Nice one ... did you try to put your speakers on something that not allow transfer vibrations to a desk ? Try it ... something crazy like a brick. You will hear the difference.
@rtofvnt Thanks, this is my first setup, I learned a lot by building it. And really enjoy using it. Buying monitor foam pads has been "I'll do it tomorrow" thing for a long while, so I decided to stop thinking about. I'll it tomorrow.
Nice... But you need to get a pair of monitor stands bro... Half of your mix is bouncing off of your desk... And take those mackies back & get a pair of Rokit 5s!!! They sound way better than the mackies, and they translate mixes well. I've done work for famous singers and they LOVE my mixes. I also have a pair of CHEAP Sonys I reference on, as well as small pc speakers. If you get a great sounding mix on cheap speakers, you've won.
this isnt a home recording studio so much as its just a big PC rig with a midi controller and some monitor speakers... is the audio interface even used for anything other than spitting out audio to the speakers? where's the gear man... software sucks
Your speakers seem to need to go 6 inches or so higher - at ear level. Doesn't hurt to buy some felt "cushion" feet at Home Depot and put them on the bottom so their vibration doesn't go into the desktop they're sitting on.
Is there a special bracket for 3 monitors? I feel like i'm just taking a giant crap on nature when I have just two mintors turned on but 3 the same size look amazing.
Does anyone know if there is a monitor/tv that you can plug multiple devices into and within that one screen you can have different devices in different areas? I would love it if I could just have one huge screen to view and mouse around in different devices. Obviously I would be using two or three different mouses. Does it exist?
@papillonmusical East West staff is unreal, especially strings. If anyone has tried East West symphonic orchestra you'd know what I am talking about, but East West Symphonic Choirs are just unbelievable.
@UNDERBROWN89 don't start this, i produce with pc and would gladly argue about which is better except it's pointless and stupid. dont start mac vs pc wars, its never pretty.
@tim7222 Uhm? lol. Anyone that knows what they're doing can obviously say that no one gives a fuck what you're using. There's no fucking difference between a MAC and a PC for what you can do. It's a matter of which one YOU prefer. Just like DAWs.
@Em0killer13 oddly enough, in the past of would have agreed with you. Of course, then I bought a macbook pro and logic. I found that overall, it does not crash, automatically recognizes all of my gear and has the power to crush any that I have used in the past few years. I know that there will always be personal bias in this, but I have never had a PC that was as stable as the mac. In you defense the guys from recording mag stated that they have used both with equal results, but hey they had
@lonzenator (cont) super computers to test. Again, for me personally, the Mac is the only system I will use after my previous PC experiences. I do agree with Speekajelly... great tools are just that tools... you have to know how to use them to get the best recordings. Many of the early great recordings were on 2 track analogue units then bounced down multiple times to get all of the overdubs and other stuff they needed.
@lonzenator As you wish. PC's are for people with more knowledge about computers. And the supercomputers you speak of, are actually around the same price point as macs. But that doesn't matter. Because it takes more effort to get them. Some people consider it a hassle to build their own computer, I consider it an advantage, instead of having pre-packaged garbage. Regardless. Tools are tools, how you use them is what matters. Pick your poison!
@Em0killer13 hey, not trying to start a mac versus pc thing... I just know the problems i suffered using a pc with sonar. It just seemed to crash all the time. again, it may have been the software, or the PC or a combination of those. On one system, I maxed the ram, swapped the audio card, swapped the video card, and everything else people told me to do to get better performance, but it just never seemed stable. Again, I realize it is as much personal bias as anything, but I love using a mac.

@Em0killer13 I am not going to dispute the benefits of one system or another. For me personally, the Mac has been a much better system. For me it has been crash proof, where the PC tended to crash all the time. The Mac has allowed a greater number of simultaneous plugins and tracks than the PC. Again, this has only been my experience. My prev system was a PC w/Sonar. Now I am using a Mac with Logic pro 9. extreme difference. I do like the fact that with a mac I can use apogee converters.
@lonzenator (cont.) With the PC that was not an option. Again, I will admit, the PC was much better than the old idea of splicing analogue tape (yep I am that old), and having to bounce between an 8 track TEAC 2" and other TEAC and TASCAM Reel-to-Reels... Again, my bias is based on personal experience. The truth is I record to an Alesis HD-24, transfer the tracks into the computer via a Fireport and then only use the DAW for editing and mixing.
@lonzenator As for my knowledge of computers, I have been using them since the original Apple IIC and Apple IIE. I have learned to program on those, as well as, the old Trash 80s from RadioShack, and the really old IBM systems. Yes, I remember when a meg of ram was considered a super computer. I also remember using Cakewalk, before it was designed for audio (strictly a midi sequencer). I have built several and upgraded several, but they never seemed to be able to handle the high track counts.
@lonzenator Cool. I didnt ask for your personal experience. This is how it is generally. Besides, if you really knew about computers, you'd know a mac isn't worth it. Think what you may, but a fact is a fact.
There are plenty of us with a great knowledge of computers, but prefer spending our time producing audio then tending to one PC system crash after another.
I definitely did learn a lot about computers from when I exclusively used PCs, but it was because I had to. I was constantly having to fix something weird happening.
Hi, I heard that monitor speaker's tweeter unit has to be height of listener's ear to get a nice sound image. You'd better to study about studio monitor set up ~ You can't get 100% of the speakers now.
You should arrange your monitor boxes in a right, upright position and in level with your ears! So would get better results with a low cost 2.1-HiFi-system ;-( Beware of the sweet spot of your monitors, if you plan to make music like a semi pro...
3 monitors, but a really shabby midi keyboard and no daw controler. Well, sometimes, 90% of the studio is looks, because you can do almost everything with DAWS these days. Do you mix? If you mix, get yourself a good DAW controller (presonus has one starting at like $200). I just did and god, does it saves time.
gr8 setup!!!! i would like to ask about the software you use to record... if i have a band and want to record each instrument alone on a layer then mix them what kind of software should i use?
Well you should think of redesigning it a little, you have some bad monitor placement right there. They should be in an equilateral triangle, where your head is exactly the same distance to the tweeters as they are from each others. And the tweeters should be at ear level.
@BorisPoludo Np, an other thing, you should think of moving your desk and monitors (speakers) away from the walls and the corner I saw. The closer they are to the wall the more bass you will boost, especially if you are in a corner.
@krisda132 One system box - two dual heads. Three monitors regardless what people say worth it big time. At least it works out for me really well. This way I don't have to constatly flip between windows instead having everything including the sequencer, the plugins and what I do is as you see I have one on the left completely dedicated to the manual, if you want to make anything more or less decent you must work your manual. e.g. somethig like sidechaining you will never learn without a manual
@BorisPoludo uh no more or less decent? no friend you dont need three monitors to make good mixes, its personal preference, your not better then other people just because you have more somewhat useless gear then other people, I'll take good ears then three monitors anyday
@Denyernator its just cheap and nasty. it serves a purpose however and i guess i kinda do love it in a way. weighted keys really do make a hell of a difference though
@guitarpornographer Yeah I suppose it depends on what you want to do with it. My brother has a full on electric piano with weighted keys which he uses for inputting MIDI, but he's doing a composition degree, so things like dynamics and phrasing are important for that. I just use mine for synth tracks and such.
Exactly, for the price they cant be beat. Allthough the dell ultrasharp's are far far better than any mac screen, and cost about the same. If thats the budget, you would be crazy to not get them.
@Djflow997 It is M-AUDIO KeyRig 49 MIDI controller. It was about a 100 bucks a year ago and it is as good as one can expect for 100 bucks but considering this is just a MIDI controller I think M-AUDIO could do a little better in terms of quality. If I was buying one now I would definitely go a something better than that, the wheels are ok I guess but the but the volume slider is really cheap. check out Aguarium, Highway and Bulgaria in my vids, I used this controller in those. Thanks.
@SolidRecordz Those are MACKIE R5 active monitors. They are totally awesome, lots of power and lows are really nice and round, the sound is crystal clear but the most important thing they do the job really well, I mean in terms of monitoring the output, I thy my mixes in diff sound systems after and the sound is very consistent.
To the OP, Nice setup bro! @david13detroit@darrenguitar a properly isolated monitor doesn't matter if it's on it's side or upright. you can mount them at 45deg angles if your room is appropriate. if you 2 were going to wax intellectual about anything, these monitors are clearly not at optimum height sitting on the desk. they should be at ear height, not pointed at your chest, seems they are also not isolated from the desk surface which creates radiant sounds and interferes with the field.
@waterkeeper03 Thanks for your comment. I am aware of the monitor issue. Those monitor pads that have a layer of steel in the middle and also angle monitor appropriately, just still trying to find it in me to spend 250 bucks for monitor pads. I am thinking to trading all this for macbook pro. Thanks Again. B.
@BorisPoludo I'm not gonna harass you about your setup like some people would. you put your money in, it looks great. whatever is important to your budget bro. People seem to really like these Auralex brand isolation pads. 40 USD for a set.. I just got my set of monitors ordered. Yamaha hs80m. I'm going to start with just a piece of damping foam under them, texture side down is supposed to be adequate. if not I'm going to opt for stands... anyway, Good Luck to you man.
all that money spent you could have gotten better monitors to go next to your monitors, and got some BETTER background music.

man how can i put 3 monitors like u. are u using 2 computers or only 1???
krisda132 3 months ago
@krisda132 1 computer, u need a special video card
PsYcHeDeLiKk734 3 months ago
@PsYcHeDeLiKk734 no you don't, if you are not a gamer you just need two simple dual heads
BorisPoludo 3 months ago
@krisda132 One system box - two dual heads. Three monitors regardless what people say worth it big time. At least it works out for me really well. This way I don't have to constatly flip between windows instead having everything including the sequencer, the plugins and what I do is as you see I have one on the left completely dedicated to the manual, if you want to make anything more or less decent you must work your manual. e.g. somethig like sidechaining you will never learn without a manual
BorisPoludo 3 months ago 2
@BorisPoludo okay, what is not special about 'two simple dual heads'? that guy probably only has a regular ass video card.

LOL
lukegraver 3 months ago
@BorisPoludo i learnt sidechaining on youtube
SGwizard1 3 months ago
@BorisPoludo uh no more or less decent? no friend you dont need three monitors to make good mixes, its personal preference, your not better then other people just because you have more somewhat useless gear then other people, I'll take good ears then three monitors anyday

@guitarpornographer You mean the keystudio? I've got one too, what's wrong with it?
Denyernator 2 months ago
@Denyernator its just cheap and nasty. it serves a purpose however and i guess i kinda do love it in a way. weighted keys really do make a hell of a difference though
guitarpornographer 2 months ago
@guitarpornographer Yeah I suppose it depends on what you want to do with it. My brother has a full on electric piano with weighted keys which he uses for inputting MIDI, but he's doing a composition degree, so things like dynamics and phrasing are important for that. I just use mine for synth tracks and such.
Denyernator 2 months ago
@Denyernator totally man. its not a bad piece of kit for £70, does the job

Ótimo programa. Bons monitores de vídeo. Tudo quase perfeito.
Apenas um errinho- Seus monitores de áudio estão na posição errada.
Deveriam estar na vertical.
Abraços.

@BorisPoludo
Exactly, for the price they cant be beat. Allthough the dell ultrasharp's are far far better than any mac screen, and cost about the same. If thats the budget, you would be crazy to not get them.

is the keyboard m-audio? and is it good?
Djflow997 4 months ago
@Djflow997 It is M-AUDIO KeyRig 49 MIDI controller. It was about a 100 bucks a year ago and it is as good as one can expect for 100 bucks but considering this is just a MIDI controller I think M-AUDIO could do a little better in terms of quality. If I was buying one now I would definitely go a something better than that, the wheels are ok I guess but the but the volume slider is really cheap. check out Aguarium, Highway and Bulgaria in my vids, I used this controller in those. Thanks.
BorisPoludo 4 months ago
@Djflow997 its awesome. go get the one with the 49 keys for just 130 dollars or euro. im about to do it

what speakers are they?
SolidRecordz 4 months ago
@SolidRecordz Those are MACKIE R5 active monitors. They are totally awesome, lots of power and lows are really nice and round, the sound is crystal clear but the most important thing they do the job really well, I mean in terms of monitoring the output, I thy my mixes in diff sound systems after and the sound is very consistent.

JJROADSTA 4 months ago
@BorisPoludo I have a main monitor which is samsung and thought that 2 of these would go perfect either side so I think Im gonna get them
JJROADSTA 4 months ago
To the OP, Nice setup bro! @david13detroit @darrenguitar a properly isolated monitor doesn't matter if it's on it's side or upright. you can mount them at 45deg angles if your room is appropriate. if you 2 were going to wax intellectual about anything, these monitors are clearly not at optimum height sitting on the desk. they should be at ear height, not pointed at your chest, seems they are also not isolated from the desk surface which creates radiant sounds and interferes with the field.
waterkeeper03 4 months ago
@waterkeeper03 Thanks for your comment. I am aware of the monitor issue. Those monitor pads that have a layer of steel in the middle and also angle monitor appropriately, just still trying to find it in me to spend 250 bucks for monitor pads. I am thinking to trading all this for macbook pro. Thanks Again. B.
BorisPoludo 4 months ago
@BorisPoludo I'm not gonna harass you about your setup like some people would. you put your money in, it looks great. whatever is important to your budget bro. People seem to really like these Auralex brand isolation pads. 40 USD for a set.. I just got my set of monitors ordered. Yamaha hs80m. I'm going to start with just a piece of damping foam under them, texture side down is supposed to be adequate. if not I'm going to opt for stands... anyway, Good Luck to you man.
