If you sit in front of the dog and put slight pressure into their arm after saying 'shake', most dogs will automatically do it. Grabbing their paw isn't always necessary.

if you use cheese or peanut butter, most dogs like those, but peanut butter isn't a good training treat. I also wouldn't give too many treats. You want easy, small treats your dog can eat quickly so they can do more repetitions and not sit for 30 seconds chewing. I would say go out and buy some dog treats specifically for this.
