I'm not sure why they would compare the $64k Corvette vs the $50k Shelby, but I bought my 2011 Grand Sport for $48k and some change. Came with dual mode exhaust, magnetic ride control, and competition gray wheels. Better deal, IMHO.

And even if it wasn't faked somehow(meaning the Ferrari driver was an amputee or something), "El Diablo" is still just a low 13 second car, as opposed to the low 12s run by both the GT500 and Corvette GS.

Even though its not faster mustang is still my favorite. You get nearly the same power for a mutch cheaper price. And corvettes are so low to the ground they cant go over a speed bump, the mustang is actually capable of being a daily driver...

@rm005 that is a stock corvette. the grand sport is essentially the same as the regular vette with a package that features better brakes and suspension. they weren't very clear of that though.

Speed is nothing new. Racecars have done virtually the same speeds since the 60s. Power and speed in a car today is a decission. Not an achievement. European cars cost more because USA taxes imports to protect domestic brands and your dollar aint what it was. So naturally anything you buy from abroad WILL be more expensive. Then ofcourse american cars are cheaply built with few modern features. Why not try to build some quality just once. Maybe someone outside USA would buy it.

For All those wondering about the Stock GT vs ZR1 here's some news for yeah, the ZR1 is 5 years newer, so it took Chev 5 years to even barely outmatch the GT, as for teh TWIN Turbo GT, it's putting 1,000hp to the wheels not engine, the wheels, one could go back and forth btw thesed two iconic cars, there wil be pros and cons to both, people on both side of the fence, the GT is by far better in my opinion, the ZR1 is a nice ride..Reason GT is 5 years older and still running with the ZR1 numbers
@LuricRaja2 The GT is a great car but it is outclassed in every category by the ZR1. Too bad Ford fans are stuck with overweight nose heavy mustang with unibody construction and tiny 285 rear tires. The new 5.0s are being built with chinese made manual transmissions which are already proven to be garbage. And by the way the ZR1 from the early 90's will still outperform a new 5.0 mustang so who is really behind.

@itchytasty100 Every GT500 starts at the Shelby Performance plant, if you thnk it's stock then read a little more on your Mustang History. There is nothing Stock about a GT500. they take the GT chasis, and then send it to Shelby, Shelby then supercharges the engine, put performance upgrades up the wazzu on her and then sends her out to the dealerships, Ford has the licence to sell them, Shelby is the one who builds them...Don't believe me Check out the New GT350 interview, they show the process

GM did a bad thing by returning the GS as a Z51! The GS was suppose to be superior to the Zr1, not the Z51! Hopefully that's one of the things that GM fixes in the C7. The GS should be at top of the line not the Zr1. The GS should be the ultimate premium Corvette trim.
I have to admit, the gt500 has a way nicer fit and finish inside than the corvette does. The mustang has always been a fatty.....hopefully engineers can trim some of the fat in the future, no need to bump horsepower really, just gotta work on the love handles. I don't think corvettes were made to compete with stangs...that's the camaro's job. Me personally....I love cars like my women......with a fat ass:)
Anyway, I thought the lap times would be interesting at least, I am trying to circulate this info as much as possible. I was also told that a local guy ran his Boss 302 LS at a 7:45-7:49 which is right on par with the BMW M3 GTS and the Audi R8 V10 but this, along with everything else I was told is all hearsay. I did however, confirm a 7:35 from the red GT500 and a 7:43 from the black car via a club members stop watch so...
I can see a 7:30 and a 7:40 from these cars. There was speculation about the Red GT500 being a Nurburgring edition and the other being a future production GT500 SVTPP. There was speculation that maybe one was a manual and one was an auto and that one was a 2012 and the red one was a 2013.... either way, they were both very fast and ran most of the day for most of the week...
The Shelby is a muscle car not a sports car, of course it's gonna lose to the vette. Put both cars on slicks and run em down the 1320. Gt500 will win every time.
Those are fact times done by real drivers the car pulls the same g as a zo6 and beats face the facts the cheap Audi r8 100,000 plus car to a 50,000 and it beat the gtr lol!

@HelimanZ06 you are absolutly right and not only did they add the new sport cup tires to the z06 and zr1, but they did more aerodymaics tuning, rear spoiler, and better pistons pumping out a little more hp (around 7hp) making them (especially the zr1) the ultimate supercar, especially for the price. They have better times now faster acceleration and top speed and are the best!
I'm not sure why they would compare the $64k Corvette vs the $50k Shelby, but I bought my 2011 Grand Sport for $48k and some change. Came with dual mode exhaust, magnetic ride control, and competition gray wheels. Better deal, IMHO.

That makes it about as fast as a V6 Mustang, so I call bullshit. And even if it wasn't faked somehow(meaning the Ferrari driver was an amputee or something), "El Diablo" is still just a low 13 second car, as opposed to the low 12s run by both the GT500 and Corvette GS.

And NASCAR racers and F1 cars are NOT in the same price bracket at all. Factoring in designing, building and the costs of running them, a single F1 car costs MILLIONS of dollars. A NASCAR racer is in the hundreds of thousands.

Speed is nothing new. Racecars have done virtually the same speeds since the 60s. Power and speed in a car today is a decission. Not an achievement. European cars cost more because USA taxes imports to protect domestic brands and your dollar aint what it was. So naturally anything you buy from abroad WILL be more expensive. Then ofcourse american cars are cheaply built with few modern features. Why not try to build some quality just once. Maybe someone outside USA would buy it.

When GM was pushed by congress and Obama to modernise and build better cars, they took the bailout money and simply moved to Korea. These cars arent american cars built in Korea. For All those wondering about the Stock GT vs ZR1 here's some news for yeah, the ZR1 is 5 years newer, so it took Chev 5 years to even barely outmatch the GT, as for teh TWIN Turbo GT, it's putting 1,000hp to the wheels not engine, the wheels, one could go back and forth btw thesed two iconic cars, there wil be pros and cons to both, people on both side of the fence, the GT is by far better in my opinion, the ZR1 is a nice ride..Reason GT is 5 years older and still running with the ZR1 numbers

There is nothing Stock about a GT500. they take the GT chasis, and then send it to Shelby, Shelby then supercharges the engine, put performance upgrades up the wazzu on her and then sends her out to the dealerships, Ford has the licence to sell them, Shelby is the one who builds them...Don't believe me Check out the New GT350 interview, they show the process

@itchytasty100 actualy the only thing they did to it is replace intake, re tune it and put 2 turbos on, everything else is stock. some GT had supercharged from factory and believe me they go, not hating on the vette it's a sweet ride as well. just saying :-)

the boss is faster than the gt500
so the boss is half a second faster than the base z06 at lc(z06 set in 05)
the z06c is 3 sec faster and the 2012 will be even faster
you guys have to know the difference, if the car is built for the track, which the 302 is, its gonna be faster

GM did a bad thing by returning the GS as a Z51! The GS was suppose to be superior to the Zr1, not the Z51! Hopefully that's one of the things that GM fixes in the C7. The GS should be at top of the line not the Zr1. The GS should be the ultimate premium Corvette trim.

I have to admit, the gt500 has a way nicer fit and finish inside than the corvette does. The mustang has always been a fatty.....hopefully engineers can trim some of the fat in the future, no need to bump horsepower really, just gotta work on the love handles. I don't think corvettes were made to compete with stangs...that's the camaro's job. Me personally....I love cars like my women......with a fat ass:)

Anyway, I thought the lap times would be interesting at least, I am trying to circulate this info as much as possible. I was also told that a local guy ran his Boss 302 LS at a 7:45-7:49 which is right on par with the BMW M3 GTS and the Audi R8 V10 but this, along with everything else I was told is all hearsay. I did however, confirm a 7:35 from the red GT500 and a 7:43 from the black car via a club members stop watch so...

I can see a 7:30 and a 7:40 from these cars. There was speculation about the Red GT500 being a Nurburgring edition and the other being a future production GT500 SVTPP. There was speculation that maybe one was a manual and one was an auto and that one was a 2012 and the red one was a 2013.... either way, they were both very fast and ran most of the day for most of the week...

Regardless the Laguna Secs is a small 2 mile track with one difficult turn the rest is mostly straights... What about on the 174 turn Nurburgring? @HelimanZ06 you are absolutly right and not only did they add the new sport cup tires to the z06 and zr1, but they did more aerodymaics tuning, rear spoiler, and better pistons pumping out a little more hp (around 7hp) making them (especially the zr1) the ultimate supercar, especially for the price. They have better times now faster acceleration and top speed and are the best!
