They are aluminum blocks. It weights roughly 50 pounds more than a KA24. That is a LIGHT motor. I don't know about Ford but I'm pretty sure the motors you named are iron block which weigh a lot more.
Yes a stock honda can take a v8. Like lt1 motors and the 302 found in an oldschool 5.0. You are blinded by tq. You can have a car with tq and long gears or a car with no tq high revs and short gears. And the combo works well. Look at f1 cars, bikes, and high end exotics. They don't make that much tq and have high rev limits with short gears.

The Honda should have won easily. It's a smaller, lighter car with approximately the same horsepower. It's in a completely different class of car. Subcompact vs compact. I'm glad the Cobalt kept up, because it really shouldn't have.

all in all i just traded in my 03 s2k for the 09 balt ss/tc and i can say its not even a comparison, they are to totally different cars, stock for stock they feel the same, an s2k does not respond well to upgrades unless you wanna dump 10 G's into the motor, the new cobalt tc does respond very well to upgrades and has room for groceries j/k j/k........ but they are both great cars. the s2k is awesome and really fun but no practical and the ss tc is.... i love them both

237 crank horsepower x .83 (17% drivetrain loss) = 196 whp
I'd say 205 is pretty close. Most s2k's i see dyno 190-205 whp tops.

quit mouthing the cobalt...chevy didn't just strap on a turbo just so it would be fast...well yea it did..but the thing is the cobalt is good in every area...now remember i said good not great...speed=good, handling=great,price=great,and above alll what chevy wanted to do was make a decently fast car with great gas mileage which is what they did....cobalt ss/tc=30 mpg highway!!!

The Honda should have won easily. It's a smaller, lighter car with approximately the same horsepower. It's in a completely different class of car. Subcompact vs compact. I'm glad the Cobalt kept up, because it really shouldn't have.

all in all i just traded in my 03 s2k for the 09 balt ss/tc and i can say its not even a comparison, they are to totally different cars, stock for stock they feel the same, an s2k does not respond well to upgrades unless you wanna dump 10 G's into the motor, the new cobalt tc does respond very well to upgrades and has room for groceries j/k j/k........ but they are both great cars. the s2k is awesome and really fun but no practical and the ss tc is.... i love them both

But lets just look at the good part... It should'nt be understimated. I heard a lot of stories about ecotec engine withstanding more whp than others say it can handle. Not surprising since it was mitsubishi's. And with the right setup and with the right mods, cobalt can also go side by side with evos.

ECOTECS are not made by the Japs. Not even close. It is a european/American Venture. Opel uses a lot of Ecotec engines and so does SAAB. The japs have nothing to do with it.

LOL sorry guys I got a used ap1 for 7.8k (86k mls), had a few grand on top and pieced together a turbo kit. LOL I had a standard street tune on 7.3lbs, I made 318rwhp and 216trq. and it looks way sick, handles amazing, and all for around 10k... IMO best bang for the buck!!!

Alright true story time...my friend and I raced his 2008 cobalt ss ( supercharged ) vs my 2001 S2000...from a dig ( and me spinning badly in first ) I beat him by a car length...( damn fwd have that stupid wheel hop or woulda be closer ) and from a roll just like in the vid my s2000 pulls slowly but surely and at I think 140??? slowbalts run into that speed limiter shit lol ( had my s2k at 153 already ) anyways the s2000 in this video clearly hits on the rev limiter towards the end like a noob

i dont really like hondas but the s2000 is pretty cool and im actually surprised the cobalt kept up you can clearly hear the winding of the supercharger not to mention when it was red lined it made that funky ass noise. plus the cobalt is no comparison to cars like the s2000 the rx8 or 350z
