This is a great piece of music and superb musicianship particularly from Pete Haycock. I love his playing, his warm, rich tone and also the interplay between Pete and Livingstone Brown;a brilliant performance!
I love playing bass along with this. It was a challenge because I play by ear, but it was a fun process and I never get tired of playing it some 16 years later. Now, to find a band to perform it with. LOL
Let's get Pete inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, people!
There's a new online iPetition that's just been created, so please add your signature to the petition -- it only takes a few seconds, and this guy is so deserving of that recognition. Thanks!
Truly scary how easy he makes that look. Stellar musicianship all around. I remember having this on cassette way back in the day. What I wouldn't give to have it on CD. Too bad finding any of the No Speak label is nigh impossible. Rock on Pete!
This is an excellent example of jazz-rock guitar playing. I am so impressed by Peter Haycock's guitar tone! It is so rich and full yet it cuts through very well. You can't say that on a lot of semi hollow guitars. I remember having a cassette of Night Of The Guitar 20 years back, I can't find it anymore. I hope this is reissued. Fat chance but....who knows?
@bpabustan Peter's playing through a Left Hand Amp which was made in Warrington. I've got the other one. Left Hand were sort of Warrington's answer to Mesa Boogie. I believe Peter's guitar had Schaller Golden 50 pickups in it. Nothing flash like Dimarzios or Duncans.
Livingstone Browne on bass and Clive Mayuyu on drums (here with Haycock) played on 1994 Robin Trower´'s album 20th Century Blues (excellent blues-rock album)
I supported these in my old band "The business" around 1986,they were gr8,and really friendly guys, chatting with us backstage !!!,hope peter comes to southend again !!
Pete Haycock is an absolutely stellar guitarist, and he makes playing this complex piece look effortless -- awesome! "Doctor" Livingston Brown on the bass is also incredible... This clip may be 20 years old, but Pete's still bringin' it -- better than ever -- and the new Pete Haycock's True Blues LIVE CD is a must-have if you love great guitar. You've gotta check it out.
OH MAN!! Thanks for posting this.. What a wonderful video! You are right Pelicam1. Pete is as good as he was back then as he is today, if not better!!!
This is a great clip from the "Night of the Guitars" tour of 1989. Pete Haycock, former lead guitarist with the Climax Blues Band, performs this tune, featuring bassist Livingston Brown (thus the song's name) from Pete's "Guitar and Son" album. Pete Haycock went on to a successful career composing and performing on several movie soundtracks as well. He has recently returned to the stage with his new band, PETE HAYCOCK'S TRUE BLUES and his new LIVE CD is great! Check out the RMI Sound website

From "Night of the Guitar", 1988...
Pete's often been overlooked when mentioning great guitarists, and his work with Climax Blues Band as well as his own solo work is outstanding...
Speaking of outstanding, how about Livingstone Brown on bass and Clive Mayuyu on drums ?
