I watched this vid b4 the Classic and noticed that's how they trained her...To Lose! She always passes her rivals b/c she's soo intelligent. Sherriffs shouldve left her alone and let her win. Even if she hits the lead too soon she will run the daylights out of any horse. Watch the Vanity on 7-5-08 she keeps on running and doesn't let Tough Tizs Sis pass her!
It really is slightly eerie the way she 'locks on.' In the helmet-cam video Shireffs posted last year, you can look "down the sights" between her ears at the other horse. There's a certain feeling of the inevitable -- you know she'll catch him, you just don't know when.
Dear ponypal: Just a futile attempt at humor. Did you know that a $2 win parlay on all of Zenyatta's races is now $30,000 and would be $54,000 without the fifteen percent track take?
@motosneerful No Moto, ponypall is correct, it's called pursuit, just like human track runners in training, she ran at a set pace and worked a bit down the stretch, keeping her locked in on any horse in front of her, she is ready to rock an roll, :)
Looks like they're trying to teach her to keep running up to the wire, and even to keep running past it- as she has a tendency to loaf and play when she knows she is winning. She looks like she had fun out there and was not urged, ran well within herself.
She looks like a horse chasing a shetland pony on the back stretch. The rider, I assume it was Smith, didn't move his hands until the last few jumps before the line. It's incredible how lucky she was to have wound up in the care of this trainer & these owners. I shudder to think of how different her career might have been had things been otherwise. Thanks for the great clip.
@MaDkOrNfLaKeS Because Hollywood Parks Cushion track is closest thing to real dirt in Southern California none of the other tracks do because Hollywood favors speed. Plus it's her home base And Looking at Lucky is training at Hollywood as well but both horse will jog over Churchill's Downs track when they get to Kentucky. Blame will be training on the Poly track at Keeneland.
here is john sherriff's quote on the objective of this work today: ""The object today was to NOT have her pass a horse. We wanted her with a fresh horse throughout the work" -John Shirreffs 9 hours ago
now this is a work...Shirreffs knows it's not about winning in the morning, but keeping the "great & powerful one" interested...great execution...Zenyatta is all world!

@motosneerful It wasn't a race...just a workout. I'm sure they paced her.
