  • I didn't discover this song until a day or so ago and I've already bugged all my friends with it. It's also excellent to hear another offering to the mellow punk cover stable - so much more refreshing than the endless drone of 'amusing' punk covers of old ballads.

Oh yeah, Crass rock as well.

  • I think upsetting the preconceived expectations and status quo for "punks" is probably the most inherently "punk" thing one can do. Kudos to Jeffrey Lewis!

  • CRASS!

  • If you hate this then I don't think you understand what Crass really stands for.

  • Would sing along but I got this damn lump in my throat. Great song when I was 15 in 1993, and great cover today. Thanks jeff.

  • Could i just point out that when i was first getting in to crass i had to listen with a booklet of lyrics to understand alot of it. I think the way this guy presents crass's lyrics is fantastic. Crass always had fantastic lyrics and could it possibly be that they are more powerful when presented in this way?

  • dont ya just love people who totally miss the point of what crass and freedom is about?

love the style of music/ hate the style of music -it really doesnt matter. if people get the message in a more accessible way that is surely a good thing yeah?

dont be confined by your bigotry and prejudices -there's enough rules and regulations enforced by "the system" without unthinking "anarchists" doing precisely the thing they rail against.

    wake up. open your eyes.

  • I love how he covers crass in a really beautiful way...

Like hardcore punk to hippie folk.

    It's pretty awesome.

  • @neobird13 slap acoustic music on anything and it sounds "beautiful" that's not what crass is meant to be.

  • @radicalaceshasbrin Yeah, maybe, but it's all how you see it. To me it's just a different perspective. Just because something is a little more upbeat than the original doesn't mean it got the meaning wrong. Mind you this is coming from someone who used to listen to crass way before I ever heard of jeffery lewis...

  • On the "This is ripping off Crass" Case, I've never heard of Crass, but now, I'm prolly going to go listen to some of their songs, because of this. So really it's just another way to spread their music.

  • great cover

  • love this song, remembers when i used to sing with my dad, now infortunately he is gone, good old times!

  • @diotima12 Then why watch this video? -.-

    ~RSMD~

  • Totally Saleable, to the misinformed masses.

    Even idiots can learn?!?

  • Amazing cover of an amazing song. Totally different mood but just as valid. I actually prefer this version. Crass is dope though.

  • Is it supposed to be happy? Is that supposed to be irony? I envision someone who can't grow chest hair hanging out in his loft thinking, "no one wants to listen to my bland ideas. But I'm going to keep my chin up. And smile. I don't care what anyone thinks. I'm an individual. So, darn them. Darn them all."

  • End Result, I think you are, Stop making abortions of Crass stuff.

  • "I am the leper nobody wants to touch.......... much." This line is meant to be funny, but not very funny when he says it. =(

  • The style of this video is incredible. It matches the song perfectly.

  • this version is better than crass, the style of singing in this song allows us to understan the importance and signifigance of the lyrics

  • Alot of crass fans would hate us for saying this, but I strongly agree with you. In all respect to crass for writing the original songs and some excellent lyrics, I can sit down and listen to Jeffrey Lewis' covers far easier.

  • if u bought the album and saw his story/opinion of crass you might understand better. subjectivity

  • I love this its awesome :D

  • Crass themselves gave him the rights.

  • had they known he was going to do an obama endorsement maybe they wouldnt have given them to him...?

  • you could be right, but the only way to know is to ask them. However they probably don't care that much because their songs which were once known only to hardcore punks and those familiar with the scene are now being shared with an entirely new audience. The message hasn't really been changed, i don't see any Obama-loving in this cover.

  • fair enough...

    all i'm saying...

is its like remaking Texas chainsaw massacre

its just not as effective...a knock off will never shine like an original...that's all...that's why i am mad...this generation of media is nothing but regurgitated/ remade/remixed/sampled versions of creativity? no courage...no guts no glory...doesnt apply anymore...

  • Hmm, I understand your opinion of remakes, but to be fair it should be known that this is in no way "sell out crap" Jeffrey Lewis is completely independant, and is always pushing a DIY punk ethic. Check out Jeffrey Lewis's song "complete history of punk rock"

  • @mebbmebbmibbmibb just letting you know, this is more effective than the original version to me... different strokes for different folks :)
