i placed a video response with our show...well same show but with some of the music changed....umm i think its good....but i like ours a bit better XD....y dont u check it out XD
Yall are awesome. I had Eric Stambaugh when I was in HS. Liberal High School, in Southwest KS. I remember how hard he worked us, so I kinda empathize with ya, but envy you at the same time. Keep up the good work, and kill at any festival that you go to. I know yall can do it. MARCHING BAND ROCKS!!!!!!!!
The low brass in this band is so overpowering. I kind of like it, since its so rare I suppose. It's almost always trumpets that are over powering. It's nice to know that there really is schools out there with great low brass sections :) Unlike my old high school...
I just realized that this was not a Texas Band. I don't know how hard other states rate their bands at UIL or festivals, but Texas bands are rated at very high standards and I still think if this was a UIL contest it would have been a 3. Does anyone know how this band actually did at UIL, I would like to know if they cleaned it up to get a 1?
The band didn't perform this show or compete outside the state of Kansas. But they did perform two weeks later at a popular Kansas competition and did even better.
Overall, I really like the volume of the Impacts/Climaxes, I think the band could be balanced a lot more. I think the woodwind sound could be more pronounced when featured. I really didn't hear much of a dynamic contrast through out the show. In some of the more technical parts in the music i feel that the brass needs to clean up their diction and work together to sound like one. The drill seems medium & easy to clean. Overall I really liked the energy. Possible UIL ratings (3,3,2). III good
Great show! I do agree with trummer06 about standing still a lot but not on the trumpet comment. Part of the style of a marching show is a lot of trumpet.
Also, every director has a different interpretation of how a show could be; so don't bash another school's show if it's not exactly the same as your school did it.
sounds like you have alot of trumpets but.. there were a TON of trumpet parts that are important in that show that wernt heard...i know the parts i played trumpet in this show as well, and with a band that big... you all stood still alot. now i know its not the band making decisions you did well with what you all were given it was a good show, good job.
My understanding is that the drill was composed by a director at Vanderbilt University. He was one of the judges at the competition where this video was shot.
Any time you start a comment "no offense but..." you are going to offend somebody.
Your director chose to perform his own interpretation, as did this director. Having heard and viewed the Watervliet video I suppose I still prefer this one. It provides more artistic liberties with the music and visuals with the Color Guard.
yeah she's from granite city not watervliet so you still dont know what our version of the show is the watervliet person said the did it LAST year the doggie girl said this year so its two different schools
We just did this show this year, at my school. And no offense but i think we did better, that beginninng thing was a mellophone solo, which mello is the best, cause i play it, lol but it's good though. Theyre kinda outta tune at times. You guys really dragged in the first movement too. Sorry. lol It's supposed to be like 172 or something. And your going like 100! lol jk i dont know how fast your going but its definatley not 172.
pretty sure you're not the only band that has performed this piece we did. im sure there was a band that performed it before you guys that your director thought was awesome. every band cannot perform a show that has never been played.

If you listen to the recording done by Gary Gilroy (the composer/arranger), the tempos are very similar. Maybe 10-15 bpm different, at most.
