I dont think Ben is autotuned. It just sounds like there was a problem with the sound and Ben is rocking back and forth which could explain the "reverb" like sound.

People on these videos have no idea what they are talking about. First off, Reverb is not an 'effect' or spacey echo. It just adds a reverberation sound that is made naturally from sound waves echoing. It helps make things sound less dry and gives it that bounce back sound. Reverb is used during almost every recording and live performance ever. Even here. And Ben isn't using auto tune. His voice is just jumping from him jumping up and down.

im in audio recording classes in college and i really dont think ben is autotuned, im in class with a lot of rappers/dj's and this doesnt sound like autotune, i really think if anything it might be a bit reverby, but who knows..

that is totally autotune. if you listen to older live stuff, you'll hear a difference. plus i've worked with it and this is it on a high setting. in live situations, he does kinda need it. lol

@10stripJ Ben is completely against autotune in any form. He jumped on the train when Jay-Z did the whole Death to Autotune thing. You can hear how perfect his pitch is now, but he's literally just practiced so much that he doesn't mess up anymore. The little jumps in his voice are from the way that he rocks his body back and forth. I promise, ben gibbard will never use autotune. He's the rawest musician out there.

Yeah there's something very strange about the vocals on this - it's not as smooth as typical live Death Cab recordings, and there's a lot of points where it sounds like pretty clear autotune - but let me also suggest that heavy compression, along with the echo effect on his voice, could also be to blame for the odd sound of the vocals here.
