No dude it was no actor... Did you see the fear in Simons face. Hell I do not blame him. There are some sick assholes out there! Look what that asshole Mark Dave Chapman did!
the guy who rushed the stage was an actor, and it's was part of the show for dramatic effect, with the security at The Park that night, nobody got on that stage without clearance AND help
I was at this concert. Of course, we were too far back and to the side to see anything. We were way on the east side of the park, over in the trees. So we couldn't see and could just barely hear. I didn't know that someone had rushed the stage till I saw it tonight on YouTube, all these years later! Funny. But it was a wonderful concert and I remember it as a magical night.
@muttiplay: That guy wanted to talk to Paul Simon. Listen Closely at 3:30, and the random guy says "I gotta talk to him, I gotta talk to him, I gotta tal--."
I was at this concert, 29 years ago today, September 19,1981. It was a great show. How time flys. 29 years. seems like along time ago. But then I was 21, now I am 50.
I LOVE SIMON AND GARFUNKEL. brings me back to the core of my childhood.
good clip tomtom...paul keeps hold of his composure when the loony tries to jump him...the body language with simon (very much the boss) and artie suggest that they were a long way from the platonic love of 'bookends' and 'the only living boy in new york'...but they were a class act. a fusion of pop/folk/rock - great tunes, lovely memories of liberal america and swingin' england...
Was that Ickey Woods who clamped down on Paul's stalker? WHO DEY ! Long live King Pauly..and James Taylor..and Neil Young..and Jackson Browne..and Joni Mitchell..
From the first time I heard this one I found it a confusing song, because he speaks of the late great Johnny ace, and Lennon after his murder, and perhaps thats why the stage attacker jumped up, because he found it confusing also (and he was otherwise crazy), I dont know what it means, weird song.
It doesnt explain itself, and using John Lennons name then it should be clear, yet it is not.
Great concert, great song. Paul Simon at his very best as an American poet, singer, songwriter and performer. Feel myself to be "still crazy after all these years".... But what happened there on stage in 3:31?
@jesuschrist14 the notes in most of the song may sound off to you if you are not familiar with 7th chords and blues note but thats the way it is supposed to sound and it awsome.
The Illuminati want a NEW WORLD ORDER, which is one world wide govt. one world wide religion that worships satan. and one world wide currency 666.

Now, all we have to do is convince everyone except for you and me of this. I suppose they will all figure it out when they watch their families throats being cut.

fuck you old person...i probally wrote that at 4am after i actually did something with my life...and yes, drinking and fucking beats fucking my hand and drinking my cum
This was the summer after John Lennon was killed not far from where the concert was. I assume Johnny Ace is John Lennon. Maybe the guy was a Jphn Lennon fan and had a problem with this.
You don't know what you are saying. And you don't distinguish between paul simon's solo career, and Simon and Garfunkle, You might as well bring in Tom and Jerry while you're at it eh?
Sorry, at first I didn't like the song, but then I realized that it sounds better and better after few more listenings... Very simple, but also very melodic...
I love how, as the guy charges a moment after Paul sings about John Lennon, Paul hits the A string on his acoustic and the A note feeds back just as Lennon's guitar did in the intro of The Beatles "I Feel Fine".
You are right, so I don't know you doubt yourself. But other then that, this is a rare Paul Simon song, that we don't hear very much of the song. This is one of the few times he sang the song.
man i thought it was Art that got freaked out..hahaha... I always thought that guy rushed the stage because he was singing about John Lennon... of course I was young when I first saw this
I think the fan got mad he was talking about John Lennon, a lot of people have strong emotions about that day.
I kind of agree, Paul should not have wrote this song to be happy like when he says he heard John Lennon died, if you notice the song gets upbeat at that moment :(
It isn't happy at all when he talks about Lennon's death. The song turns upbeat in the 2nd stage; when he talks about the best times in history/life: The Beatles, The Stones, JFK etc etc..
And then it goes all sad again... and you can clearly see the pain in Simon's eyes- looks as if he's about to cry!
i dont know what the hell he is trying to say but it must have been very very creepy..specially singing this song. i wonder where that guy is at now and what he wanted...?
I agree with that. SO much better than the studio version. The crazy dude and the feedback from the guitars just make it better. Love the changes at the end.
Love the defiant stare at 3:52! Greatest live performance of a rock song ever, in my book. Does anyone have Simon's appearance on the Letterman show when he sang this song shortly after the Central Park concert? Would love to see it. Thanks, tomtommeme777, for posting the concert in sequence. I really enjoy it.
