I can see what "Call of Duty" as a franchise is doing. When you speak of Call of Duty either PS3, PC or Xbox. You think Call of Duty. They are thinking they are the main multiplayer game for the systems. I agree, Call of Duty in my opionion is the main multiplayer game or a second PS Home or whatever Xbox has. But the thing is, we pay for the game, the system, sound systems, internet, T.V., electricity, a house, DLC, and alot of other stuff needed or wanted to play with. We shouldnt pay 4 DLC.

Call of Duty 2 is the last real COD to me.COD series died after that. I don't mind if modern warfare fanboys wanna pay monthly fee to a lazy ass group who use same old engine to make shittier and shittier games.
I think that games like minecraft are going to going to do really well out of this, cos I can promise you that as a 15 year old kid, I'm not prepared to pay that amount for one game. Back in the old days of gaming most people didn't even know about online multiplay, there were concerns about publishers wanting to charge to pay online. Years later, along came consoles and with them their proprietary networks and extra content for a fee. Now that so many people accept that I guess its no surprise that we are seeing companies like Activision trying to take it further. The only way to stop these trends is to get a message across and not buy the game. Its that simple.

Heres the thing. Every other cod after mw3, will they be suported aswell? Or are they not going to make a new cod every year? To me id rather have mw3 be the only cod for atleast 2 years. And have them make it absolutley amazing and have soooo many challenges and mini games and perks and stuf.
I agree with a ton of these points. Why should i pay extra to have a game that works. I pay my 60 dollars for my game and my xbox subscription on top of that. Dedicated servers don't guarantee a no lag situation but its a hell of a lot better than the current black ops lag. We as gamers are not holding game companies responsible for their products and we have gotten so lenient that they are taking advantage of that and trying to charge us to fix their game that should work in the first place.

This sucks! man really. I am from India and it costs 3000 rupees to buy a cod game and we still dont have dedicated servers for our country and now the subscription charges for a mp. You I can 3 games from EA rather than one COD, they have to stop being so greedy. COD mp is not as good as battlefield series. If they do things like these I can't continue playing COD.
i've always played multiplayer FPSs, such as counter-strike, team fortress, natural-selection, battlefield, and COD. It will be a cold day in hell before I let some chump company charge me to play what I've been playing for free all these years. If they go through with this it will be the best thing that ever happened to EA.

@aakburns Having no prone in Bad Company is not comparable to charging people money to play the online portion of your game. And I doubt they would charge a subscription fee for MW3, it would greatly reduce the amount of people playing the game online. It would make more sense for Activision to charge people for certain aspects of online play, eg map packs, using the party system or higher priority match making/hosting.
I don't think that they should do that because people are already paying so much money for xbox live, call of duty map packs and games and now they want more money I don't think so. I love call of duty and all, it's a game I play everyday but if they do that I'm done playing COD. I may just go out and buy Battlefield 3 or something like that.

This is probably the worst idea I have heard of. I play xbox thats 50 dollars there then then 60 dollars for the game and then I have to pay whatever this subscription fee is. I think thats stupid and they would loose a lot of money that way as it is activision doesnt have a good enough server to make us pay a fee plus they are already paid by companys such as microsoft and sony. If they do this and it isnt cheap as hell then they just lost a customer.
I think they also need to think about who they're marketing towards. How many players are middle school age kids who's mom's are paying for the XBL and won't shell out twice, how many kids are in high school / college & are already struggling between insurance / cell phone bills / student loans. And again like I said just below, if it cost even 5 bucks a month, XBox players are doubling the monthly cost of their XBL subscription & after a year paying as much as they paid for the game originally.
I'd be willing to pay like 5 bucks a month tops. Cause think about it, that many people paying that much money.. granted they could lose a lot of customers but I'm sure they'd make up for it, easily. There aren't a lot of people out there who buy the game just for the campaign. But like I said, 5 bucks tops. I personally hated black ops multilayer. I was on line at gamestop like many other cod fans for the midnight release. I get home install the game start the multilayer and face insane lag. I was the only one that day to buy a pc copy of black ops at that game stop. Activision was experimenting with dedicated servers for the pc and it was an epic fail. I have the 360 and ps3 as well but I'll always be a pc gamer at heart specially for fps games. If activision wants to charge *flips bird*

Another Comment: I think we'll actually be seeing much more subscription-based online play with console and PC games. Because the online play of games has become such a huge part of gaming - more so than Single Player... (eg. Campaign in Homefront is just over 3 hours gameplay)
Because of this, the cost to the developer to provide servers, updates, patches, etc has exploded. What I would really like to see is a per-developer subscription fee (if it is necessary) instead of a per-game fee.
I'm curious to see how they actually would execute the Subscription. Do you think it would be a monthly fee like Blizzard Games, or would you expect something more along the lines of what EA is doing with the battlefield games, and what THQ has done with Homefront with the 'Battlecode' system.
For those of you who arent' familiar - if you buy the game new, you get a Battle-Code. This is tied to your console. If you don't have an unused code you have to pay a one-time $10.00 fee for the code.
Subscription fees are dumb regardless of the game genre. And online multiplayer is just the developers' way of maximizing game sales, while add as little content as possible. I hate it when gamers buy games and focus solely on the multiplayer. Companies respond to demand, and a subscription fee for multiplayer is clearly a response to demand. The 1st response to this demand was limiting solo game play in most FPS's (especially COD) to only a few hours. The second response is this shit.

Call of Duty multiplayer is no way near as diverse as wow. We play on the same maps over and over again, there is only so much they can patch, and after a couple of months of subscription, all hacks and patchs should be fixed. Can they justify the subscription after everything is fixed. Should they just charge for the reporting system and a couple of map packs? wow is everychanging with advanced customisation, huge exploration, a whole new world basically, people are happy to pay for that

If Activision were to turn CoD into a subscription service, they would say that the map packs were the same thing as, say, a WoW (World of Warcraft) expansion, and then charge for them. (Thing is, they're not - the WoW developers release a major patch that adds a bunch of new content every few months - much more than a map pack.) Unfortunately, they probably will make CoD subscription based anyway - they have a money grubbing CEO that only cares about the bottom line.

Now there may be an additional online subscription where customers cannot connect for the first time with no specific problem solving instructions from the manufacturer, where connection speeds drop and where hackers have free reign. Improve customer service - I should be able to email an Activision agent and not have to join a users forum

I already have to shell out 40$ a year for online which im fine with because of how amazing the online experience is. but to charge me a month to play a game is outrageous. Well, if I didn't have to pay for XBL, sure, I'd be fine with it, but I do, so no. To tell you the truth, gunns4hire is right about pretty much everything! How Treyarch is doing good by fixing things with Black Ops post release by letting the community say what needs to be fixed and that this may actually be an initial stage to the next phase in the COD franchise. I agree and disagree with the romours of the subscription of the next COD title.
I agree because it will mean that we will more than likely be getting better service and possibly discounts on or even free DLC. I disagree because of the simple fact that it may be too much for certain people to afford. I don't have a job because I'm partially disabled and the government only gives you so much money to cover expenses and other necessities.
I'm a huge fan of all of the COD titles, literally ALL of them! Regardless of what others may have to say about certain titles from the franchise, I seriously enjoyed every single COD title that came out! However, if they're going to implement a subscription fee just so you can play online, they better not make it too expensive because there are plenty of people out there that may not be able to afford it but are die-hard fans of COD.
There's also the fact that some people that may not be able to afford the fee aren't all kids that most people hate playing with because of how some of them complain or even "report" when they're killed by a lucky shot. There are people, like me, that may not be able to afford a subscription fee though I can guarantee you that I play purely because I love to play the game and I love to have fun!
I don't even think about hacking, cheating, boosting or even glitching because I play just to have fun. If you want to make a subscription fee then make the cost reasonable, allow subscribers to receive free DLC, fix the problems promptly and just make another seriously addictive game! Another thing, XBL is approximately $5/month (full year subscription) so if you have a subscription fee then don't make it outrageously high like $15/month.
Even though I play on PS3 I think the fee should be the same for both consoles considering the fact that not every game out there requires a subscription fee. Having said all that, keep in mind that even though jacking up the price for map packs didn't decrease the number of players that purchased them for MW1 and 2, we (the community) have had time to realize what has happened and we're not as impulsive as we once were.
We've realized what your game plan is and we respect it, but we're not going to be taken advantage of either. You're already making hundreds of millions of dollars from sales of the actual game and then on top of that you would be getting the subscription fee from us, so how about cutting your main reason for making games (the community) some slack...
My bad... I wrote a whole big thing on this and I wanted to put it in the easiest way of reading it so I'm going to post my whole thing again in a way so you guys can read it from top to bottom.
I agree because it will mean that we will more than likely be getting better service and possibly discounts on or even free DLC. I disagree because of the simple fact that it may be too much for certain people to afford. I don't have a job because I'm partially disabled and the government only gives you so much money to cover expenses and other necessities. I'm a huge fan of all of the COD titles, literally ALL of them!
To tell you the truth, gunns4hire is right about pretty much everything! How Treyarch is doing good by fixing things with Black Ops post release by letting the community say what needs to be fixed and that this may actually be an initial stage to the next phase in the COD franchise. I agree and disagree with the romours of the subscription of the next COD title.

I can see what "Call of Duty" as a franchise is doing. When you speak of Call of Duty either PS3, PC or Xbox. You think Call of Duty. They are thinking they are the main multiplayer game for the systems. I agree, Call of Duty in my opionion is the main multiplayer game or a second PS Home or whatever Xbox has. Back in the old days of gaming most people didn't even know about online multiplay, there were concerns about publishers wanting to charge to pay online. Years later, along came consoles and with them their proprietary networks and extra content for a fee. Now that so many people accept that I guess its no surprise that we are seeing companies like Activision trying to take it further. The only way to stop these trends is to get a message across and not buy the game. Its that simple.

I agree with a ton of these points. Why should i pay extra to have a game that works. I pay my 60 dollars for my game and my xbox subscription on top of that. Dedicated servers don't guarantee a no lag situation but its a hell of a lot better than the current black ops lag. We as gamers are not holding game companies responsible for their products and we have gotten so lenient that they are taking advantage of that and trying to charge us to fix their game that should work in the first place.

And I doubt they would charge a subscription fee for MW3, it would greatly reduce the amount of people playing the game online. It would make more sense for Activision to charge people for certain aspects of online play, eg map packs, using the party system or higher priority match making/hosting.

I think they also need to think about who they're marketing towards. How many players are middle school age kids who's mom's are paying for the XBL and won't shell out twice, how many kids are in high school / college & are already struggling between insurance / cell phone bills / student loans. And again like I said just below, if it cost even 5 bucks a month, XBox players are doubling the monthly cost of their XBL subscription & after a year paying as much as they paid for the game originally.

I personally hated black ops multilayer. I was on line at gamestop like many other cod fans for the midnight release. I get home install the game start the multilayer and face insane lag. I was the only one that day to buy a pc copy of black ops at that game stop. Activision was experimenting with dedicated servers for the pc and it was an epic fail. Another Comment: I think we'll actually be seeing much more subscription-based online play with console and PC games. Because the online play of games has become such a huge part of gaming - more so than Single Player... (eg. Campaign in Homefront is just over 3 hours gameplay)
Because of this, the cost to the developer to provide servers, updates, patches, etc has exploded. What I would really like to see is a per-developer subscription fee (if it is necessary) instead of a per-game fee.

Subscription fees are dumb regardless of the game genre. And online multiplayer is just the developers' way of maximizing game sales, while add as little content as possible. I hate it when gamers buy games and focus solely on the multiplayer. Companies respond to demand, and a subscription fee for multiplayer is clearly a response to demand. The 1st response to this demand was limiting solo game play in most FPS's (especially COD) to only a few hours. The second response is this shit.

Call of Duty multiplayer is no way near as diverse as wow. We play on the same maps over and over again, there is only so much they can patch, and after a couple of months of subscription, all hacks and patchs should be fixed. If Activision were to turn CoD into a subscription service, they would say that the map packs were the same thing as, say, a WoW (World of Warcraft) expansion, and then charge for them. (Thing is, they're not - the WoW developers release a major patch that adds a bunch of new content every few months - much more than a map pack.) Unfortunately, they probably will make CoD subscription based anyway - they have a money grubbing CEO that only cares about the bottom line.

So its fine if we pay $60 for a game and its full of glitches, but if we pay a subscription fee we shouldn't?
Games cost enough and I sure as hell pay enough for my pc. I think I'll stick stricly to battlefield games if they do this.

I would like to start by saying I Loved everything u said. your 100% right about everything. This is my opinion, i like the idea of the subscription. I'll actually pay whatever it is 10,15,even 30 a month because i love cod espacially mw. F*** every multiplayer game except cod. But your right i would love to get rid of all those stupid hackers right away. and get free maps. Alot of people might not like the idea. But I know MW3 will be worth it.

I would not pay a fee for call of duty because of glitches and hacks but I also wouldn't want to pay a fee because activision is too greedy. They're milking the call of duty franchise just like they did with the music genre. This company is not interested in the communities opinion. They just want money.

If they want the additional fee the better do a completely PERFECT game with suport and new weapons packs ,map packs ,misc packs(like camos and challenges and game modes) but ... ALL FOR FREE RIGHT?

This is an out rage to all gamers because we already pay 60 bucks for the game then another 30 + on the map packs which is a lot of money for the millions of gamers that buy the game and map packs. And then there is microsoft making deals to get the map packs sooner and it is not worth my money to pay $150 just to play a game on my xbox 360, and next year they will probably charge $20 a map pack and they can't even come up with a campagin better than cod 4, and they already mad quick scopers mad

Many wii users couldnt connect to a server. nintendo & call of duty advised 'forwarding ports' on the router- & didnt give instructions on how to do this. Now there may be an additional online subscription where customers cannot connect for the first time with no specific problem solving instructions from the manufacturer, where connection speeds drop and where hackers have free reign. Improve customer service - I should be able to email an Activision agent and not have to join a users forum

i personally think that this is crap. I already have to shell out 40$ a year for online which im fine with because of how amazing the online experience is. but to charge me a month to play a game is outrageous. Not only are game prices going up frm what use to be like 30$ to like 60 and 70$ now, now i will have to play 10 dollars a month just to play multiplayer online??? thts BS, i have a bad feeling that the COD gamers in the world will be cut in half if this goes to affect.

Well, if I didn't have to pay for XBL, sure, I'd be fine with it, but I do, so no. I mean, even if we get all this great service about banning hackers and patching glitches fast, if I have to pay both XBL and Multiplayer Fee on a regular basis (monthly, annual, whatever) I'd much rather have the same hacked-like-hell CoD we all know and love. I mean, the CoD we have going right now is fine, I'd be happy if they just keep on with the new CoD every year thing, making each one better than the last.

This is extremely dumb. We're already paying for XBL/PSN, about...$60 a month? $60 for the game, and since I doubt they will give 'free' DLC, at least $30 for those. $150 for one game? That's bull. I love the series, but if we're seriously gonne have to pay for multiplayer, I'm out.

I'm telling you the best thing you can do if they start charging is start playing Counter Strike... It is REALLY balanced, you got dedicated servers and stuff..

To tell you the truth, gunns4hire is right about pretty much everything! How Treyarch is doing good by fixing things with Black Ops post release by letting the community say what needs to be fixed and that this may actually be an initial stage to the next phase in the COD franchise. I agree and disagree with the romours of the subscription of the next COD title.

I disagree because of the simple fact that it may be too much for certain people to afford. I don't have a job because I'm partially disabled and the government only gives you so much money to cover expenses and other necessities.

I'm a huge fan of all of the COD titles, literally ALL of them! Regardless of what others may have to say about certain titles from the franchise, I seriously enjoyed every single COD title that came out! However, if they're going to implement a subscription fee just so you can play online, they better not make it too expensive because there are plenty of people out there that may not be able to afford it but are die-hard fans of COD.

There's also the fact that some people that may not be able to afford the fee aren't all kids that most people hate playing with because of how some of them complain or even "report" when they're killed by a lucky shot. There are people, like me, that may not be able to afford a subscription fee though I can guarantee you that I play purely because I love to play the game and I love to have fun!

I don't even think about hacking, cheating, boosting or even glitching because I play just to have fun. If you want to make a subscription fee then make the cost reasonable, allow subscribers to receive free DLC, fix the problems promptly and just make another seriously addictive game! Another thing, XBL is approximately $5/month (full year subscription) so if you have a subscription fee then don't make it outrageously high like $15/month.

Even though I play on PS3 I think the fee should be the same for both consoles considering the fact that not every game out there requires a subscription fee. Having said all that, keep in mind that even though jacking up the price for map packs didn't decrease the number of players that purchased them for MW1 and 2, we (the community) have had time to realize what has happened and we're not as impulsive as we once were.

If activision charges anything, i won't even buy the next game. U all must remember that we are ( as a community) much stronger than activision. We don't have to pay monthly charges.
