  • Johnny, ive watched your videos many times (:

and was just wondering, how long are you playing drums, cause im playing atm and dont know how good im getting, i wanted to ask, if i keep practising will i get good? :S

  • well the only way i know how he mounted his splash on his hi hat stand was he took a second hi hat top conector that screws on the rod and puts one on the splash. thats how iv done it lol

  • wow you make it look so effortless, nice sounding kit too!!!

  • love your set's sound!

    and awesome drumming ;)

  • dude you are godlike, and by the way how did you put a splash in the hi hat stand?

  • cheers :)

the splash was mounted on top of the hi hat rod using a 2nd clutch upside down. i didn't want to spend anything on a stand when i only paid $8 for the splash on eBay :)

  • this is soooo insane, some Bonham fills there too!

  • No actually your wrong nice try

  • hey man, this is a fantastic drum solo.. how long have you been playing for?

  • umm, 2 years ago when i recorded this i'd been playing for about 18 years.

  • 1:13 ! You're fills are perfect man !!

  • wow man nice i bet your a midnight jazz club player!

  • the durability of your foot is godlike

  • yeah it is! he is amazing.

he is a drum teacher i think. :)

  • Nice video

  • wow ur good!

  • how many kits do you own/have access to?

  • 3 full kits. but i think i might sell this one.

  • I honestly don't like the snare too much.

  • i love the way your toms are tuned i could never get mine to sound that good ,i used to use a GHOST bass petal that worked very well ,i believe phil collins uses the GHOST also a medium thin 16 inch zildian crash cymbal would do the trick

  • Every groove is the same man

  • OP must play quads..

  • what's the technique behind the bass? my ancle just fuckin aches after about 2 minutes.

Any help boys and girls?? please. :)

  • I'd say your problem is that you have little girly ankles.

I play 2-4 times faster than this constantly for one or more hours at a time and I feel fine. I actually get better the longer I play and "loosen up".

So I'd say quit whining about your sensitive ankles and just play. And if developing your muscles a little doesn't work maybe you have a promising future with the flute.

  • jsut keep going, when it hurts, keep pushing, and eventually you'l build up strength.

try not hitting it so hard.

and if you cant hear it over the other drums, then play the other drums quieter.

  • Thankyou.

  • take some ibuprofen before you start playing. i have pretty bad knees from running cross country and they start getting pretty bad after about 45 minutes of playing so ibuprofen works pretty well.

  • instead of pushing with your ankles, push with your calf and thighs.

  • Thanks. I've been practicing all week (hard), think it's starting to pay off a little. I've been using the calf and it's much better, just gotta get some rythm in it now. :)

  • cardio, running and do stairs. thats what my old teacher used to tell me ;]

  • which side of ur ankle hurts?

  • It's the outside, and the top of my foot mainly, although it has been improving. It still gets tired pretty quick though. :)

  • 2:20 sounded nice

  • very nice!

how come the snare sound went odd, somewhere after 3:28 though?

  • He turned the snare off, hence the change of sound. =)

  • Nice!

  • good good good !

  • nice, like it

  • ud be anwsome jazz drummer and rock

  • i like the 12/8 at the beginning and the tom groove at 2:55ish.

  • He is good but I noticed his right hand is not over the stick so he is hitting the cymbal from the side and not from the front of the grip. I did the same thing for a long time. My teacher was always calling me down on it. Can't get as much speed with the right hand that way. I play with traditional grip.

  • It's sort of known as french grip, depending on how you look at it. Carter Beauford from Dave Matthews uses the same grip.

  • I didn't know Elvis Costello was a drummer.

  • 2.48

  • 2:30

  • damn man it isn´t complicated but it grooves

  • 2:40

  • this is gret keep it up! :)

  • what skins are they? they sound great. btw this vid has convinced me to get moongel :)

  • remo pinstripes...

  • thanks i think ill get some of those aswell

  • smooth and cool. Thanks for sharing dude !

  • Of course 5 stars! ... Take care men! And Keep Drumming! hehe

  • Killer feel! 5 stars!

  • this might sound odd, but nice shoes man

  • how much was ur kit ??????? plezzzzzzzzzzz reply

  • Needs to learn how to hold a drumstick.

  • There is no way to hold a drum stick, there is no certain way to play drums. Its however your comfortable, and apparently he does know how because that sounded pretty decent to me.

  • Its really funny how much you don't know.

  • You can't mention one good reason for Johnny to change his grip.

  • Yeah.

To not look like a retard.

That's a pretty damn good reason for me.

  • He's not a model, he's a drummer.

Grow up, upload your own videos and try again, because you fail.

  • Yeah.

    Okay.

What exactly do I fail at?

  • That wasn't a good reason. You could tell a great artist that they're holding the brush wrong and you'd be laughed at.

  • can you believe it?

his beef - with JXL's fuckin grip, for christ's sake!

grip is personal, and any drummer knows that. any good one, anyways. i saw richard ploog's grip in some videos (drummer in the church in the 80s) and i was puzzled by his grip... sort of traditional but striking like matched (you'll see it in some of their earlier vids on YouTube). tried it myself but it wasn't for me... but it worked for ploog. like JXL's for him.

    v11drummer needs some lessons...

  • Exactly. The result - sound - is all that matters. Every drummer produces it the way they feel most comfortable with.

  • Ai oho, sähän oot Suomesta.

  • no, täällä asun mutta olen kotoisin britanniasta...:)

  • Aijaa, ok. :)

  • you're joking, right?

he's using a very good matched grip, and the sticks stay in his hands, which is the place they're supposed to be. they move about freely enough for him to play with a very fluid style. and there's enough texture in his playing to suggest he has very good control over the sticks.

methinks he's learned very well how to hold a bloody drumstick, and it's maybe you who needs to do some learning.

  • The way he plays,

When he goes into that halftime part his hand goes, like, upsidedown or someshit,

    Its bad,

  • what?

that's your bloody beef with him? jesus bollocks! i've seen worse than that from supposedly really good ones!

    get a fucking grip, please!

  • Butt the fuck out.

Hey pussy, I'm not saying he sucks, I'm saying his grip sucks.

I'm not saying i'm better than him or any of that shit.

    Butt out asshole/

  • go fuck yourself, dipshit...

his grip is personal to him. it works for him.

that's okay by just about any fucking drummer on this planet. okay?

you're the one that butted in about his fucking grip. why don't YOU butt the fuck out?

i'm surprised you know anything about drumming to be honest.

  • okay.

  • uh oh youtube fight hiss hiss scratch scratch

  • grow up or piss off!

  • bloody hell sorry ol chap ill just go back to my tea and crumpets mate

    That was pretty sick...

  • dude youre are awsome than travis barker

  • well... alot of drummers are in my opinion

  • I like the groove

  • really nice, like ur style good playin!!

  • how did u get the splash on the hi hat cymbal?

  • the rod for the hi-hat stand. mount it on the top of that

  • Nice.

  • it's in your blood man!

  • Have you ever tried moving one of those low toms to the other side of your hihat? I played like that for a while and it really opened up a lot of options that were not there with left handed rudiments and grabbing tricky e's and a's on the toms is a lot easier as well.

  • nice little twirl into match grip

you get that shit from jojo because does something just like that, nice grooves by the way

  • Dude..what kinda heads are those?

  • Exellent !! Defo favorited !1 U rock dude ! \m/

  • astronomicat, its called turning the snare off, thats what the drop clutch is for on the side of the snare.

  • good work... first i was a bit shocked of the heard but unseen second crash ^^

  • you are very very good, man. Inspiration for me. Thank you

  • damn! awesome :]

  • He's Good! :)

  • how do you hit the snare without activating the snares?

  • There should be a little switch at the side, just flick it down the way and the snares drop.

  • love the ride man, wat kind is it?

  • nice snare rolls bro

  • nice work! sounds really groovy.. what are the tom dimensions? 10,12,14,16?
