Pretty good haul Sean! The AV Famicom uses the same power supply as the Super Famicom - 9v DC with a negative center polarity. I'm jelous of those Ramna 1/2 PCE CD games, especially since they're so cheap! Even though they're likely just Japanese visual novels, I love that series nearly as much as Urusei Yatsura.
@SatoshiMatrix1 Yeah, I eventually got one separately. The Famicom, AV Famicom, and Super Famicom actually all use the HVC-002 power supply, so that's pretty fortunate! I can't imagine a situation where I'd need to run more than one of those at once.
@1JDTV Yup, this is true! But I would still need an AC adapter. Fortunately, this is also the same as original Famicom, or the Super Famicom. UNfortunately, mine has a frayed cable and doesn't work so well any more, so I've been using a Genesis Model 1 adapter for a while and really wanted a new one.
Fortunately, once again, I was able to buy one separately. :)
Great video as always and nice finds you have there Sean. You bought pretty much everything to a tee that I would buy if I went to Japan. :P I have been focusing on mainly American based gaming systems for the last 20 years, but I have been buying Japanese based games here and there, including several new FDS titles.. Some day I might actually be able to play them. We'll see.
I would so hang with you guys. Of course, the closest I get to old school is using an emulator to play PC Engine CDs. Still, if anyone wants a guest at their house to make a video, I'm your guy.
@SeanOrange Yeah, Just the disc. I assume the software checks for the device, but how does the Wii handle it? Does the Wii still have the hardware to hook up the add-on in the PCB? I assume it just assumes nothing is there and either crashes or gives an error message, but it's be fun to see someone wire up the GB Player to a Wii if the pinouts are still on the board.
@xnamkcor Ah, yes. Vinnk informs me that there's a full GameCube board inside of all Wiis, which is why you can't transfer your save files to the Wii, etc, because there's literally the previous hardware in there. That DOES mean that the pinouts on the board are indeed still there, which also means it must handle the disc just fine -- it just won't find the hardware like if you didn't connect it to a GameCube. BUT, I guess someone could complete the circuit!
Yeah, anything that uses the video mode older than the Mark III/SMS apparently doesn't work. So there might be some SG-1000 games that work maybe since the line was a little blurry on the Japanese side, but I'd rather just get a working Mark III or Japanes SMS.
i really need to go to Japan some day to spend a bunch of money on this stuff . Would probably be cheaper stay here and buy from ebay, since the flight to japan is quite expensive....Damn you Japan, why you need to be so far away. :(
You can use the AV cables of your Orange GameCube on your AV Famicom and I'm pretty sure that the AC for your Mega Drive Model 1 is compatible with your Famicom.
@theimporter Yup! Both of those things are true. I think I replied to someone else that I have SO MANY sets of those AV cables between the three generations of Nintendo consoles that used them that I don't think I'll ever run out. Heck, my ACTUAL Famicom adapter stopped working a while ago (frayed wires; trying to fix it now), so I've already been using the Genesis Model 1 Adapter (of which I have two). Now I have an actual Mega Drive as well, so I should be all set! ;)
@Kefka44 No need to kill; just come to Japan. ;) I'm sorry Rising Stuff closed, otherwise this would be much easier, but there should still be some decently-priced importers out there.
I'm jealous haha, though lately I've had this odd interest in bizarre Famicom Pirate cartridges and wacky Famiclones. The user Rinkaku8960 has some videos and also a website where he collects pirate carts. I'd like to find some of these but sadly I'm in Western Europe.
Hey maybe you guys could do a little bit looking/research for an episode.
@LarryBundyJr No, but you can use an adaptot to use the US or the EU versions on the adaptor. But it won't play JP Mark 3 games (Becouse of pin differances).
@LarryBundyJr There IS (did I not mention it?), but I believe that like the US (and UK?) version you can't play SG-1000 games with it because of the video mode issue we covered in the "Sega Incompatibilities" Denshimail, and so the Lode Runner game I had gotten would not have worked. I should have taken a picture of it! There was a box and everything.
@SeanOrange I must admit I've never seen one before. I own two PAL ones and there's a few incompatible games. F16 Fighting Falcon and Shanghai are two off the top of my head. But I think I may have missed that episode.
No Kamen Rider Black: Taiketsu Shadow Moon? Because we totally know how awesome that game is. Especially the amazing non repetitive music. And the best controls in the world. oh god that game is so god awful, but still so amusing.
