people always saying "man they don't make movies like this anymore" and it's true. Now-a-days they try and get some silly script with twists and turns in a movie and they try to make that character grow on you, But in these movies they just good actors wikth a simple story and let the actors carry the movie...really can't do that with the talent now-a-days haha

Everything about this movie is me "Emma", and my mom is totally Aura""" and Flat is my husband. Only we don't have our own kids. only his own. I love this movie so much. Mom wasn't there at my wedding either. We have always been alike with this movie. I love it.
@aldushuxley No you're not old, but you're right, you just don't see films like this anymore. But you WILL see films of equal caliber on Turner Classic Movies channel. One of the best channels on cable or anywhere. This is such a beautiful tune - I love it!
As a young boy I lost my mother to cancer. As a young man I saw this movie and was very moved by the portrayals of life and loss. This music touched my heart then and it does still. Very moving and uplifting.
@duright08 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 and pulled through on sheer willpower I think, because I told my son that I would never leave him no matter what, long before I got sick, and I knew that it would break his heart to not have me as his Mom. I knew that he was too young to understand, and it would take forever for him to process it and not feel abandoned, and even after he understood, he may still have felt abandoned. So my heart truly goes out to you!
@jarileigh Small world. There was not much that could be done for women who suffered from uterine cancer in 1949. Faced with the prospect of a horrid operation and/or a slow death, she chose to end her life quickly via suicide. She was thirty-six and left a husband and three young sons.
I remember watching this as a child with my mom and it will always be in my heart for the great things the movie touched on. I like the whole movie, and who wouldn't? I loved the scence at the grocery store when they couldn't afford everything and had to put stuff back. I wish the world was a caring one as we all have our highs and lows and should be treated with dignity and respect! Just my thoughts. Take care.

This movie was sad but the parts I loved the most, were the interactions between Shirley MacLaine and Jack Nicholson. They were pretty humorous! :)
