • I just bought a Mossberg 500 about 30 mins ago, and this video will help me out a lot for cleaning. Thanks!

  • I was about ready to toss that sunnuva bitch out the window until i saw your video. I had no clue that the slide had to be half way up for the barrel to fit, the instructions are about as helpful as a sack of shit

    Awesome Video!!!!

  • everytime they say something about making sure its unloaded and then do it, I think

    "I never do that"

when actuly I do it subconsciously

  • I'll be getting my mossberg 500. as soon as the b/g check clears. i have a houge tamer pistol-grip and forend. and i've heard the forend is very hard to remove from the mossberg 500. do u have any advise or tricks that may be helpful???

  • thank you for the instructions.

  • how do u take off the trigger housing on a pistol grip?

  • @eLO419 You have to remove pistol grips unfortunatly, but the trade off is the shortened draw (obviously). At least, that's what I've noticed.

  • just got the same rifle

  • PERFECT, no BS information on exactly what I needed to know. Great video, thanks.

  • Great video, first time dis/reassemble my 500A. Anyone else with a 500a will discover you have to take the pistol grip off before the trigger assembly will come out. Thanks for the video!

  • Im looking to sell my LNIB Mossberg 500 in .410. Msg me if interested.

  • Is it possible that on older models the slide does not not come out cause i can pull as much as i want on mine and it does not come out . Can you help me ???

  • Thank YOU & EVERYONE else on youtube who das videos on how to properly maintain and clean your firearms, your video was very detailed and simple and made my Mossy 500 wistle again. Thanx again

  • Amesome, thanks for the great vid. Steve

  • Excellent tutorial! Well done ! How about making some more (cleaning, adding equipment) ?

  • Well done tutorial. Followed it and had absolutely no trouble disassembling and assembling my mossberg 500. Feel confident now I can order and self-install a new foregrip. Thank you.

  • This guy makes this shit look to easy .. i can get everything assembled but when i rack the slide it will go back but it want pull forward

  • I shouldve never taken my gun apart ill never get it back together damn it

  • my effing barrel doesnt wanna go in
