Great old memory lane presentation. It's both fun and sad. It's fun to watch and remember how America once was. It's sad to know this will never be again.
@MichiganTreasure 0-60 in 22 seconds, tube type, bias tires the wore out in 6,000 miles, frequent flat tires or blow outs, tune-ups every 5,000 miles, poor handling, brakes even worse, no air conditioning, no power windows, no power door locks, even the heater was optional, a car that was pretty well shot or worn out by 70,000 miles. I could go on, but why bother. Good for nostalgia, but give me a modern car for my daily ride any time.
Why don't they make a commercial like this anymore...show off the car and let people think how great it would be to have one in your garage. We heard enough about economy and airbags over the last 20 years...let's just enjoy the cars again for what they are.
That song was great. Why can't Chevy use that song again to push their new stuff? (See the USA in your Chevrolet...now with better fuel efficency!) - or something.
@FURY1958 My parents had one of those cars when I was a kid. We were at a hamburger stand where me and my brother waited in the car for our mother to come out when a lady bumped us in the backend. It scared me and I cried but my older brother laughed.
@FURY1958 oh totally.....if chevrolet ever re-issued this car they would pay off all their debt in no time. I have wondered for many years why the big American car companies don't re-issue some of their classic designs.....49 ford, 58 Ford, 55 Chev etc
@MitchGambino - Dinah (and everyone else who did TV spots) did these LIVE, long before there was video tape. All the networks had live commercials, often done by a show's host (Johnny Carson, all of them). I grew up in cars like this - super fabulous - and taught myself to drive on a '56 Chevy station wagon.
Every decade dates inself....eventually. As the population becomes more sophisticated, selling becomes more difficult...for the obvious reasons.

Where would they play a 12 minute commercial? Before movies in the theater?

Sure takes my breath away. Thanks for making these old spots available. Makes me wonder if today's car ads will look as silly as these some day.

This car did 0-60 with PowerGlide in about 22 seconds.

@itsmegp46 i bet its an inline 6 they're testing
coolgames14 2 months ago
@coolgames14 It has to be their old inline 6. The Belair did not come with a V-8 until the 1955 model year. Happy Motoring!

Dinah Shore, Pat Boone, Bonanza and Bewitched. Too bad Chevy can't sponsor entire TV shows like they used to.

So like, they showed this on TV?
