  • the tail of this shark indicates that it is a Thresher shark. They usually don't come in the surf because their tails are so heavy that they get ko'ed, as it did here in this situation. It would not have bite anyone if they went in and escorted it back to non breaking water. He was too tired to bite from trying to get past those breakers. They are fairly harmless (they do bite, though. not just as often as other species), but their tails will give you a good whack if you piss them off.
