  • How old are you people? i'm 26 (just want to see the different generation who like REAL music)

  • What I love the most about this song is obviously the instrumentation and the deep lyrics, but that these men could SING their butts off.

    Classic!

  • true classic song" I love the lyrics.

  • yeah!

  • Little Dutch woman here is FAN for ages!

  • FYI this is the short radio edit!!! No wonder 25 dislikes, not what I heard jamming down my HS hallways LOL

  • Lady Gaga will be there just like Madonna is before WAR is even considered. Talent has nothing to do with it!

  • quality all the way

  • Thx- and today: the world is a Gettho. Great!

  • This is like bread to me, I grow up on this good music, made me think and re-evaluate myself. Back in the day music was a definitely a way to deal with the struggles of life. War, along with many groups in the 70's made music that touched our souls and spirits, the use of language in a positive way to uplife. I PLAYED THE GROOVES OFF THIS ONE!!! LOVE IT!!!!

  • thankyou. the extended version's not on youtube.

  • One of the BEST original talent bands, EVER! Incredible blent of talented musicians. Strong urban sound, very soulful! R&B at it's VERY BEST! 5-STARS!

  • As a kid, it was impossible to imagine white people with wounds to bind and having to go to the corner to buy something to ease their pain. Now I understand..."The world IS a ghetto..."

  • War, Tower of Power, Santana, Sly, Malo the best of the the 70's Cali urban sounds. Always keepin it real. Peace out!

  • MUSIC with CAPITAL letters and substance!

  • It really just makes me want to go back to those good days. The world was better us.

  • @classpost1 I feel the same way those days was the best back then i love those days and back then i did not have to pay rent or bills

  • Je découvre le groupe, la version de the world is a ghetto et c'est Géant! je connaissais l'interprétation de George Benson, mais pas celle là. Great!!!

  • Man, been reading about this crooked producer who ripped off Sly Stone and WAR... Thats so sad...Gotta own your copyrights to your songs.. I grew up listening to WAR in the 70's... these dudes where very underrated.. Keep your heads up .... Stay true to your craft...Gotta hear some of this Lowriderband... You Are still WAR to me...

  • yeah war was a good group

  • @Twinyo100, The original guys from WAR who are now called THE LOWRIDER BAND are STILL a kick ass band! Just saw them a couple of months ago and they still "GET DOWN"!!

  • Anyone see the preview for the new Sly Stone documentary, ON THE SLY: In Search of the Family Stone?

  • @OntheSlyify, Looks very interesting. Check out "sly sues his former manager" here on YouTube and you may get a better understanding of why SLY is where he's at now. That same "manager" is the very same man who MANAGED to steal the WAR name and copywrites from the 5 surviving original artists of WAR, four who call themselves THE LOWRIDER BAND now, because they refused to be OWNED by this conniving manager for the WAR name. GET YOURS SLY and ORIGINAL WAR!!!

  • @lowriderbandfan I have heard about that. I know bits and pieces. That sucks that WAR had to change their names. I love WAR (the band, I mean).

  • For me...and for you...

  • This album cover is telling at least 10 different stories. This is fillmo to me in the seventies..

  • Low rider fan, we behind ya..Jerry you'll get what's coming to ya. Song rings truer than ever. Vote 2012, my friends, defeat fascism.

  • this shit brings back crazy memories. when i was hanging with my family. (PADILLAS) I MISS MY DOGGS..... MR GIANT, MR LARGO STRAIT OG's from the PACOIMA PROJECT FLATS. house full of naked bitches. "DEED THE FUCK OUT BACK IN 1995".

  • Stravinsky caused a riot when he performed one of his pieces. If a tune gets no dislikes then it's not compelling. I would like to have the force of artistic creationthat would launch me to 2,000 likes and 24 dislikes. I do wonder where the dislikes come from - were they listening to cisco kid or a remix by too short?

  • To the 24 haters of this song get a life. I bet you dislike your life as well. I love war this is one of my all time favorite band .

  • 24 dislikes don't know how 2 survive in the street's & never will!!!!!!!

  • Those 24 dislikes don't know nothin about growing up in the hood!!!!!!!

  • awwwwww thats the point true lirics ;)

  • i remember my dad had this record

  • 24 do not like this and 101 do not like "Why Can't We Be Friends". Sad. Very sad.

  • What a group... like butter dripping of the moon

  • one of the best songs of all time. reminds me of my POPS. R.I.P 3/10/09 LOVE U DAD!

  • Words cannot express the places in my head that this song takes me.

  • WAR fans....make sure to give your WAR fan respect and propers to the four original WAR artists of THE LOWRIDER BAND. THEY ARE WAR but without their WAR name that THEY made famous, because the fake band that tours with the WAR name today is using it for Jerry Goldstein's gain and Lonnie Jordan's ego. Learn the truth, unless you like paying to hear a WAR cover band, then knock yourself out.

  • "Made In America" Fiend

  • I still love this album, I still have the vinyl 33. I am very proud of my vinyl collection. You should try to listen to "Three cornered room". Brings back nice memories of the 70"s. Wish it were like that now. So much more simpler time to have lived.

  • @TiTiDianeN four cornered room!!

  • @mmcsedward1 yeah, yeah, after I wrote it I knew I messed up. Guess some brain cells have died.

  • @TiTiDianeN If you remember the 70's, you weren't there. ;)

  • @Dreams553 I remember them, just a little "hazy" lol

  • THIS IS ONE OF ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUM COVERS !!!

  • I was 8yrs old when this song came out...my uncle had the album...wonderful times back then

  • Comment removed

  • i love this old music takes me back to the time it came out.beautiful music...

  • Classic. When all is said and done War is still underrated. They should be in everybody's hall of fame.

  • I'm jammin'

  • If you like these lyrics, try "Why Can't We Be Friends". War was the coolest "mixed cultural" group with strong L.A./Mexican roots.

  • @Palmerbeepee1 afro cuban

  • honestly awsome tune!

  • Life is rough

  • LIFE is rough ....

  • Do you have the full length version 10:15 of The World is a Ghetto?

  • damm starght just listen to the music it says it all talkin from the p/js

  • My mom had this album, way back in the late 70's. I remember looking at it and being amazed at the art work.

  • Here's another...

Marshall Tucker Band - 24 Hours

  • Awesome, now, listen to "Gypsy Man", then search for Johnny Cash "Sunday Morning Coming Down".

  • Yea, we’ve all done our patriotic duty, now we’re driving from Philly down to the shore in Margate,

Drinking all the way listening to Eric Burdon declaring WAR!!!!!!!!!!

  • Are you kidding me??? 4 part harmony with fantastic lyrics--I miss the 70s

  • Oh drat! You're right lowriderbandfan. I got too excited for the tunes. Thanks for the clarification.

  • Saw WAR this year and they still played this beautiful.

  • @Marigoulamou,That wasn't WAR.The legitimate WAR band anyway. Most of the ORIGINAL artists of WAR are now called the LOWRIDER BAND and they still play this and THEIR WAR songs like they should be played, by the REAL artists of WAR. Drop by my channel for the truth. Peace.

  • This is a real band that played music from the 70s that soulful funk, for real.

  • My senior year H.S. N.Y.C Christmas 1972 my god where has the time gone!

  • what the hell happened to music

  • Now that you know...a great tune!

  • 24 people still don't get it..and never will

  • @TheMatrixPipe too true and its sad

  • @kathrynj60

    Indeed !

  • @TheMatrixPipe those 24 are in the tea party

  • @tblacc11

    Ha,ha,ha, good one!

  • @TheMatrixPipe I'm trying to figure out what's not to like about this song.. maybe they were mad that this was the short version.. yea.. that's it..

  • Back then, in the early 70's we thought we'd be in such a better place, accepting each other finally, all this time later.

  • I know that there was a record by this group War -Deliver the world if some one can find please post .

  • I still love this song! It takes me right back to growing up in South Tacoma in the 70s. Sears Toughskins, braces, shag haircuts and lots and lots of funk on KTAC. War was definitely a favorite.

  • @mylarboxers I am from Tacoma,

the 70s it was all out in front of us

    I can dig it

  • Peace 2 all

  • Nice song. From the old days. Didnt need any cussing or bitching. Just good old fashioned music!!

  • Thank the non denominational cat that oversees the world that my dad grew up in this time and had the good sense to save all of his old records, tapes, and reel to reels. Also thank the cat that my dad had such good taste in music in the first place

  • War could do it all & they didn't need 50 musicians on the stage!

  • Im only 17 and this song brings back so many memories

  • @richmondyayarea I'll be 51-years-old, and this song brings back so many fond memories of November / December, 1972 when I was eleven, going on twelve.

  • I always thought this song would outlast and outplay Low Rider. It's the same band and both songs are good but... this song was a song of a generation and of deep meaning. Man, this song is truer today than it was in 1973.

  • it's true espically in Detroit and in other big cities

  • WE GOTTA A HOME AND FAMLY AND WE'LL MAKE IT WORK FOR US..........

  • This is K-Billy, and you've just heard "The World is a Ghetto" by War...

  • I have seen rich and I am poor the world is poor to me and i pray that some day I will make some money and become someone for me and my little family.

Please say a pray for me and write me at nanettetron@att.net and give me your email. I accept donations for my song lyrics.

Amateur Song Writer, Nanette Yvonne Tron

  • me you the world love this

  • Wow, that's great. Thanks for uploading. Gotta check these guys' albums out now.

  • brings back memories

  • <3333

  • best of the best, love their lyrics, good memories listening to war, thanks to this group, your work has been a blessing n my life

  • This is such good, good music. Still love it today in 2011. First heard it in the 70's when it came out. Some bands always make an impression. This is one of them!

  • @riitade644 amen to that....this was a time of peace and love everywhere. I was born in 62 and I had the pleasure of soaking up all of these beautiful songs and great music!!!

  • @riitade644 allways wanted to jamm on my keyboards to them"to Smooth"". Jimi Jamm ''''''''''''

  • WAR has been nominated to the 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Please vote @ wwwrockhallcom and show these legends your appreciation for this song and all their other great WAR songs. Peace.

  • @lowriderbandfan They WILL get my vote, dont worry. Been waaaayyyyyy too long now.

  • I just heard this song for the first time today in a Starbucks in London....Wrote down the lyrics as it was playing and now I'm here.

Nearly 20 years before my time, but an absolutely great tune.

  • @mrquestion you know it!

  • @mrquestion you should purchase the entire CD of this classic. trust me if you liked it the entire work will please you. when it was first released most people that had it played it in iis entirety from end to end constantly.

  • @DONNIMETROPOLIS313 over and over and over

  • 22 corporate cogs with no soul disliked this.

  • War is anti-war, Violence is Square

The group War will get into the Rock Hall, but when it does happen it will be long overdue

But hey they always but a smile on my face with their collective dig at culture....highly developed on many plains

  • war a kik azz band 70s rock on~

  • the ghettos is filled with white people? i no think so

  • @sklovino i used to live in Sumner bout84 used to do shit lie that. Every one thought i was crazy.but i had a lot of fun.been put out alot of places back in Milwaukee.beer city.i saw war in vegas around the sae time you were being escortd from the theater good show.

  • I was just back from Vet-Nam and this was as good as you get. Living then in LA.and Simi Velley Ca.

  • The hall of shams is an icon to all thats wrong in our world! Talent unrewarded but money is!!! Another filthy institution. The words of this song say it all!!!

  • I'm humbled....

  • I got one name, Lee Osker, oh yeah that man plays the harp!

  • @sklovino, That's for sure! And you will find him with his OG bros of WAR, THE LOWRIDER BAND, a BROTHERHOOD for over 40 years now. Peace.

  • Love the original group, still like the guys touring now (Little Creek casino, Sept. 10, 2011). I did a cartwheel across the stage at a War concert in Tacoma, WA , the Temple theatre circa 1998, grabbed the keyboard players' microphone and screamed, " you guys need to dance more"! Promptly escorted out of the theatre by security. It was fun though.

  • @sklovino, I can't appreciate the WAR that tours today, because 4 OG's of WAR are STILL HERE to perform the WAR music that THEY created, while the COVER band with the STOLEN WAR name gets ALL the WAR credit and royalties for music they DID NOT create, except for Lonnie, and the original WAR OG's of THE LOWRIDER BAND get forgotten. So WRONG!

  • @UnAmericanBandstand Hello: I read the Fair Use Notice in the description and I was wondering if I have your permission to use it in the descriptions of music that I upload. To what extent is it valid, by the way? Thank you.

  • how many times do we have to backtrack and learn the same lessons, a great song always, thank you

  • my world ur world is a ghetto even if u r from beverly hills son los mas locos and thats a fact. the world is a ghetto good jam

  • WAR is one of the best groups EVER!!!!!

  • I was digging through my dads old vinyl and found this album, it looked interesting so I took it home with me and goddamn it's amazing!! Such an amazing find!

  • This song is so EPIC!!!!

  • Amazing how this is so becoming true for many of us in the world right before our eyes. Scary times we live in.

  • AGORA 1972 Columbus Ohio. Only white person there. Was treated like family.

  • @halBaby55 Thanks for your comment - a simple and poignant memory..

  • The World Is A Ghetto. Poetic words.

  • Από τα καλύτερα!!

Αυτό το κομάτι πολύ μου αρέσει ρε μάγκες!!!

  • @dppanos1 greek?

  • @BESTIACRUEL8

    yes i am!

  • @dppanos1 epeidh to eipe o sfakianakis se live tou? :P

  • @crazypoulada οχι ρε, δικο μου ειναι!

  • BEST BAND EVER !!!

  • So true! I love this band!!!

  • "Listen to the bass man play his riff, his name is BB, funky funky BB"....Giving propers and a Happy Birthday (Aug 3) SHOUT OUT to the man who wrote and sings this iconic song, the legendary BB Dickerson!!! Still KILLIN' IT with his OG bros of WAR, now known as THE LOWRIDER BAND.

  • ghetto indeed

    20 dislikes...Hmmmmm !

Ok, 20 Justin Bieber's fans got upset listening real music.

  • the world is a ...................

  • Fantastic group!

  • On to more "WAR" Ball of Confusion anyone. :P

  • War is in inducted to my memory forever !!!They should ave been millionaires. Great Music came at a cheap price. Now they make crap and the general public pays.

  • I was always impressed by the professionalism of WAR's bass guitarist Morris "B.B." Dickerson; He always brought the necessary passion to the tunes of WAR. May God bless him and his family.

  • people hate on good music because of the bullshit that controls their mind and tells them to disregard truth.

  • check george bensons version amazin but this is fine oh yeah

  • truth..

  • @Lowriderbandfan ; bro,put your hammer away 'cause you nailed it on the head.I'll say it for you,FUCK Eric Burden, and his fake assed band!!! RIP to Papa D, and the other band members who have gone on,I know they are spinning in their graves behind this. War was one of my favorite bands because they" Delivered The Word" with their " All Day Music. Peace to you!!! StonieDogStl.

  • @jdpatterson100,Thanks for 'deiivering the word' about WAR. Here's a few facts so WAR fans are not misled anymore than they already have.Today's WAR cover band is fronted by one OG of WAR, Lonnie Jordan. The other surviving members of WAR, Howard Scott, Lee Oskar, Harold Brown, BB Dickerson are now called THE LOWRIDER BAND, 'cause they didn't stoop to being OWNED by the THIEF who STOLE THEIR WAR NAME and copyrights. That loser's name is Jerry Goldstein.THE LOWRIDER BAND is the REAL WAR band. Peace

  • @lowriderbandfan this is sad. and i dont know why its this way for this and other great bands that have split like the ohio players for example. its really sad to me. almost as sad as todays music scene.

  • @ccfunk1, It's very sad. What I don't get is when people say they're a WAR fan, and they learn the truth on how the OG's have been and are still getting screwed over by Jerry Goldstein, but they still go see the WAR cover band anyway. Jerry Goldstein and his hired hands get all the WAR propers and royalties from misguided WAR fans, while the original artists are stiil here to perform THEIR WAR songs but without THEIR STOLEN WAR NAME. It's not right. Peace to you.

  • That Svengali, Jerry Goldstein, claims he owns the War band name, so, Lonnie Jordan, and the others, perform under the name, the Lowrider band. They hit #7 in Billboard, 2-10-73. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • from time to time the question for this band has been why? They are where they always wanted to be and this place is always and will be in our hearts. WE KNOW WHO THEY ARE!
