no im pretty sure thats just the sound of you stepping with your left foot, it's likely each step sound is randomly chosen from variety of stepping/grass rubbing against paints sound.
no animal call sorry. animal calls aren't that frequent and they would be a lot louder.
immersive game though isnt it?

Additionally. I think the footstep sounds have got an echo by default...listen again
