- it was designed as ultraportable, so it's much closer to being a netbook than an actual desktop replacement, so treat it accordingly.
- please, for the love of god, stop comparing it with products that are brand new! It is almost three years old! How did you expect it to hold up against brand new lenovos or HPs?
It all depends on what you're using the computer for. Gamers should choose pc for it's customization, artists or media workers should choose Mac for it's wide variety of insanely innovative applications.
My own mom has fallen for this "everything has come down to this" crap. Instead of listening to me, my dad, or my brother of which three tech savvy minds are present, she is angered by our attempts to convince her that there are laptops way better for cheaper. She shuts down all conversations we attempt to politely start. Now she plans to spend upwards of 1,500 dollars on her Air. You could get an INSANELY powerful desktop or a REALLY good laptop for that price!
@PenguInspiration That's what I don't get. Why would you buy a computer for anything BUT the specs? That's what makes the computer, and it's not like a Microsoft OS is hard to operate. Both are relatively simple. Macintosh software can be obtained on a PC with not much struggle. Keynote, for example, is a five dollar purchase. Additionally, "boot-camps" are available, and made relatively simple for those who absolutely need the other OS. Videos can be found on YouTube, making the process easy.
@ManiacMaurer I have to agree that specs make up more of the computer than how it looks. Apple quality of their own proprietary hardware just seems to be different. It's not entirely worth the extra price, but it's worth a little extra.
I hate the mac book air with such a fucking passion. Apple in general has disappointed me and angered me. Instead of doing research and getting the facts, people buy into the "Apple is so cool" bullshit. Like, oh it's so magical because it's small and clean looking, so now it's worth paying 700 dollars more than I should! Partially, it's people just not knowing what the specs mean, and their ignorance towards the FACT that there are better computers for cheaper. Ignorance should NOT be bliss!
@troidberg It's cool, but when I was 12 I got the new MacBook (regular one), but it was the cheapest one they had at the time. It was the unibody with the multi-touch and that kind of technology, and the air was like $1499. Now you can get the Air for cheaper. But I would recommend the MacBook Pro 13". MUCH better performance, more solid, basic features (ports and disc drive). But whatever. Good luck getting your grades up ^_^

it is possible to play on them but they arent made for it so do not expect to be able to play some games maxed out which the Alienware would be easy to do.

@SeventhSandwich Im sorry but the m11x has 2gb ram, 1.4ghz processor and is classed as one of the best prtable gaming laptops available. Granted it has a better GPU but the mac can play a few good games at a lower res and graphic setting. Do your research!
I own a Macbook 2008 model with superior hardware then the Macbook Air and it cannot run WoW (which is one of the least hardware-heavy games available) over 20 fps.
The operating system it self sucks at playing games.
The GPU makes the biggest difference because almost any processor can handle any game, the GPU is what really gives the fps boosts.
@SeventhSandwich It is more capable. Maybe you are just used to having windows bog down your gaming! bcuz it runs crysis, the sims 3, nfs carbon, COD 4, COD MW. so what was that whole 5fps thing again?
@SeventhSandwich So it jumps from "Prove it!!!" to "Oh well that game is 3 years old..." lol u don't like macs because you can't afford one. This is a damn impressive machine! And most PC's Can NOT play that game.
And as for Crysis, because the Macbook Air video you were showing me was running it on low settings, I'm going to compare the same way. A potato could run Crysis at those settings. I'm not very impressed with games that look that horrible. Also, for the same cost as your overpriced Macbook Air, I could get a Toshiba Qosmia that actually has an appropriate amount of USB ports.
Not to mention the fact that it has a Nvidia 320M chipset which is integrated(shit, if you know anything about computer hardware), and can only run on a notebook using a core 2 duo processor which is quite outdated in the modern world. The benchmarks for it for CoD black ops is around 40 on Low, 28, on Med, and 4 on high. Add that to the fact Mac OS X's OpenGL support is fucking awful, you'll get about half those numbers.
Then again, I wouldn't expect you to know anything about this because you, like most people who actually like Apple computers, buy them because they are shiny and thin and don't have sharp edges.

@WarpeaceWar6 I was saying you could. Mine is a lot more powerful. I paid $1300 and it has 16gigs of ram+4.6Ghz (overclocked). I could easily do 5ghz but it would be very unstable. And Macs overall barely give the owner customization. I used to have a Mac and it sucked. It cost me $2200 for everything and it barely was worth the price.
one usb drive, no cd drive, no ethernet port. if you pay extra for the (optional) cd drive then your only usb drive is used up. unless you pay extra for a usb hub too.

All of you who are fighting about this computer forget two important things about it:
- it was designed as ultraportable, so it's much closer to being a netbook than an actual desktop replacement, so treat it accordingly.
- please, for the love of god, stop comparing it with products that are brand new! It is almost three years old! How did you expect it to hold up against brand new lenovos or HPs?

My own mom has fallen for this "everything has come down to this" crap. Instead of listening to me, my dad, or my brother of which three tech savvy minds are present, she is angered by our attempts to convince her that there are laptops way better for cheaper. She shuts down all conversations we attempt to politely start. Now she plans to spend upwards of 1,500 dollars on her Air. You could get an INSANELY powerful desktop or a REALLY good laptop for that price!

@PenguInspiration That's what I don't get. Why would you buy a computer for anything BUT the specs? That's what makes the computer, and it's not like a Microsoft OS is hard to operate. Both are relatively simple. Macintosh software can be obtained on a PC with not much struggle. Keynote, for example, is a five dollar purchase. Additionally, "boot-camps" are available, and made relatively simple for those who absolutely need the other OS. Videos can be found on YouTube, making the process easy.

@ManiacMaurer I have to agree that specs make up more of the computer than how it looks. Apple quality of their own proprietary hardware just seems to be different. It's not entirely worth the extra price, but it's worth a little extra.

I hate the mac book air with such a fucking passion. Apple in general has disappointed me and angered me. Instead of doing research and getting the facts, people buy into the "Apple is so cool" bullshit. Like, oh it's so magical because it's small and clean looking, so now it's worth paying 700 dollars more than I should! Partially, it's people just not knowing what the specs mean, and their ignorance towards the FACT that there are better computers for cheaper. Ignorance should NOT be bliss!

@troidberg It's cool, but when I was 12 I got the new MacBook (regular one), but it was the cheapest one they had at the time. It was the unibody with the multi-touch and that kind of technology, and the air was like $1499. Now you can get the Air for cheaper. But I would recommend the MacBook Pro 13". MUCH better performance, more solid, basic features (ports and disc drive). But whatever. Good luck getting your grades up ^_^

@blackhawk438 i kinda think its the same...but i would get the macbook cos if you look on gaming vids on it it works perfect...plus its really hard to get a virus on a mac and its a lot cooler looking and lighter...im on the apple side cos i never had problems with them and if you would rather have windows then u can download it on the mac-my friend did it... the last reason i think the macbook air is better is cos there built strong...so over all i think the macbook is almost twice as good

already got a Alienware M17x so i could make a video about that. but it is to be honist kind of a question because mac's arent made for gaming.
it is possible to play on them but they arent made for it so do not expect to be able to play some games maxed out which the Alienware would be easy to do.
1 negative point of the alienware... it sounds like a leafblower and its getting really hot.

@SeventhSandwich Im sorry but the m11x has 2gb ram, 1.4ghz processor and is classed as one of the best prtable gaming laptops available. Granted it has a better GPU but the mac can play a few good games at a lower res and graphic setting. Do your research!

I own a Macbook 2008 model with superior hardware then the Macbook Air and it cannot run WoW (which is one of the least hardware-heavy games available) over 20 fps.
The operating system it self sucks at playing games.
The GPU makes the biggest difference because almost any processor can handle any game, the GPU is what really gives the fps boosts.

And as for Crysis, because the Macbook Air video you were showing me was running it on low settings, I'm going to compare the same way. A potato could run Crysis at those settings. I'm not very impressed with games that look that horrible. Also, for the same cost as your overpriced Macbook Air, I could get a Toshiba Qosmia that actually has an appropriate amount of USB ports.

Not to mention the fact that it has a Nvidia 320M chipset which is integrated(shit, if you know anything about computer hardware), and can only run on a notebook using a core 2 duo processor which is quite outdated in the modern world. The benchmarks for it for CoD black ops is around 40 on Low, 28, on Med, and 4 on high. Add that to the fact Mac OS X's OpenGL support is fucking awful, you'll get about half those numbers.

@itzMehPreet i could easily buy a computer with better spec than the MBA. look at the competition for the MBA and youll see that this is the strongest ultraportable on the market. the only thing that comes close is the series 9 which id hope is better since its 6 months newer and expensive with crap quality. I'm sure theres a computer nerd that built a better computer than yours for less, theres none that can do that for the MBA making it a super powerful computer

@WarpeaceWar6 I was saying you could. Mine is a lot more powerful. I paid $1300 and it has 16gigs of ram+4.6Ghz (overclocked). I could easily do 5ghz but it would be very unstable. And Macs overall barely give the owner customization. I used to have a Mac and it sucked. It cost me $2200 for everything and it barely was worth the price.

one usb drive, no cd drive, no ethernet port. if you pay extra for the (optional) cd drive then your only usb drive is used up. unless you pay extra for a usb hub too.
