This is amazing. it's such a pity they had to alter the look of the historic hotel completely. They could surely have modernized without removing the historic soul of the place?

Here, here! Seems they can't leave good enough alone these days ): I see beautiful places on the outside and then....you go inside and all the originality is lost. Sad I guess some of it can't be helped.

Aww, I can't believe they got rid of that look! Reading the description has shocked me, I can't believe the dance floor was ripped out, all those amazing dances and parties with all kinds of weird and wonderful people who stepped on them, vanished forever in a sea of lost memories!

As sad as it perhaps is that this particular interior is to get a "new look", this is perhaps the first time in recent history that "new look" has meant anything besides modernist defacement. It sounds as if the Savoy will be done in Edwardian Revival with a '30s twist. Not nearly as bad as it could be.

Always wanted to see for real the bandstand.The hotel looks grand from the river front,but from the street level (the strand)it is slightly set back in a narrower recess,making it unclear where the entrance is.First hotel in the world to have running hot water in each room and first to have electric light in each room.Caroll Gibbons lived in the hotel for all the 30s and 40s
