  • knives was so much better!

  • I wish they had chose a cooler looking scott and make him a manslut lke in the comic xD

  • Edgar wright is one of the coolest and one of my favorite directors

  • Ugh, someone really needs to upload the alternate ending agian...its no where on the internet anymore :P

  • I had no idea this film had been a financial failure. And people actually think it sucks? Wow. This is a film that anyone between the ages of 12 and 30 should instantly love, no doubt about it - anyone who's ever been into video games, comics, or general internet / coolguy youth culture should be able to appreciate this film immensely. Fuck, even my 50+ year old parents loved it, and they're anything but down with vidya games, comics and other such awesomeness. Consider me shocked.

  • Scott ends up with Knives in the alternate ending. Personally I wanted that to be the aired ending, Knives or Kim.

  • It's actually kind of funny when you really get down to it. A lot of the problem in translation from comic to movie, I think, was because they went for a different ending.

Think about it, if Scott was going to end up with Knives, of course they'd make Ramona less likeable, of course she'd have a largely emotionless, bitchy performance, because we weren't supposed to feel for her, we were supposed to like Knives better. They just couldn't reshoot in time after the original ending didn't work

  • @Generation941 I know. Maybe Cera turned them off. Ironically, this was one of his better performances

  • I read the alternate ending which was original ending. Pretty much he stuck with knives. I liked the ending we have now though.

  • How did people not like this movie. It was amazing!I watched 7 times the day i first saw it!

  • This reminds me of the gideon/ramona battle scene when she's in the chair next to him! ;)

  • I love the movie but I didn't like the alternete ending. It makes you say: why did he bother fighting if he don't win what he was fighting for. Except if ending up with knives does compensate as for "what he was looking for".

  • Although not a comic book reader I am a film fanatic. I am also over 30 so this crap about age is irrelevant. As soon as I heard the game sounds, I was transported back to my school days, of playing arcade games after school. Timing is the key with putting a film out, especially in the US. I for one enjoyed this more than the Expendables. I like originality in films and this is the ultimate for me. Maybe one day it will get its true recognition. Two words 'Shawshank Redemption'

  • Is it weird to say I'm in love with Mary Elizabeth Winstead's eyes?

  • I loved the alternate ending. If you haven't seen it, go buy the dvd. It shows that Scott has gone through a change. His second life when he said he is doing all of this for himself showing that he has self respect and has gone through maturity. Scott and Ramona were't right for each other. Ramona didn't deserve Scott, and she knows that at the end. Knives, even though she was a tad bit stalkerish, loved Scott, and worshipped the ground he walked on, which was basically Scotts feelings for Ramo

  • Hughezy it's because this movie wasn't marketed properly to get the general audiences in.

  • It was because people who saw the trailer for the film didn't know exactly what they were looking at. Plus, you have to remember that there are people out there that hand over their money to go see Jackass 3D, Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans and Superhero Movie. I for one, really enjoyed Scott Pilgrim (my new all-time favorite), watched it multiple times and bought the Blu-Ray. I do not have any desire to see the movies on the list I mentioned... even if they pop up on Spike or FX for free.

  • @espnfx ah come on, Jackass 3D is brilliant

  • @Hughezy I haven't seen it (and don't plan to), but I'd hardly call launching someone in a port-a-potty brilliant... Just my opinion.

  • @espnfx seriously, go see it. it's amazingly funny because they don't have to set up plots of characters, it's just non-stop gags. Plus, the 3D is absolutely amazing.

  • Its sad how people think this movie sucked, I enjoyed it very much, It was nice and refreshing break from all the action and heavy drama. Those who think it sucked just could not understand all the concepts and allusions that were interwoven in the movie.

  • @Generation941 I understood none of those and yet I thought it ruled

  • i have ZERO idea why this film bombed, thought it was one of the best most original films in years

  • @Hughezy I did also but you see all of the critics think it was to un-realistic.

  • @Hughezy easy people are stupid dumb idiots. next question?

  • @Hughezy Canadian bias? JK.

  • @Hughezy Well it wasnt great in the Box Office. But it actually got great reviews. I don't know why you thought it bombed

  • @FishSlapsaBaby because he wasn't a big money maker

  • @Hughezy That's wat I said. Well it also sucked because it wasnt scott pilgrims fault. On the week it came out they did the bed bug study and found bed bugs in theather seats. So alot of people were afraid to go to the movies

  • @Hughezy At comic con they had free showings trying to encourage everyone to get into it and obviously some of those people didn't have the interest to pay and watch it again. Also somewhere on some site it explains how poorly they managed to show this to the public or something like that but I agree this movie was great I still naturally pick the comic over the movie though.

  • @Hughezy I guess it's mostly because the target audience was

    1) People who read the graphic novel

    2) People who understand all the references

    3) People who love oldschool style fights with no matrix bullshit

I guess there's not many of them left...

  • @Hughezy The reason why the film bombed in the theaters in the U.S. was because it was pitted up against a much more anticipated title. The weekend it came out, I told a few of my class mates, "This weekend, it's not 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World'. It's 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The Expendables'." Honestly, I think that if they had released the film a week or two after "The Expendables", it would have been at number one for the opening weekend.

  • @codebreaker2001 it seems to me though that audiences' in America seem to have a problem with going to see more than 1 film per week!

    sometimes i got see 4 or 5!

  • @Hughezy I think it'll be like the "Mallrats" of today. While it bombed in theaters, it'll be a movie that will develop a strong cult following in the coming years.

  • @Hughezy Also, it didn't help that the audience that is targeted for would just torrented it instead of going to the movie theaters... I personally saw this movie 6 times just to make up for it ):

  • @Lightyagami121 SIX?! to be honest, i only seen it once because i was expecting it to be in cinemas for a lot longer.

although, i made a point of irrating about of my friends in the bar about it tonight "here, i seen just got that Scott Pilrgrim film as a present"

me "it's so cool at the end when it turns out that Scott Pilgrm & Tyler Durden are the same person"

    my friends don't get it

  • @Hughezy It bombed because it went up against The Expendables which interested a wider range of people.

  • @swordhunter12 i agree

if it opened like the following weekend or weekend before, it would have done much better in my opinion.

idk i prefer Scott over The Exendables any day

  • @Hughezy It did better on DVD then it did in theaters. :/

  • @Hughezy The reason it didn't do to well is because it was made for this generation and this generation doesn't pay for things so alot of people probably pirated it. However I am proud to say that i went to the cinema to see the film.

  • @Hughezy the story is not cheap enough (if you labeled it as a romantic comedy and put sex-symbol as the protagonist, the box office would skyrocket) and it doesn't please people who spend their best arguments denying their childhood or those who are willingly ignorant of anything related to video games so they would not be labeled as nerds.

Gotta thank all those who made this film possible.

  • @Lethkul That's true. The fact that this movie, which breaks all the usual limitations placed on mainstream movies with repetitive plot schemes and predictable endings, was put on the big screen seems like a miracle to me. Since this generation seems to be devoid of any desire for something different and creative.

I see this movie as a bright gem surrounded by the usual uniform decaying quality of other mainstream movies. You're right, because there wasn't enough sex in it, it didn't sell.

  • @Hughezy it didn't really bombed. It just wasn't a complete success.

  • @Hughezy Yeah, very stupid. I totally love this movie. I think the movie was a box office bomb because it was to crazy and nerdy for the people. whatever: great cast, great effects, great music, funny dialogues: perfect stuff.

  • @Hughezy Haters gonna Hate...

  • @Hughezy It bombed??

  • @Hughezy It because it's target audience is teenagers, who tend to be broke and jobless.

  • @TheHumanErrorVirus and bootleg.
