  • Smoke on the water is now by Black Sabbath

  • Last one sounds a lot like the intro in The Apostle in Triumph on Orchid.

Depends how much it's modified though as it clearly isn't the exact same riff. interestingly enough the stuff after the intro has the same kind of vibe that riff from To live is to die has.

  • Which is the one at 1:10?

  • @xxertad Metallica's "To Live Is To Die"

  • @mick17 Thanks I remembered now

  • smoke on the water was composed by Deep purple...oracle my ass!

  • @MrCainetrist Man, it was a joke.

  • @MrCainetrist

    heard of sarcasm? :D

  • @ChaplainDMK doesn't matter now:)) we have the top comments

  • @MrCainetrist i think it was a joke....

  • @SoAndChobe you don't say...

  • smoke of the water by Black Sabbath....awesome!

  • PERTH?!

    PEERTTH!!!?! I MISSED THIS

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKK!!!

    Ugh my life is over.

  • @Moufisto this is from 2006 bro

  • @XMcEvilson Even worse. I missed this.. 5 years.. ago.. ;_; fuck me

  • Comeon guys whats the 5th riff?. Its epic and i want to hear it properly.

  • @mustaffa16 Welcome to the Jungle - Guns N' Roses. He's a liar if he tells you otherwise.

  • @CrackeTheSkull Where exactly does this tune come in that song?

  • @mustaffa16 You mean the riff at 2:46 right? I can't count. That's the intro to the song.

The one he played before that is Knocking at Your Back Door by Deep Purple.

  • @CrackeTheSkull Yeah the badass at 2:48. I still don't know which song its from.

  • @CrackeTheSkull actually he says he wrote it. Ok fine but what song did he played next, in which he says he played the modified version of this?

  • @mustaffa16 It sounds a little bit like the beginning of the outro to Deliverance, but I'm not sure if that's it. It could also be Harlequin Forest, or something off of Orchid.

There's also a good chance that he was just kidding around and it is actually Guns N' Roses. He didn't play very much of it though so it's hard to tell...

  • @CrackeTheSkull Only if some die hard Opeth fan come and reply!

No man it cant be from Orchid. I recently heard it all. Deliverance outro is like maybe 1% alike.

  • @mustaffa16 Yeah, I don't know man. I'm out of legitimate guesses. Maybe it'll come to me when I go through their discography again (which I end up doing once every month it seems like.) I'll let you know.

By the way, you might like my "Top 10 Mike Akerfeldt Screaming Passages" video that's on my channel if you're a big fan of Opeth.

  • What song did they play next?

  • @KinkyOnkel32 I'm guessing it's Deliverance

  • To live is to Die... you have good taste Mikael!

  • COOL!!!! smoke on the water by black sabbath!

  • @MrBumblebore it's by Deep Purple.

  • @hexxxen i think hes joking

  • @Dudeatrix k.

  • I knew "To Live is to Die" :P Can't he elaborate on why Opeth "wouldn't be around"? Was that the first clean riff he learned?

  • @SwedishBerzerker this is just a guess, but im going to say that was one of the earliest examples (at least that i can think of) of a solid mix of slow, more jazzlike playing and heavy riffs- like opeth would later become famous for. again, just a guess

  • @Bman1393 I wouldn't consider it very jazz-like, I'm not a jazz enthusiast but I've heard a bunch. And Metallica incorporated these kinds of clean/dist progressions on earlier albums too, like the intro to "Fight Fire With Fire" or "Orion" I think. It's got to be something more personal to Åkerfeldt.

  • what was the next song???

  • Did he say smoke on the water by black sabbath??????? Deep Purple might have an issue with that

  • But...you're wrong...it's not FUCKING Guns and Roses. XD

  • To live is to Die!

  • Why did he say 'smoke on the water by Black Sabbath' when it's by deep purple? or was he being sarcastic? I can't image he would get it wrong...

  • @Nvelopmusic Thanks for the input mate! I really appreciate it!... Now that's sarcasm.

  • @wilsonwarrior I saw him making that joke before;) so sarcastic it is :P

  • 0:47 FAIL

  • Filmed with a fucking fork....

  • a fucking oracle?^^ anyone seen the quiz between him and that procupine tree guy? im just sayin :D

  • @MainstreamKills What quiz are you talking about and where can I see it?

  • i got instant goose bumps when they played to live is to die...

  • @lorand133

Same dude. When I first heard that song it kind of changed me forever, and to hear Opeth, one of my favorite bands of all time play it. That was just amazing.

  • I'm a fuckin' oracle.

  • I wish i could like this more than once

  • Without Metallica there would be no thrash metal :O However... Without the big-band, there would be nothing, so thank you big-bang :D

  • The last one is Welcome to the jungle by Guns N' Roses.

  • did Michael J Fox record this?

  • @jazar hahahaha

  • @jazar Bwhahahahahahahahaha!!!!

  • @martyr13666999 Yeah. The last riff here is the first riff in Deliverance. It's not in the album, but they play it live in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=gHyLcqrBdA8 at 1:43.

  • to live and to die gave me fucking chills

    i love that fucking song

  • i bet the next song was Deliverance

  • Oh he blew me away with To Live is to Die. Wait... what song did they play next?!

  • @EnragedSephiroth It's "Knocking at your Backdoor"

  • @jKazej Thanks. :)

  • @ExaggeratedDread thanks so much men :P

  • I always wondered how much Metallica had influenced Opeth, but when Mikael says "If it wasnt for that lick, Opeth would not be around" after playing To Live is To Die, I definitely see the connection between the two bands, especially on songs like The Night and the Silent Water and many more.

  • Is that a Celic Frost t shirt?

  • @postigaceltic yes it is i have that same shirt

  • hahahahahaha

"that was not... fucking Guns 'N Roses"

  • I wanna hear him play dont fear the reaper!!

  • It would be really cool to hear those songs performed by Opeth.

  • the one filming has Parkinsons...

  • Mikael Akerfeld: 'TROLOLOLOLOLOL'

  • @alienhell663 lmao

  • I felt so good when I heard him say "Opeth wouldn't be around if it wasn't for To Live is to Die" because the same is true for me. I mean I probably wouldn't appreciate Opeth as much as I do now if I had never heard that song to begin with.

  • Metal Quiz! My favourite kind!

  • Lol he was obviously joking about smoke on the water, Mikael is a huge Deep Purple fan

  • what was the third music that mikael played???

  • @jpfmsantoz

"To Live Is To Dy" by "Metallica" from the album "...And Justice For All". Hope that I'm not the 10th one who answers you ;-)

  • To the people who though Mikael was actually serious when he said Black Sabbath wrote Smoke on the Water:

    Die.

  • omg...when he started to play "To Live Is To Die", i almost cried. the most beutiful song ive ever heard

  • @thejormungand Agreed. Freakin' amazing.

  • what song did they play next

  • the shakiness actually makes it look trippy

P.S - OPETH IS THE SHIT

  • Lol did he say smoke on the water by black sabbath

  • Yeah yeah, he did, he did. You know we went over all of this years ago in here when people commented like "LOL HE SAID BLACK SABBATH WHAT A IDIOT! etc. He said it to joke around because everyone knows it's one of the most recognizeable songs ever, and everyone knows it's by Deep Purple.

  • I know he said it as a joke ;P I thought it was funny. And I was not around on youtube years ago so :/

  • @MALSIV Alright dude :), but in youtube it's really hard to see sometimes whether people are serious or not, you wouldn't believe the amount of retards there are in the internet.

  • @Deathshuck Haha I believe you :)

  • @MALSIV I think so :)

  • oh and wats the song he plays at the last?

  • wats the song at 1.43 pls... thank u..

  • @coldfussdog

Knoking at your back door (deep purple, 1984)

  • avisenle a mikael q smoke on the water es d deep purple no d black sabbath como dijo

  • claro pero era una broma....

  • @rapcoremanx y acaso no crees que fue una broma? -_____-

  • It's not 'Welcome to the jungle', it's the beginning of 'De-li-ve-ran-ce'.

  • what's the song played at 1:12?

  • to live is to die by metallica.

  • @SpongeInPyjama It´s "To live is to die" by metallica. at the "...and justice for all"-record....just listen to mikael, dude!

this song is dedicated to cliff burton, who died, I think, the year bevor?!

  • To live is to die - Metallica - The Biggest Metal Band Of All Times.

  • whats the song at 2:00 ?

  • knocking at your backdoor by deep purple.

  • Comment removed

  • anyone know what song they played after he played guns n roses

  • probably Demon of the Fall. It's their go-to encore song, haha.

  • @seanshred666 should be deliverance concerning the last riff...

  • Comment removed

  • That was not by Guns N' Roses, I wrote that riff in 1984!

  • @LeetGuitar

    He was just joking.

  • DEEP PURPLE DID YOU NOOB

  • @Zuberzuber

    Not according to Opeth's singer

  • he was joking..

  • So what song did they play next???

  • Deliverance

  • but, youre wrong.. that was not fucking guns n roses

LOL... i actually cant think what song they played after that.. anyone know?

  • deliverance maybe?

  • It's Deliverance, when i saw them last time he said:

"Time for nice ballad that i wrote for my mother"

  • deep purple?

  • HE is funny as hell

  • Whats the third riff?

  • Metallica - to live is to die

  • Sounded awefuly similar to the Unforgiven.

  • LOL, Fucking sarcasm for the win

  • Wow, im a HUGE opeth fan and have been a HUGE metallica fan since the day i was born (parents are also fans) and fell in love with that clean guitar part of To Live is to Die so many years back... it means SOOOOOOO MUCH to me to hear that Mikael also appreciates it like i do... just wow.

  • Agree, that's the exact I had. Metallica and Opeth are my favourite bands.

That clean guitar parts has so much emotion...

  • i agree, both are my fav bands!!

  • @kitthehacker

Now you're discrediting Mikael and Opeth as well.

Really, if you think Metallica has no emotion and that they are crap, I suggest that you clean your ears, or pay attention when you are listening to their songs, instead of just thinking they are overrated and not actually listening to the music.

  • @kitthehacker

"put no emotion into it" is subjective so stop repeating that one... It's not going to make you one bit more convincing.

Actually Metallica is one of the better composers in metal, and their guitarist DOES use scales, I am really beginning to doubt your knowledge about music, and guitar playing as well.

Just because you don't recognize the scales (which means you're not familiar enough with them) and compositions does not mean they are not there.

    Stop being an idiot.

  • Please, don't insult my knowledge of music. I have been playing multiple instruments and learning theory since the age of 2 and I am actually a recognised composer within my community. Back to the arguement, we both have valid points and in the end it's a matter of taste, I was being an idiot starting it up so let's leave it at that. I can be a bit too opinionated at times.

  • @kitthehacker

Well Metallica is a recognised composer within the 'metal community', at least a lot of critics credit them much for it (and for their music in general), and that's for a reason.

And if you know that much about music theory, why don't you recognize the scales used? Me and other people do.

I don't get the "Metallica is overrated, I'm cool" trend anyway.

  • I recognise the scales. I just think that they are used badly within the context of the songs.

  • @kitthehacker Im sure you learned tons of music theory at the age of 2, rofl.

  • come on... I'm not a fan of metallica myself, but Kirk Hammet a bad guitarist??

He studied with SATRIANI.. there's no way a bad guitarist can handle Satriani as a teacher.

HE DOES use scales. (trust me, and I only like 10 songs from Metallica, maybe even less)

  • i agree with you mate

  • "very good... smoke on the water.... by black sabbath" xD

  • @jedivolt hahahahahahhahaha

  • mikael is the fuckin man!!

  • smoke on water.. SHAME on u !

  • duh, that is what you call sarcasm

  • One of the greatest bands ever covering some of the greatest songs ever written by some of the other greatest bands ever. This might just be the greatest video ever.

  • LOL..."No, it's not fucking Guns n Roses..."

  • guns and roses sucks ass anyways

  • I LOVE YOU OPETH!!!
