Very harsh! Poor Alan...lay off, Fry! I was so busy laughing and concentrating on the next potential joke from him (as I bet he was telling them) that I wasn't really paying attention to Stephen.
I'm sure I've heard him use that insult somewhere else as well.
@LiekaQueenofDarkness: Thanx for that eplanation! I thought it must be something along those lines but since I'm not a native speaker I rather felt like Alan looks in that scene.
@Heidiguard I'm a 'native' speaker. Born and raised in England and I've never EVER heard that. I think people were too eager for an explanation and thumbed up that comment without requesting a source...
@pacmandem it is a native term, an old one, and it does bascially mean a silly/foolish person. It's more of an old slang term though. Type 'clot silly person' into google and the first few links should provide various definitions and proof.

After "What's red and silly?" I expected him to tell Alan, "You are."

Wha.. what? is the blood clot joke supposed to make sense? i think i need help with it.
Weirfan69 3 years ago
If someone is being silly/stupid, you'd go something along the lines of 'You clot!'!
It's a phrase.
A very english one.
In fact, a very Stephen Fry-ish one. ^^

alright, thanks :)

Stephen Fry and English seem to be synonyms in many contexts:)

@LiekaQueenofDarkness
I'd have to disagree with you.
Because a 'very Stephen Fry-ish phrase' is apparently "fucking pig-eyed sack of shit!"
