You know, I've not seen the film so can't comment whether its actually lousy in and of itself. But it seems to capture the surrealism and dry wit of the original series. I wonder why it tanked so much? So many movies that are made from TV series fail Because they miss the vibe of the original so much (qv Theunderbirds, I Spy, etc), but this seemed to be trying very hard to maintain what made the series work so well. Was it simply times had changed? Should they have just gone for laughs?
How come nobody but me acknowledges that Ralph Fiennes (lord voldemort) Jim Broadbent (professor slughorn), and Fiona shaw (aunt petunia), are in this 3 years befor harry potter, does that amaze anybody but ME?
@ctdsnark You should see the series. It's even better. Exspecially the Emma Peel episodes. If you're a guy then you would fall in love with Diana Rigg as Emma Peel. Girls too, because they would want to be like her. She's the best. Diana Rigg as played Tracy Bond in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" too.
I've now seen the entire movie, and it was really good, but I prefer to wait until Warner Bros. releases the Director's Cut of the film. Also, Patrick Macnee's cameo as Invisible Jones was good. It also would have been nice to see Diana Rigg and or Honor Blackman in the film, though.
I second that. It would have been very nice to see Diana Rigg in "The Avengers" movie. I'm guessing for one reason she wasn't because she wouldn't want to do anything with "The Avengers" no more. She would prefer to move on from the past. She didn't have much of a good time working on the show. Except for being friends with Patrick and having the loving fans, but other than that she wasn't too happy. But I would have loved to see her in the movie though. :D
Is Uma supposed to be English in this? Sometimes she kinda has an accent but most of the film she doesn't.

Man I love all these action- and adventures movies of the 90'ies!

I really loved the almost deadpan delivery given by Fiennes as his bowler hat got (stabbed? torn?) and he spat, "You'll pay for that!"
An attempt at being serious or not, "The Avengers" does have the (occasionally) funny moment.

I'm a huge fan of the series but still haven't seen this movie. It looks Batman & Robin bad, but I can't say I'm not curious.

I never saw the TV series---I like it because it was a surreal spy movie,so completely unlike any of the James Bond films.

@KiCreativeStudios
yes, it was maligned by critics for reasons unknown.
it was campy ans silly just like the original series. also incredibly stylish and well photographed as well.

Yeah but I preferred seeing Ralph Fiennes as the good guy for once. He should do it more often.
southerncajuncharm 7 months ago
@southerncajuncharm I've only seen him in a couple of things. His Goeth was chilling. That's a real actor. He's a real pig in In Bruges ( title? ) .

Yeah thats what its called. He was awesome in that tho. I enjoy cheering for him and wish I could do it more often.

I enjoyed watching this film ....
... it's a pitty the producers didn't find a new cast for a new production ... Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes were great !!!
