Yes, that's right. The reason is out of concern of them going feral. Wild rabbits have been a huge problem in Australia over a very long time and there is concern about domestic rabbits adding to that. The counter argument is that we have had over 100 million wild rabbits and domestic rabbits wouldn't survive in the wild even if they were able to escape and make their way to the bush. I actually don't think domestic rabbits would be a threat. Out of words

Oh yes it's true. They are legal in other parts of Australia but not Queensland. Ferrets and koi carp are illegal here too. Australia as a whole is strict about animal control and quarantine, we don't have many exotic pets. Some friends of mine in the US have pet wallabies from Australia but we are not allowed them.

@MichaelClive Yeah because idots turn them loose just for the heck of it or they hawl-them-off, by dumping them in parks or any place convenient at night, where they can't be seen doing it. It's sad that responsible pet owners can't have them as pets, because of irresponsible people. Maybe someday. Don't they have the same issues with Cats and Dogs? People dump them all the time too.
